Ah in the thunder air
how still the trees are!
And the lime-tree, lovely and tall, every leaf silent
hardly looses even a last breath of perfume.

When viewed outside of a religious context, spirituality connects us with a dimension of life that is greater than ourselves.

Daily Good: The Happiness Multiplier Effect

Happiness is something we all strive for, yet can be difficult to define. defines happiness as “good fortune, pleasure, contentment, or joy.” And in fact many people associate having more money with being happier. However, studies released in 2008 and 2010 show that there is a threshold for which money can bring happiness. Beyond being pulled out of poverty to a comfortable income, the effect of money on happiness is negligible. In fact the one thing that was found to consistently produce, increase, and spread happiness, was to give to others. To find out more about how sharing the wealth means sharing the happiness, check out this infographic from YES! Magazine. { read more }

Be The Change

Share the wealth. Whether it’s telling a fun joke that will make others laugh, buying coffee for a friend, or volunteering some time with a local organization. Not only will you be giving to others, but you’ll be increasing your own happiness too!

Tetraktys:  Mother Nature and Spirituality – A Few Thoughts on the Concept of “Mother Nature”

Since the 60s, our views on nature and the natural world have considerably changed. If, in the 19th century, nature was seen as the receptacle of human activities, the importance of the natural world was put to light in the latter half of the 20th century. As our scientific views of nature changed, so did our spiritual views, and thus the concept of “Mother Nature”.

MNN: How to invite amphibians to your garden

You can help save amphibians in your neighborhood by creating an appealing backyard oasis for them.

Some 10 years after they began collecting large rocks to give a natural look to an artificial stream that cascades into a pond in front of their home, Constance and Michael Johns have almost finished their long-planned project.

EarthSky News: Moon, Saturn, Mars August 20 to 22

As darkness falls these next several evenings – August 20 to 22, 2018 – watch for the waxing gibbous moon to move by the planet Saturn and toward the red planet Mars. The moon travels about 1/2 degree (its own angular diameter) eastward per hour relative to the backdrop stars and planets of the zodiac. Keep in mind that the moon appears larger on the sky chart than it does in the real sky.

Patheos-Pagan: Boundaries Are Your Personal Magic Circle: Ways to Know and Strengthen Them

We can get so easily sucked dry by energy vampires or give up too much of our personal power when our boundaries aren’t firm. These energetic barriers between us and everyone else are our own personal magic circle. Understanding them and the consequences for when they are violated are important skills to develop as a witch.

Inner Journey:

“You never will be the person you can be if pressure, tension and discipline are taken out of your life.”
— James G. Bilkey

We need tension in our lives. It’s the force of personal evolution — it sparks creativity and higher consciousness. If we’re not comfortable with a situation, we try to improve it, right?

Tension arises through our experience of opposites. These opposites fight each other as each one struggles for dominance. Tension is transformed when two opposite dimensions of reality are brought together inbalance and in wholeness.

Know that tension is an integral part of growth. Instead of avoiding or resisting tension when it arises, identify the opposing forces at play. Make space for each of them to be there together and the tensionwill transform.

We encounter tensions between positives and negatives, mind and body, self and environment, self and others, and personality and soul – the dualities in our lives.

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”
— Neale Donald Walsch

Daily Wisdom
August 20, 2018

“Patience is necessary, and one cannot reap immediately where one has sown.”

-Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855)

It is easy to understand that patience is important, and even necessary – but why is being patient such a hard thing to do?! It seems so contradictory to what we have learned about taking action… and yet, it is equally as essential. There is a time when we must sit back and do nothing, when we must allow nature to take its course and not impose our human conditions and expectations upon it. Being patient involves having faith, that inner knowingness that all is as it is because it is.

-Lissa Coffey
