Through golden noons and purple eves, and shadows cool and tender,
From scenes of tranquil happiness and dreams of deep delight,
October like a princess in her oriental splendor
Comes down the valley singing with her retinue of light.
-Katharine Brownlee Sherwood (1841-1914)

Pagan Library: The Albion Song
Fading away in the mists of time
The Older Gods did go.
And we mere mortals left behind
with Younger Gods to know.
And now they too are fading fast
And we are left alone.
And, oh, my love
I grieve the past and long to go back home.

ThoughtCo: Samhain Folklore – Halloween Superstitions and Legends
While we Pagans are celebrating Samhain on October 31 (or at the beginning of May, if you’re one of our southern hemisphere readers), for many of our friends and neighbors, this is the Halloween season. No matter what you choose to call it, or how you’re celebrating, this time of year has been a source of superstitions and folklore for a very long time.
MBG: An Introduction To The 4 Elements & What They Say About Each Zodiac Sign
In astrology, each of the 12 zodiac signs is associated with one of the four elements: fire, earth, air, and water. Whenever we think about our signs, it’s important to take the elements into consideration too, as the qualities of the elements directly relate to the qualities of the signs.

Elephant Journal: A Seasonal Surrender: I’m Leaving my Old Self Behind.
The woman I will become is waiting.
She stands with open arms, anticipating the moment I will embrace and embody her. When I close my eyes, I can see her tender yet tenacious smile. When my mind falls silent, I can hear her footsteps between my heartbeats—stable, strong, and sultry..
Treehugger: Why Does Autumn Have Two Names?
As the seasons change, the days grow shorter, the leaves change colors and the collection of flavors called pumpkin spice is added to practically everything.
EarthSky News: Birth of young moon at day’s end, October 17-20
The closest new moon of the year was October 16, 2020, at which time the moon was transitioning out of the morning sky and into the evening sky. On October 17, some people might spot the young moon’s rebirth at day’s end. If you do see it, the moon will be low in the west, in the glow of sunset. Be forewarned … this young, pale, fragile crescent after sunset October 17 will be a challenge to spot, even with binoculars, especially from Northern Hemisphere locations.
Patheos-Pagan: Common Magical Tools in Witchcraft
A section on magical tools and their associations is not uncommon in a grimoire. As you advance, collecting interesting facts about different cultural expressions of these kinds of tools can inform your practice and challenge you to look at things differently. Remember, your grimoire itself is also a magical tool, containing knowledge and energy.

Inner Journey: PURPOSE BRINGS JOY
“Our purpose is hidden in our joy, our inspiration, our excitement. As we act on what shows up in our life our purpose shows up.”
— James King
For many of us, our joy is truly activated when we get a bigger picture of who we are and why we are here.
Most of us need to enlarge our self-concept. We may see ourselves as a bag of bones but, in truth, we are eternal, multi-faceted and multi-dimensional spiritual beings having a human experience. It’s time to think of ourselves as much larger and grander than just a physical and emotional being confined in a body.
“There is no more important step you can take than to define your life’s purpose. It develops your sense of belonging to our universe.”
— Arnold Patent
A Note from the Universe

“Other than life experience, nothing left a deeper imprint on my formative self than the movies.”
-Letty Cottin Pogrebin, 1991
Some movies just stick with us. There are certain phrases, certain scenes, we always remember. And we can learn from the effect that the movies have on us. Remember how Dorothy, in “The Wizard of Oz,” just wanted to go home? And she was really there all the time. What a powerful message. And the Tin-Man wanted a heart so badly, and yet, it was there all along, he just didn’t recognize it. We can relate to these characters on their journey as we follow our own yellow-brick road.
