ThoughtCo: Cernunnos – Wild God of the Forest
Cernunnos is a horned god found in Celtic mythology. He is connected with male animals, particularly the stag in rut, and this has led him to be associated with fertility and vegetation. Depictions of Cernunnos are found in many parts of the British Isles and western Europe. He is often portrayed with a beard and wild, shaggy hair–he is, after all, the lord of the forest

Daily Good: The Atomic Tree
This moving video takes us on a journey into the memories of one of the world’s most revered trees, a 400 year old Japanese white pine bonsai. The tree’s rings hold stories from its inception as a tiny seed, through its early years surrounded by monks who prayed in the surrounding forest. It holds memories of sunlight and purifying rain. Tended by the loving touch and care of five generations of the Yamaki family, the tree and the family survived the devastation of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. In 1976 it was gifted to the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. where it remains as a symbol of the merger of lives, forests, and the human family. { read more }

Elephant Journal: Spirit Daughter: A Poem to Stir us as we Rise in Power
If we would listen to the universe, we would notice that it’s always whispering messages to us through songs, dreams, numbers, animals, coincidences and thoughts.
These invisible threads connect us all. Yet, we have forgotten that nature is not just our environment, but who we are at our core.

MNN: 12 enchanting quirks of the rare ghost orchid
The ghost orchid is aptly named for a few reasons. Its white flowers have a vaguely spectral appearance, and they seem to hover in the forest due to an illusion created by the leafless plant. This effect also makes the rare orchid even harder to find, especially outside the brief, unpredictable window when it blooms in summer.

Perseus follows Cassiopeia across the night sky. It’s fainter, but has a graceful shape and some of the sky’s most interesting stars and star clusters.

Patheos-Pagan: Language and the Gods
In this month’s Conversations Under the Oaks, I had two questions on language and languages that I want to address together.
How far does the study of language and archaeology work into your worship and relationships with the Gods?

PONDER THE RULES
“To do exactly as your neighbors do is the only sensible rule.”
— Emily Post
Do you have strong and clear definitions for what is acceptable and what is not?
Where have these rules come from? What’s the purpose of these judgments? What do they protect?
Can we explore new territory for ourselves and others by allowing and even welcoming spontaneity, exuberance and surprises?
“The idea that men are created free and equal is both true and misleading: men are created different; they lose their social freedom and their individual autonomy in seeking to become like each other.”
— David Riesman

A Note from the Universe
Some of what frustrates us here the most are your regrets over the past, insecurities over downtime, and self-doubts over decisions to be made.
Please, the past was only a warm-up, your downtime allows us to set a new stage, and it’s you we proudly call “the boss.”
Born to run,
The Universe

Vision
“Visions are like dreams, only they occur in the waking state.”
-Carl G. Jung (1875-1961)
Are we awake? Are we thinking clearly? Are we seeing clearly? When we can answer these questions affirmatively and have a vision that has caught our attention, we need to do something about it. There’s a reason why certain visions come to us at certain times in our lives. And there’s a reason why certain visions come to certain people and not others. It doesn’t matter where this vision comes from, once we have it, it is ours. And it is up to us to act on it, to do what we can to make this world a better place.

Daily Tarot: The Judgement
You can secure an important victory and achieve a long-held aspiration today. This obviously is not an overnight achievement but probably something you’ve been intermittently pursuing for a long time. Some dreams refuse to die, and this may be the day for one of those dreams to begin to see the light of day in the real world. Be heartened and don’t let up now.
