“This is what I have heard
at last the wind in December
lashing the old trees with rain
unseen rain racing along the tiles
under the moon
wind rising and falling
wind with many clouds
trees in the night wind.”

Learn Religions: New Beginnings Ritual
By Patti Wigington
Updated on November 11, 2018
There are many times in our life when all of us feel like we need a new start. Whether it’s at the beginning of a new year, a new moon phase, or even just because we’re having tough times in our life, sometimes it helps to sit down, breathe a bit, and focus on making things change.

Elephant Journal: 8 Powerful Intention Cards for the Stellar Year Ahead.
As the calendar year of 2021 chugs to completion, the time is ripe for reflecting on the past year and setting intentions for the coming one.
Personally, it has been a year of processing and healing. I was fortunate to travel to Texas, California, and Oregon in May and June to visit friends and family with my daughter during a calm era of the pandemic in the United States. I was blessed to spend the rest of the year at home in rural Guatemala.

Treehugger: 10 Surreal Bryce Canyon National Park Facts
Southwestern Utah’s Bryce Canyon National Park is famous for its bright pillars of orange-toned rock formations, which appear to shoot out of the earth from all corners of the horseshoe-shaped landscape. These unique formations are called “hoodoos,” and they’re just one of the many features that help make this park so special.

EarthSky News: Mars in 2022! What to expect from the red planet
Mars is bright sometimes, but not now
Mars was in our evening sky for much of 2021. But, around October, the red planet disappeared from our sky for a time. Its superior conjunction – when it was most directly behind the sun as seen from Earth – was October 8. Now Mars has returned to our sky as a faint red dot low in the east before sunrise

JOHN BECKETT
2021 has been a difficult year at Under the Ancient Oaks. Blog traffic is the lowest it’s been in five years. Some of that is fewer people blogging regularly at Patheos Pagan, some is algorithm changes by Facebook and Google, and some is the decline of blogging in general.

Inner Journey:
IMPRISONED BY YOUR THOUGHTS?
“Problems exist only in the human mind.”
— Anthony de Mello
For most of us, there’s always a long ‘to do’ list. That’s a fact.
And it’s easy to feel victimized. ‘Poor me!’ That’s not a fact – that’s a choice.
Experiment with your life to explore how much your mind is your jailer. Simply let go of the ‘oh woe’ kinds of thoughts. Silence your mind. Be right here, right now. Decide what you will do now and do it, without buying in to the mind’s sob story. When one task is done, you can then choose another.
Allowing the mind to agonize about the size of the ‘to do’ list just makes us tired before we even get started. It doesn’t have to be this way.
“Don’t water your weeds.”
— Harvey Mackay

Personality
“It is thus with most of us; we are what other people say we are. We know ourselves chiefly by hearsay.”
-Eric Hoffer
How well do we really know ourselves? How do we define ourselves? When studying a play, actors learn about their characters by reading the script and noting what their character says, and also what the other characters say about that character. In our own script, what are we saying about ourselves? And what are other people saying about us? Let’s look at that and see what we can learn about ourselves

Daily Tarot: Death
Say goodbye to some old useless habit and welcome the chance to develop a new habit that will serve you better and take you further. The Death card is not so much the end of anything as it is the shutting off of some automatic pilot switch and getting you back out under your own power again. Be strong. You can more fully embrace this change in the near future.
