Coffey Talk: Abracadabra!
Abracadabra is an ancient word used by magicians when they are ready to make something magical happen. It’s often accompanied by a swirl of the magic wand and followed by the wave of a scarf to reveal the magic trick. The origin of this word “abracadabra” is thought to be from the Aramaic language. Abra means “to create” and “cadabra” means “as I say.” So the parts put together translates to “I create as I say.”
Back in the Roman times doctors treated malaria sufferers with an amulet inscribed with the word “abracadabra” written in the form of a triangle. This was said to diminish the hold that the disease had over the patient. Over the years this magical word has had various uses, as it can be found on amulets in various cultures. Today the word is commonly used as an incantation by stage magicians.
In the “Harry Potter” series the expression “Avada Kedavra” is used as a spell known as the “Killing Curse.” Author J.K. Rowling said of the Curse’s etymology: “It is an ancient spell in Aramaic, and it is the original abracadabra, which means “let the thing be destroyed.” Originally, it was used to cure illness…”
Magic is all around us, whether we use the words or not. But sometimes using these “magic words” helps to remind us of the power we have, and how we can harness it. Think about how you can create as you say. Set your intention, put in the effort, and watch magic happen!

Wise Woman Herbal: The Deva of the Inner Child
by Robina Hearle
I have had the privilege of seeing a Deva; this has enabled me to teach others by way of this story.
I was driving home one day after visiting my sister Sue, musing to myself that it was about time we held a workshop. The subject that seemed so obvious was The Healing of the Inner child as we constantly talked to our respective clients about the importance of this issue. [We both work as Reiki Masters and Spiritual Healers facilitating others to heal themselves.] I made a mental note of my thoughts to tell her, needless to say I forgot about it.

WHAT DEPLETES YOUR SOUL?
“Certain activities, attitudes, foods, and persons support the cultivation of an unconscious life. They draw us away from our center. They throw us off- balance. They deplete the soul.”
— Patricia Lynn Reilly
Some activities we think are restful are, in fact, draining. Set an intention to really become aware of how you feel after you’ve engaged in different activities. Solitude and awareness help us make better choices for ourselves.
“Enlightenment is not about imagining figures of light but of making the darkness conscious.”

Conversation
“Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversation.”
-Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)
Conversation. Communication between people. Conversation is often called an art, because it can take talent, and skill. We know when we’ve had a good conversation – we feel like there was an exchange of energy and ideas. We feel heard, and understood. We feel like we’ve learned something, or that we’ve spent our time well. It’s more than just “small talk,” it’s something substantial – a meal rather than a snack!

Daily Tarot: The Magician
You might be set up to be the smart one and solve a problem or two for someone else. While it might be your idea of fun to perform and be clever, try to keep things simple, especially if this is a work-related issue. It will cost you little or no effort and win you a lot of admiration, and maybe some monetary reward later.
