In America, it feels like there are coffee shops on every city corner, and for good reason: Each morning over 200 million people in the United States wake up and drink a cup of coffee, with the average American enjoying not one but three cups of joe a day and spending more than $1,000 on them every year.

Daily Good: Pearl Fryer’s Unusual Legacy

Just a mile from Interstate 20 near the heart of South Carolina there is a living topiary art sculpture garden created by Pearl Fryar. The topiary that resides here along with Fryer and his family is extraordinary and still challenges the minds of horticulture experts who claim that these plants aren’t supposed to be able to look like they do.

The mission of the Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden, Inc. is to “support and preserve the artistic and horticultural legacy of Pearl Fryar, to encourage public appreciation of the garden, and to provide opportunities for artistic and educational enrichment and enjoyment.”

Elephant Journal: A Gentle Reminder for the Sensitive Souls who feel lost in Today’s World.

We can be wise and unsure.
We can be messy and hopeful.

We can be kind and angry, aware and unsure, depleted and determined.
With tattered edges and the bare, aching soles of our well-traveled feet, we can walk through fire on hot, shattered glass.

MNN: Birth of sun bear cub is a first for the U.K.

Two sun bears once snatched by poachers in Cambodia just had their first cub at the Chester Zoo. It’s the first sun bear born in the United Kingdom.

The cub’s parents — mother Milli and father Toni — were taken from the wild when they were young by illegal wildlife traders who killed their mothers and kept them as pets.

If you are familiar with the scent of thyme, I am sure you can imagine what it must have been like on a summer evening to be sitting on a lawn of thyme, soaking up the evening sun and absorbing that wonderful characteristic herbal aroma. Well, why just imagine it? Its not a major project to plant your own thyme lawn, and once it’s done you’ll never tire of the pleasure it will give you during the summer months.

Inner Journey:

WHAT IS YOUR BODY TELLING YOU?

“There are times when we may fool ourselves. There are times when we can fool others. But we can never fool our body. It is the most sensitive barometer of our inner world.”
— Sherrill Sellman

“Instead of frittering away your vibrancy with worry or distraction, realize your mind and body are inextricably united. What calms and tones up one, soothes and improves the other.”
— Marsha Sinetar

“When you are saying that you are happy and you are not, there will be a disturbance in your breathing. Your breathing cannot be natural. It is impossible.”
— Osho

“Your body is the ground and metaphor of your life, the expression of your existence. It is your Bible, your encyclopedia, your life story. Everything that happens to you is stored and reflected in your body. In the marriage of flesh and spirit divorce is impossible.”
— Gabrielle Roth

“If you don’t take care of your body, where will you live?”

Music

“Music has charms to soothe a savage breast,
To soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak.” -William Congreve (1670-1729)

No, that’s not a typo. We’ve all heard it as “savage beast” but it really was said “savage breast.” And I think it is more effective that way. A savage breast says to me, “an angry heart,” and I can see that as being hard and cold. There is a lot of power there, but Congreve uses the word “charms” instead. Interesting… the power of music comes not from sheer strength but from its charms, from its subtle, gentle effect on our soul.”
