Daily Good: Why We Should Take World Octopus Day Seriously
To share such a moment of deep tranquility with another being, especially one as different from us as the octopus, is a humbling privilege.

Why We Should Take World Octopus Day Seriously
In 2011 author and naturalist Sy Montgomery wrote “Deep Intellect,”for Orion magazine, her piece investigated the inner life of the octopus. “Since its publication this feature remains the most-read Orion article of all-time. On this World Octopus Day, we reached out to Sy for an update on her continued relationship with these eight-armed, three-hearted creatures, and how they might help guide us in this moment of tumult and uncertainty.” { read more }

EarthSky News: Autumn’s false dawn, the zodiacal light
The next few weeks offer a wonderful opportunity to catch the mysterious zodiacal light – aka the false dawn – of autumn. The moon is out of the morning sky for the next two weeks, leaving the sky dark. Watch for the zodiacal light in the east – over the sunrise point on the horizon – an hour or so before true dawn begins to light the sky.

Inner Journey: FEAR LIVES IN THE FUTURE
“We can’t fear the past. Fear is a future thing. And since the future’s all in our heads, fear must be a head thing.”
— Tom Payne
It helps to understand that fear is usually a projection into the future. We typically fear what MIGHT happen rather than what is happening now.
Susan Jeffers notes that 90% of what we fear usually does not materialize. So replace your images of disaster on the TV screen in your mind with awareness of what is really happening. And don’t allow your thinking to change channels.
“I have not ceased being fearful, but I have ceased to let fear control me.”
— Erica Jong

Study
“Just as eating contrary to the inclination is injurious to the health, so study without desire spoils the memory, and it retains nothing that it takes in.”
-Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519)
A computer is impartial. It will save and store anything, and we can retrieve it from the computer just as we put it in there. But our minds don’t work that way. If something doesn’t matter to us, if it has no relevance to anything in our lives, then there is no reason for us to remember it, and we usually don’t. But when we choose to study something that is important to us, when we have that desire, then what we learn becomes a part of who we are. We make room for the memory in our mind, and we use the information in context with what we already know.

Daily Tarot: Temperance
See through a false impression or some illusion that has been projected to throw you off course or to misjudge someone. Done innocently or deliberately, you can dispel that false impression and work your way right through it. You could even do this without challenging or confronting anyone directly, thus saving yourself the trauma of a showdown. Go slow when making any decisions that affect others.
