I celebrate myself, and sing myself,
And what I assume you shall assume,
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.
I loafe and invite my soul,
I lean and loafe at my ease observing a spear of summer grass.
-Walt Whitman (1819-92)

Daily Good: Speechless

“One morning I woke up with no voice, just a faint, breathy whisper. This would be upsetting anytime, but on this particular day it felt as if I were in a fairy tale. In a matter of hours, I was supposed to tell a story and teach mindfulness meditation at the Rubin Museum of Art in Manhattan. And I couldn’t make a sound.” Parabola’s Tracy Cochran shares more in this thought-provoking essay on the possibilities that awaken when we relinquish our hold on the familiar and surrender to the unknown. { read more }

Inner Journey:

“There is a thought in your mind right now. The longer you hold on to it, the more you dwell upon it, the more life you give to that thought. Give it enough life, and it will become real. So make sure the thought is indeeda great one.”
— Ralph Marston

Most of our self-talk comes unconsciously from our subconscious. Yet every thought that exists in our subconscious got there through a conscious decision to accept that thought.

We need to become conscious of our self-talk so we can at will choose to replace negative beliefs with positive ones. We have the power to choose an identity we love, but we need to do the work. The process of changing our subconscious beliefs requires awareness, diligence, consistency and repetition.

“Man is made or unmade by himself. In the armory of thought he forges the weapons by which he destroys himself. He also fashions the tools with which he builds for himself heavenly mansions of joy and strength and peace.”
— James Allen

“I go by instinct… I don’t worry about experience.”

-Barbra Streisand

This is such a powerful concept. Look at how this relates to the work community. One resume may be loaded with experience, while another has just the bare bones. Is that more important than the impression the job candidate makes in the interview? When we meet someone face to face we get a “feel” for how we can relate to that person, how we would like to be around that person every day in the work environment. These are the kinds of things that can’t be put down on paper, we have to use our instincts.

-Lissa Coffey

Daily Tarot: Wheel of Fortune

You may have made careful plans or scheduled everything to perfection, but there are too many variables today to allow most of your plans to play out. Things may come up, one after another, and make this a scattered day. This is temporary and probably will have little impact on tomorrow, so just flow with it best you can and don’t let the instability bother you.
