Expectations “To wish to act like angels while we are still in this world is nothing but folly.”
-Saint Teresa of Avila
We put such expectations on ourselves! And look at the expectations we put on our children, our parents, and all the people in our lives. We are human. We are here to learn. We are going to make mistakes, it’s all part of the process. When we relax our expectations and just go with the flow – approach our challenges as lessons rather than failures – then our experiences in life are more meaningful.

A Yuletide Toast
See the Yule log draped with holly, glossy green and scarlet hued;
Adorned with ribbons and with gifts that Mother Nature grew.
Shaped by hands both large and small, a labor of love and joy;
To celebrate the Suns rebirth and a brand new season to enjoy.
So gather round and raise a cup to toast both log and coming light;
We’ll keep our vigil by the fire on this the longest night.

“The Holly King, represents the Death aspect of the God at this time of year; and the Oak King, represents the opposite aspect of Rebirth (these roles are reversed at Midsummer). This can be likened to the Divine Child’s birth. The myth of the Holly King/Oak King probably originated from the Druids to whom these two trees were highly sacred. The Oak King (God of the Waxing Year) kills the Holly King (God of the Waning Year) at Yule (the Winter Solstice). The Oak King then reigns supreme until Litha (the Summer Solstice) when the two battle again, this time with the Holly King victorious. Examples of the Holly King’s image can be seen in our modern Santa Claus.”

The Winter Solstice has been a time of magic for millennia. Celebrated around the globe, the Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year and the longest night. The Winter Solstice represents rebirth, a time of reflection, a time of celebrations, and rituals. For centuries, and still to this day, the celebration of Yule occurs during the Winter Solstice. Yule began with the Germanic people and celebrates the rebirth of the sun and welcomes the season of winter. The Winter Solstice marks the changes of seasons and is a perfect time to cleanse and smudge your spaces.

This year has facilitated a powerful inner transformation. With so many difficult and challenging experiences we have been forced to face, process, release and realign our entire being.
The days grow shorter and the longest night of the year spreads its cloak of stars across the land. Known by many names including the Winter Solstice, Yule….
While it may be mostly Pagans who celebrate the Yule holiday today, nearly all cultures and faiths have held some sort of winter solstice celebration or festival. Because of the theme of endless birth, life, death, and rebirth, the time of the solstice is often associated with deity and other legendary figures.

Racing through life is very stressful. If we stay in high gear too long, we lose our ability to shift down. And when we’re stressed, we can’t access happiness, appreciation, fun, compassion, generosity, awareness of beauty and other wonderful qualities. High stress also triggers negative emotions like frustration, impatience, anger and fear.
Life has so much to offer if we will slow down and truly experience it. We must always remember that we are the ones in control of the accelerator. We CAN choose to brake.

“It is the mind that makes one wise or ignorant, bound or emancipated.” — Sri Ramakrishna
Zen distinguishes big mind from small mind. Big mind identifies with its process, is impersonal and participates universally. Big mind is unlimited possibilities, deeper understanding, forgiveness, acceptance, insight, connectedness, attention.
Small mind is self centred and focuses only on itself. It is compulsive, limited, reactive and mechanical. Small mind feeds on itself — fear reacts to fear, judgment reacts to judgment, anger sparks more anger.
Always seek higher perspectives and you will in time find freedom.

Daily Tarot: The Fool
You may have the best of intentions today but it won’t be easy to stick to any of them. There’s a lot of randomness in the air and you won’t have very much control over anything. Don’t let this lull you into becoming thoughtless or not caring about what you’re doing. Do what you can and save some energy for tomorrow when things might be smoother

Spirit Library: Step out of the Old (a message from Kate Spreckley)
This is a time filled with massive change as individually and collectively we expand into an uncertain future. The energy is complex as it is moving to both dissolve and rebuild the energetic framework of our world.
In Greek mythology and legend, Poseidon is the god of the sea. However, his domain includes some aspects of the land as well, and in fact he is known as “earth-shaker” in many stories, because of his penchant for causing earthquakes

I truly never realized the joy I received from the simple ritual of going out for a cup of coffee until I couldn’t anymore!
I know I’m not alone in this. In some capacity, we’re all grieving the loss of our daily routines.

How is a problem in your life really an opportunity?
Problems invite us to go inside to recognize a bigger picture of ourselves and of life. This bigger picture brings meaning to what is unfolding.
When you feel trapped in a problem, see if you can shift your perspective. Ask yourself, “What am I being invited to learn from this situation?” The answer will always revolve around a quality or value, like gratitude, freedom, compassion, love, will, humour or acceptance. The answer will also always promote union rather than separation.
As soon as we find the meaning in our challenge, our resistance to it melts away. Often, awareness of the lesson is all that is needed to resolve the problem. If not, the awareness brings us courage and ways to work through it.

A Note from the Universe
It’s not really a matter of feeling worthy of love, friends, health, or wealth. Or of appreciating what you already have. Or even of learning to love yourself. These don’t have to come first. You don’t have to wear a halo to manifest the changes you want.
It’s simply a matter of understanding that if you do your part: visualize, prepare the way, and act “as if,” without looking over your shoulder for quick results, what you want must be added unto you… as will the feelings of worthiness, appreciation and loving your most lovable self.
“This is my go-to tomato soup recipe. It’s so easy and delicious. It’s easily made vegan (if you use margarine instead of butter or 2 tablespoons of olive oil), ready in 30 minutes, and I give leftovers to my kids for lunch. If you like, you can add cream, but my family likes it the way it is. I usually serve it with rosemary bread for dunking.”

_________________________ Daily Wisdom May 13, 2020 Consistency
“At the time of writing I never think of what I have said before. My aim is not to be consistent with my previous statements on a given question, but to be consistent with truth as it may present itself to me at the given moment. The result has been that I have grown from truth to truth.”
-Mohandas K. Gandhi (1869-1948)
The important thing to remember is that we are all doing the best we can with where we are and what we know so far. As time goes on, we learn more, and that might cause us to think differently. That is not to say that we were “wrong” before just because we have a different opinion now – but that we can make a more informed choice because of the experiences we have had in our lives. Things look different when they are viewed from a higher vantage point.
