Her name translates to “Lady,” and she is known by many other titles, including Horn (“Flax”), Syr (“Sow”), and Mardoll (closely defined as “Sea-Bright”).

By Patti Wigington
Updated on June 25, 2019

The acorn is a symbol of strength and power. In the fall, these tiny yet hardy little nuggets drop from the oak trees to land on the ground. Most will be eaten by passing wildlife, but a few will survive to form a new tree in the spring.

Patheos-Pagan: Short Notes on the Jinn, Demons, and the Mu’allaqat

I’ve been reading about the jinn these days, and while it’s true that I haven’t paid much attention to this blog for a long time, the longest since I started it, I haven’t entirely forgotten about it. I recently started one of the books I have at hand, and have been discovering some interesting things about the Fire Spirits that I haven’t thought about before.

Pagan Playlist: If I Had A Heart (Norse Version) – Fever Ray/Vikings

Inner Journey:

“What a distressing contrast there is between the radiant intelligence of the child and the feeble mentality of the average adult.”
— Sigmund Freud

Why is this so?

Young children possess what Zen calls ‘beginner’s mind.’ They are awed and fascinated with the wonder of the world, open to discovering and experiencing new things. Anything is possible. Life is a great adventure.

For almost all of us, the systems that ‘educate’ us to be adults stifle our natural joy and curiosity. We lose touch with our innate appreciation of life. We forget how to dream.

The blessing is that with attention, patience and love, we can reawaken our sense of wonder. We can again dance with life.

“The mind WILL be free, or it will be dead.”
— Grace Llewellyn

A Note from the Universe

Being spiritual means a good many things and most of them are misunderstood by a good many people. So, to clarify, here’s how I see “it” and you:

Being spiritual means seeing yourself as divine, not just of the divine; a creator, not just the created. You needn’t be saved, forgiven, or fixed. You’ve already changed the world, added to its brilliance, and done enough.

You’re in time and space today, because in some long-forgotten time, you already earned your wings.

From a longtime super-fan,

The Universe

Daily Wisdom
September 14, 2022

“How poor are they that have not patience!

What wound did ever heal but by degrees?”

-Shakespeare, Othello

Sometimes we need to just get out of our own way and let nature do its thing. The seasons know how to change. It does no good to try to “hurry things up” so we can fit in one more vacation or whatever! So many things in this world just take care of themselves. There is an organizing power to the universe. Shouldn’t we allow this power to work for us? All we have to do is be patient. Everything will work out the way that it is supposed to.

-Lissa Coffey

Daily Tarot: Temperance

See through a false impression or some illusion that has been projected to throw you off course or to misjudge someone. Done innocently or deliberately, you can dispel that false impression and work your way right through it. You could even do this without challenging or confronting anyone directly, thus saving yourself the trauma of a showdown. Go slow when making any decisions that affect others
