MNN: How to pick a good watermelon
Watermelon is the fruit that symbolizes summer the most to me. It conjures memories of childhood summers, when my friends and I would devour huge slices while the sweet juice ran down our chins. I would never buy a watermelon out of season because a tasteless one is heartbreaking.

EarthSky News: See the Dragon’s Eyes on June evenings
Tonight, find the Dragon’s Eyes. For years, I’ve glanced up in the north at this time of year and spied the two stars marked on today’s chart, Rastaban and Eltanin in the constellation Draco. They’re noticeable because they’re relatively bright and near each other

Inner Journey:
TAKE A BREAK!
“A good rest is half the work.”
— Yugoslav Proverb
Strong work ethic? You can still justify taking a break. In fact, we NEED to take breaks — regularly and frequently. Why? WE WORK MORE EFFECTIVELY WHEN WE DON’T WORK SO MUCH.
Rest periods and vacations break our work routines. They help SHIFT OUR THINKING from its habitual, stuck patterns. They create the SPACE FOR ENERGY AND CREATIVITY to flow. They give us TIME FOR REFLECTION, so we can step back and look at what’s happening in our lives with greater detachment. We become more sensitive and aware.
And finally, we are stronger when we BALANCE DOING with BEING. All work and no play throws our life out of balance and endangers our health. Our bodies and minds need sufficient rest for recuperation. This is critically important with the level of stress in our lives these days.
“The time to relax is when you don’t have time for it.”
— Sidney J. Harris
“I still need more healthy rest in order to work at my best. My health is the main capital I have and I want to administer it intelligently.”
— Ernest Hemingway

Today’s Recipe: What to drink this weekend: Watermelon Ginger Fizz
Happy Friday afternoon! I played around with some watermelon and vodka to create today’s summery cocktail. I made two versions of it – one with simple syrup and one with honeysuckle syrup. There wasn’t a discernable difference between the two because it’s the watermelon flavor that’s most prominent in this drink. The two sweeteners are interchangeable in this drink.

Faith
“Faith makes the discords of the present the harmonies of the future.” -Robert Collyer (1823-1912) American Unitarian clergy
Just as we have faith that the sun is behind the clouds on a rainy day, we can have faith that whatever problems seems to be presenting themselves at the moment will be resolved. And they will. When we don’t know what to do – we can always have faith.
