With thorns and roses in it,
Flutters a thing of light,

MBG: The Latest On Why Certain Sounds Are Physically & Emotionally Healing

It’s a Wednesday evening, and I’m lying in a dark room in Woom’s meditation studio in downtown Manhattan, packed like a sardine next to dozens of other people who also gathered to listen to Alexandre Tannous, a legend in the field of sound healing, work through his armory of singing bowls, chimes, and gongs.

Daily Good: My Small Moment of Mending Brokenness

“I used to believe that I was a very accepting person. But a few weeks ago, something happened at my workplace that made me recognize my own brokenness — it helped me see the disconnect between my values, and how I respond in certain moments. I work at the front desk of a hotel. On multiple occasions over the past couple of weeks, a sex-worker reserved a room on our property. Sitting at the front desk I’d see her interacting with people in the corridor, I’d see her check-in and check-out. And I would have this incredibly palpable feeling of disgust come up whenever she walked by…But there was another side of me which was like, “Wait a minute! At the end of the day, she’s a human being with a soul and inside of her is the beauty that Mother Earth puts in each and every one of us. So why am I judging her?” What follows is a simple yet profound story of healing. { read more }

Be The Change

Experiment with regarding people ‘in the light of what they suffer’ this week. Notice whether this practice catalyzes any shifts within you.

Elephant Journal: When I realized “Letting Go” wasn’t helpful & what I do Instead.

It’s a hard thing to go through periods of life that are confronting and uncertain.
Often, it’s in these moments that we retreat and isolate—we don’t have the energy to catch up with our loved ones or the desire to burden others with our suffering. We feel vulnerable, so we suffer alone, in silence.

Want to know where a whale has been on its long-distance oceanic travels? Try listening to its songs, say scientists from the University of St. Andrews. Inner Journey:

“Your fears are not walls, but hurdles. Courage is not the absence of fear, but the conquering of it.”
— Dan Millman

How do we conquer fear? With action. Millman says that action is the ONLY way to move through fear.

Fear aims to stop us in our tracks. When we step forward anyway, our anxiety eases. We begin to pay attention to what’s actually going on instead of being trapped in fearful speculation. When we’ve done it once, we can do it again. And again. And again.

“Many of our fears are tissue-paper-thin, and a single courageous step would carry us clear through them.”
— Brendan Francis

Daily Wisdom
September 5, 2019

“No man can reveal to you aught but that which already lies half asleep in the dawning of your knowledge. The teacher who walks in the shadow of the temple, among his followers, gives not of his wisdom but rather of his faith and his lovingness. If he is indeed wise he does not bid you enter the house of his wisdom, but rather leads you to the threshold of your own mind.”

-Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931)

All of the knowledge and wisdom of the world is available to us at all times. We have only to tap into it to make use of it. The truth is that we don’t need anyone to tell us anything! But… until we can fully make use of our gifts, we could use someone to show us the way. Life is hard enough trying to make it on our own. Thanks goodness that we have teachers to guide us and give us some direction.

-Lissa Coffey

Daily Tarot: Death

There’s a sense of security in what is old, and with something new coming into your life it’s natural to be a bit afraid. Give this new situation a chance and give yourself time to get comfortable with the new conditions. It could be as simple as getting your hair cut or changing your glasses frames, but it could be much bigger than that.
