Daily Good: Four Winged Poems

The very idea of a bird is a symbol and a suggestion to the poet.

  • John Burroughs –

Four Winged Poems

“This time of year, the birds catch my attention and hold it. The robins are back, or maybe they’re just bolder. I see them most in this early spring season, when the worms are warming up out of the soil. The goldfinches are muted still, their diets not yet offering the delights that turn their plumage bright. And the mourning doves are crying all day long…I love the way that watching them helps slow me down. This time of year, life can start to seem crowded and hectic. The school term is almost over, though there is still much work to complete. Longer days seem to come with more demands. I am grateful, then, for the birds.” Orion’s poetry editor Camille T. Dungy shares a selection of her favorite bird poems here. { read more }

“We accept many notions because they seem to be the logical answers to our questions. But have we asked the right questions?”
— Harold L. Klawans

Sometimes we ask questions for which we really don’t want the answer! Nonetheless, when we ask a question, our subconscious minds will get to work to answer us.

Here are some examples of questions we want to avoid:

What’s wrong with me?
How long could this take?
What could go wrong?
How much trouble could it be?
How hard could it be?
Asking questions can be empowering – as long as they’re smart questions!

“The uncreative mind can spot wrong answers, but it takes a very creative mind to spot wrong questions.”
— Anthony Jay

A Note from the Universe

The answer to every question beginning with “Why,” begins with “Because, I love you.”

Actually, I love you anyway –

Daily Wisdom
April 15, 2021

“Today the real test of power is not capacity to make war but capacity to prevent it.”

-Anne O’Hare McCormick (1882?-1954)

This is the same philosophy that Gandhi expressed, and that the Dalai Lama maintains every day. This quiet strength that speaks so loudly. The real power of peace. It takes a spiritual and emotional maturity to put down our toys, set aside our egos, and come to a level of understanding that makes things right, and good, for everyone.

-Lissa Coffey

Daily Tarot: The High Priestess

Even if it’s a busy day at work or with loved ones, it may still be an introspective kind of day when you need to frequently take a quiet moment to reflect. Be organized and perform your tasks well, but also find those quiet instances when you can make sense of your feelings and impressions. You can get a great deal done today, and feel inwardly satisfied about it.
