Daily Good: One Square Inch of Silence
Gordon Hempton is an acoustic ecologist who has spent over thirty years taking recordings of steadily vanishing natural soundscapes. Quiet places on earth are in danger of disappearing, a message that Hempton brought home in 2010 by marking one square inch of quiet space in Washington’s Olympic National Park with a small red rock. His work was featured in a documentary entitled “Soundtracker” that same year.

MNN: Divers find stunning coral forests around Sicily’s underwater volcanoes
The Aeolian Islands north of Sicily are volcanic islands surrounded by waters filled with underwater volcanoes.
The UNESCO World Heritage Site is a popular tourist destination, but the waters around them haven’t received much attention from researchers. That was until Oceana, an international organization devoted to protecting and restoring the oceans of the world, launched a one-month expedition into these waters.

EarthSky News: Friday the 13th supermoon solar eclipse
The new moon supermoon on July 13, 2018, takes a bite out of the sun’s disk, to stage the first Friday the 13th solar eclipse since December 13, 1974. We won’t have another Friday the 13th solar eclipse until September 13, 2080. All three of these Friday the 13th solar eclipses – in 1974, 2018 and 2080 – are partial.

Patheos-Pagan: What Is A Witch? Defining Witchcraft For Both Past And Present Day
What is witchcraft? Is it separate from magic or a subsection of it? Are the terms “magic” and “witchcraft” interchangeable? If not (or not always), what makes them different?
First of all, a fast etymology lesson. Witchcraft itself comes from the Old English word wicce (wicca in the masculine form), which specifically refers to a “female magician, a sorceress”.

Inner Journey
OPEN TO THE MOMENT
“Why not concentrate on the now instead of hoping for better times in the future? Why not understand the now instead of forgetting it and hoping for the future? Isn’t the future just another trap?”
— Anthony de Mello
Soul exists only in this moment. Every moment, no matter what the conditions, offers opportunities to touch and experience life in a new way. Our egos, with their fears and desires, easily get trapped in the past and the future, but the power to change exists only in this moment.
We don’t need to know more or have more before we can live more deeply. We simply need to pay attention to what’s happening now. To open without judgment to the worlds around and within us.
“Nothing is worth more than this day. You cannot relive yesterday. Tomorrow is still beyond your reach.”
— Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

A Note from the Universe
You’re right too much self-discipline will discourage your playful, wandering imagination. It’ll snuff out the flames of inspiration and creativity. And it’ll weigh you down with routines and logic. It simply isn’t “spiritual.”
But, then, neither is too little.

Music
“Music comes first from my heart, and then goes upstairs to my head where I check it out.” -Roberta Flack (1993)
Writing music is a spiritual experience. It comes from within and bubbles forth. I know people who are musical geniuses, expressing music is their dharma. It’s an amazing experience when you’re in your dharma, and doing what you’re really supposed to be doing. It comes easily, effortlessly, with timeless awareness. And when you’re done you look at what you’ve produced with amazement, like someone else must have done it. Where did this come from? The same place everything else comes from – God.
