Mind Body Green: 5 Quick Ways To Finally Put An End To Impostor Syndrome

Often when I sit down at my desk to prepare for a big interview, write an outline for a speaking engagement, or work on a new article, whispers of self-doubt swirl through my mind.

Before I even begin, the fear can start to get to me. “You know nothing,” a little voice says. “Who are you to deserve this opportunity? No one wants to hear what you have to say.” I know I’m not the only one. How many of you have heard those exact words echo through your mind—maybe after a promotion, an invitation, or being asked to pioneer a new project? Why, hello there, impostor syndrome.

Impostor syndrome was first named by a pair of clinical psychologists in the 1970s,

Spirituality & Health: 5 ways To Declutter Your Social Life

We declutter our drawers, our cars and our closets. How often do we tidy up our social lives? They probably aren’t terribly streamlined, as pruning them sounds so  severe. It’s okay to take stock. Consider the research of esteemed anthropologist Robin Dunbar, who studies the evolutionary structure of social networks in primates. He’s found there’s a ceiling to just how many meaningful relationships at a time we can have, and it’s based on brain size. For humans, it tops out at 150 about the size of a small village. More than that, it’s simply too hard to maintain. Let’s look at the idea of streamlining your friendships.

A Bountiful Moment:

Instead of saying “I can’t”  ask yourself  “what can I do” to create the solution.

Daily Thought: Stop repeating I can’t and starting thinking what am I doing or what can I do to change what is creating the current stress or difficult situation. Every day place your focus on the solution to direct tomorrows living. The solution will allow you to maintain control over your life and your future.

Daily Practice: Pay attention today to the times you tell yourself you cannot do something. Why are you telling yourself that? Note what is happening and why you feel like you have no power over what is occurring. Then take a deep breathe and think of every possible solution to change what you cant do. Do not dismiss anything, every thought counts until you find one that works. Apply the possible and be in control.

Have a Great Day and Believe in Yourself!

Patheos-Pagan: Finding The Balance

I’m sure, after the post I made about Supergirl a couple of years ago, it will come as no surprise to you that I’m a huge fan of Star Wars. With the digital release yesterday of The Last Jedi, I have it on the brain  specifically, the way the newest trilogy is appreciating true balance of light and dark, and the spectrum between.

Competing Narratives

I have struggled for most of my life with western culture’s dominant narrative of light equalling good and dark equalling evil. It’s an aspect of the great cosmic battle that we inherited from the Zoroastrians, and their influence on first Judaism and then Christianity

Inner Journey: Hope and Disappointment

“It’s precisely the disappointing stories, which have no proper ending and therefore no proper meaning, that sound true to life.”
— Max Frisch

“Don’t get your hopes up!”

Were you warned of this as a child? What does this say? It says that life is bound to disappoint you. It says, don’t aim high because you’re not likely to get what you want. It says that we can’t expect good things to happen to us.

As our thinking creates our reality, this kind of thinking dooms us to a mundane existence. It’s time to change our stories. Why not focus the immense power of our hearts and minds on bringing to fruition the very best life has to offer? Allow yourself to hope and believe in all possibilities.

“Hope is the companion of power, and the mother of success; for who so hopes has within him the gift of miracles.”
— Samuel Smiles

“The very least you can do in your life is to figure out what you hope for. And the most you can do is live inside that hope. Not admire it from a distance but live right in it, under its roof.”
— Barbara Kingsolver

Today’s Recipe: Tangerine and Lime Bars

There are two reasons why I’ve made these scrumptious tangerine lime bars. First off, I love tangerine and lime flavours so much, I think they need to be stars of more foods. Secondly, my tangerine and lime trees really outdid my lemon tree this year, so when I went to pick fruit in my garden, this was the best idea for a sweet treat! This a very simplified recipe, so there is no egg separating or tempering necessary. The flavours aren’t as tart as lemon bars, they’re well rounded and velvety. I hope you give these a try. 🙂
