In cold and dark December,
Families around the world
All gather to remember,
With presents and with parties,
With feasting and with fun,
Customs and traditions
for people old and young.”
- Helen H. Moore

ThoughtCo: Yule Rituals
Yule, the winter solstice, is a time of great symbolism and power. It marks the return of the sun, when the days finally begin to get a little longer. It’s also a time to celebrate with family and friends, and share the spirit of giving during the holidays.

Elephant Journal: A Guided Meditation to keep us Grounded in our Needs this Holiday Season.
While remembering our needs can be difficult during the holiday season, it can also be what helps us stay centered.
Buying gifts, preparing food, and even coming together with family during the Christmas season often brings up feelings of stress and overwhelm. As we try to please everyone around us, it’s easy to forget about what matters to us.
Treehugger: Explore Dinosaur Fossils, Wildflowers, and Dark Skies at Big Bend National Park
Known as one of the most remote parks in the lower 48 states, Big Bend National Park is bordered by the famed Rio Grande River—which also serves as an international border between the United States and Mexico. In fact, Big Bend National Park gets its name from the large bend in the river that curves along the boundary of the park, covering a distance of 118 miles.
EarthSky News: Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus December 6 to December 9
New moon came at 07:43 UTC on December 4, 2021. By the evening of December 6, the young waxing crescent is back in the evening sky. From that evening through at least the evening of December 9, you can see spectacularly beautiful scenes in the sky after sunset, as the moon sweeps up away from the sun in our sky, passing first Venus, then Saturn, then Jupiter. Two of these (Venus and Jupiter) are the brightest planets. They’ll be incredibly noticeable with the moon!
Patheos-Pagan: Elemental Witchcraft for Reconciling Divine Paradox
My forthcoming book, Elemental Witchcraft, is a magickal map to balance and wholeness as a five-fold being here on planet earth. I call that balancing journey the Pentacle Path.

“The first and worst of all frauds is to cheat one’s self.”
— Phillip James Bailey
Are you hiding in some way from your own inner light?
I wouldn’t dream of stealing things but I do steal from my own potential. I can be a master at rationalizing, at justifying why it’s not the right time to do something challenging. My arguments seem valid but deep down, I know they’re excuses.
“The longer the excuse, the less likely it’s the truth.”
— Robert Half
“When we know deep down that we’re acting with integrity despite impulses to do otherwise, we feel gates of higher energy and inspiration open inside of us.”
— Dan Millman
A Note from the Universe
To make hard tasks easy, mountains molehills, and challenges simple, you can opt for one of two paths. You can be still, wait for guidance, and expect spontaneous enlightenment.
Or you can just roll up your sleeves and get busy doing what you can, with what you’ve got, from where you are.
May I suggest the latter? It’s usually much faster. And it makes you a lightning rod for divine guidance and spontaneous enlightenment.

“The past with its pleasures, its rewards, its foolishness, its punishments, is there for each of us forever, and it should be.”
During the holiday season it’s easy to wax nostalgic. We tend to remember holidays because we take photos and keep them in albums. We get together with friends and family and create memories. We remember because during that time we are in the moment, and enjoying ourselves, so the feelings remain long after the time is past.
