If you think in terms of a year, plant a seed; if in terms of ten years, plant trees; if in terms of 100 years, teach the people.

ThoughtCo: Croning Ceremony to Celebrate Women’s Wisdom

For a long time, to be called a crone was an insult. The very word implied a wrinkled, hunchbacked old woman, unwanted and unloved. Women who had reached an advanced age were dismissed as useless hags, and there was nothing to celebrate about it at all. Fortunately, times are changing, and more and more women are welcoming this aspect of their life.

Daily Good: The Friendship Bench

Globally, more than 300 million people suffer from depression, according to the World Health Organization. Depression is the world’s leading cause of disability and it contributes to 800,000 suicides per year, the majority of which occur in developing countries. Yet those suffering from depression have few options due to a dearth of mental health professionals. In brainstorming how to tackle this problem, Dixon Chibanda, director of the African Mental Health Research Initiative, arrived at an unlikely solution. Since 2006, Chibanda and his team have trained over 400 grandmothers in evidence-based talk therapy, which they deliver for free in more than 70 communities in Zimbabwe. The method has been empirically vetted and has been expanded to countries beyond, including the US. { read more }

Be The Change

Think of a nagging problem you face in your life or community where you lack access to the needed solution. Literally “throw up you hands” and give up trying to get what’s not available. Now look around you. What can you do with what you have?

Elephant Journal: Want a Metaphysical Reset for the End of the Year? Do a September Home Detox.

I’ve always felt that September has an energy about it that is similar to January.
We’re moving into the closing months of the year, and the signs around us in nature are all about endings (to make way for new beginnings). Maybe it’s a resistance to what is—such a human quality—

MNN: What to see in the night sky in September

After a summer that featured Tesla’s spaceman completing a full orbit around the sun, a muted Perseid meteor shower in August, and the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission, it’s been an eventful time in the galaxy we call home. What could September possibly offer for an encore? Plenty, it turns out.

Patheos-Pagan: Druid in the City: Offerings Without Spending

It is a tradition in ADF to make offerings. We give these offerings in a practice of hospitality. There is a re-constructed Indo-European phrase, *ghosti, that talks about the duties between guest and host. In this relationship, we give gifts to the gods and spirits so that they may provide us with gifts in return.

Inner Journey:

“The future, higher evolution will belong to those who live in joy, who share joy, and who spread joy.”
— Torkom Saraydarian

Joy, as the energy of love, is the highest vibration on this planet. Everything in the universe is energy; it can be measured and reduced to vibrational frequencies. It’s a universal law that as we think and feel we vibrate, and as we vibrate we attract. When we are in the high joy vibration, we attract what is for our greater good.

The Ancient Egyptians saw Joy as a sacred responsibility. They believed that upon their death, the God Osiris would ask them two questions: “Did you bring Joy?” and “Did you find Joy?” Those who answered ‘yes’ could continue their journey into the afterlife.

For at least the next week or two, ask yourself these two questions each and every day:
•Did I bring joy?
•Did I find joy?

“Man loves because he is Love. He seeks Joy, for he is Joy. He thirsts for God for he is composed of God and he cannot exist without Him.”
— Sathya Sai Baba

A Note from the Universe

Several upsides to having 7 billion people share the planet with you, is that you then have 7 billion teachers, 7 billion reasons to fall in love, and 7 billion more versions of yourself.

Aren’t they all amazing?

Daily Wisdom
September 2, 2019

“It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.”

-Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

We can all look back and remember some of our most favorite teachers over the years. And chances are, what made them so memorable to us is not the subjects that they taught, as much as the way they taught. I still remember Dr. Herriot in 10th grade math. She knew I was slacking off and she challenged me to do better. I was so surprised that someone actually called me on it, and decided to give it a shot. Dr. Herriot handed the next test back to me with a big smile on her face – I got an A. It felt great for me to see that grade, and that smile! She helped me to understand that when I put my mind and my efforts into something, I can achieve. That’s a good teacher.

Daily Tarot: The Moon

You may be dwelling on your weakness or discomfort, and those things may be real enough, but take heart and know that these things are also temporary and are not going to last much longer. You underestimate or overlook your great powers of recovery and self-healing. You have too much love of life to be kept down for long. Give yourself a break and relax a bit.
