Daily Good: Of Wild Wolves And Bottle-Fed Squirrels

“In the arena of ocean ecology and conservation, Carl Safina is a superstar. Through television documentaries, his writings and the Safina Center, he’s been a vital force for years in educating the public about ocean pollution, overfishing and conservation […] I was enthralled with Safina’s blend of stories from his time in the field with elephants, wolves and orcas (killer whales) and the people who study them, especially with the way he blended those stories with the latest science of animal minds.” This fascinating interview { read more }

Elephant Journal: Full Moon in Fiery Leo Ignites Relationships: 3 Practices to Embrace your Fire. (February 9th)

Can you easily see the moon phases from where you live?
Sometimes I envy those prairie dwellers with big skies. I live among a series of small mountains and buildings which obstruct the view of the moon, and then there’s clouds and fog, because of my elevation. I especially love seeing moonrise, when it looms big over the horizon before it settles into the night sky. That’s when I really feel its magic.

MNN: Give spring bees a boost with dandelion blooms

U.K. homeowners eager to dust off mowers and welcome spring with a freshly cut lawn are being encouraged by the British Ecological Society (BES) to slow down and smell the dandelions. The yellow flowers, native to both Eurasia and North America, are most prevalent during spring and provide a critical food source to bees and other early pollinators just exiting hibernation.

In North America, we often call the February full moon the Snow Moon or Hunger Moon. From around the world these next two nights – February 8 and 9, 2020 – the moon will appear plenty full to the eye as it lights up the eastern sky after sunset. On February 8, as dusk turns into darkness, watch for Regulus,

Patheos-Pagan: Salutations to the Sun…Sun Magick

The Sun… our light, our warmth, our existence. The Sun is to most a male aspect, in pagan beliefs the Sun being the god, the Moon his goddess. Together they wax and wane, and in doing so bring us many influences and magickal opportunities.

Inner Journey:

BIG MIND, LITTLE MIND

“It is the mind that makes one wise or ignorant, bound or emancipated.”
— Sri Ramakrishna
Zen distinguishes big mind from small mind. Big mind identifies with its process, is impersonal and participates universally. Big mind is unlimited possibilities, deeper understanding, forgiveness, acceptance, insight, connectedness, attention.
Small mind is self centred and focuses only on itself. It is compulsive, limited, reactive and mechanical. Small mind feeds on itself — fear reacts to fear, judgment reacts to judgment, anger sparks more anger.
Always seek higher perspectives and you will in time find freedom.
“If a pickpocket meets a Holy Man, he will see only his pockets.”
— Hari Dass
“Minds are like parachutes; they work best when open.”
— Lord Thomas Dewar

A Note from the Universe

I hope you’re loving your life. And I do mean really, really loving your life.

Because right now there are so many others who are (loving your life). In time and space, and in the unseen.

No, not all of them will admit it, but I know these things, and one day you’ll know them, too.

Big hug,

The Universe

Courage

“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.”

-Anais Nin (1903-1977)

The amount of courage that we have depends on the way that we see ourselves. Remember the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz? He went to see the Wizard because he did not like being cowardly – he wanted the Wizard to give him courage. And yet, just by setting out on the journey, taking that step forward into the unfamiliar, took a great deal of courage! And all along the way, the lion was put into situations where he could demonstrate his courage – and he did, without even realizing it! It takes until the end of the story for the lion to see that his courage was with him all the time. And with that discovery, his life expanded.

Daily Tarot: Strength

Although it may be a peaceful day, that calm may all be on the surface. If dissatisfaction or anger is brewing at depth, there could be thoughts or fantasies of revenge or anger to fuel the bad feelings. Face everyone and everything with great care and respect. You have more than enough strength to deal with whatever comes up. Obviously, don’t bait or antagonize anyone. Kindness wins
