Over the land freckled with snow half-thawed
The speculating rooks at their nests cawed
And saw from elm-tops, delicate as flowers of grass,
What we below could not see, Winter pass.
-Edward Thomas, “Thaw” (1878-1917)

ThoughtCo: Cerridwen: Keeper of the Cauldron

The Crone of Wisdom
In Welsh legend, Cerridwen represents the crone, which is the darker aspect of the goddess. She has powers of prophecy, and is the keeper of the cauldron of knowledge and inspiration in the Underworld. As typical of Celtic goddesses, she has two children: daughter Crearwy is fair and light, but son Afagddu (also called Morfran) is dark, ugly and malevolent

Daily Good: Who Gets to Cry?

Climate change is destroying many places we love points out Trebbe Johnson, and while some of us turn away from admitting this, others are filled with sorrow. But here’s what’s most difficult: “Many of us are simply afraid that if we allow ourselves to wade, even for a moment, into the feelings of sadness for the living world that lap at the edge of our consciousness, we will find ourselves pulled so ruthlessly into grief and despair that we will never emerge.” So how to grieve wisely and honestly?

Elephant Journal: The Ritualization of Everyday Activities.

A few years ago, I decided to make a change in how I do things—and what an amazing impact it had on my life.
I lose sight of it sometimes and forget to do this practice, but every time I go back I wonder why I ever stopped. When I don’t practice it, my life gets hectic and messy; when I do practice it in everything I do, my life is filled with tranquility, and my home is impeccable

MNN: 11 examples of the kindness of strangers
It can be easy to forget how much good regular people do every day.

Some days, it can feel like the world is falling apart. Other days, decent humans step up and make it better.
When I was a little girl traveling with my grandma, we once got stuck in a Florida airport due to a storm. Hotels were already booked, and my grandma was preparing me to sleep near our gate

EarthSky News: Star-hop to the Coma star cluster

Our chart at the top of this post shows the constellation Leo the Lion highest up for the night at roughly 9 to 10 p.m. local time (10 to 11 p.m. local daylight saving time). That’s the time on your clock no matter where you are on the globe.
Long ago, the Coma star cluster represented the Lion’s tufted tail. It is a beautiful cluster, well worth taking the time to pick out in the night sky

Ancient Origins: 3,900-Year-Old Lost Inscriptions Surface at the Ancient Egyptian Amethyst Mines

Inner Journey:

“It would be glorious to see mankind at leisure for once. It is nothing but work, work, work.”
— Henry David Thoreau

Is relaxation possible only when we’re not working? No. With awareness and practice, we can be relaxed no matter what we are doing. In fact, when we work in a relaxed state, our productivity increases as our effort decreases.

For true relaxation, we need to connect with our bodies — to consciously and intentionally become aware of tension and release it.

“Anxiety breaks a man’s backbone.”
— Hebrew proverb

“Don’t hurry, don’t worry. You’re only here for a short visit. So be sure to stop and smell the flowers.”
— Walter Hagen

“Originality consists not only in doing things differently, but also in ‘doing things better.'”

-Edward C. Stedman (1833-1908)

I think that this is what inventors have in mind when they come up with all these original concepts. It’s all about progress, growth, building on what has been done before and expanding on what we have learned. And isn’t life like that, too? With human relationships, and our own spiritual growth, we want to “do things better” and improve ourselves and our circumstances. We read books, and take advice, but how we apply it is individual and original to ourselves.
