Thought for the Day: June 21, 2017

Happy Wednesday and Summer Solstice Blessings!

Today we celebrate the first day of summer and the longest day of the year. Our ancient ancestors believed that today was time of great power and magick. They saw the sun as central to their yearly activities and rituals.  The Summer Solstice festivals were linked to fertility. The earth/goddess was alive and vibrant with new growth. Offerings were made and blessings obtained for healthy animals and crops that would provide a bountiful harvest. It was also time of high magick and tributes were offered to the faeries and other wee folk.  Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream is a fine example!

To all my pagan friends I wish you a bountiful season!
