Through sunny days and yellow weeks,
With clouds that melt in tears,
The glory of the harvest speaks
In all the silken ears.

ThoughtCo: Profile of The Greek God Poseidon

In Greek mythology and legend, Poseidon is the god of the sea. However, his domain includes some aspects of the land as well, and in fact he is known as “earth-shaker” in many stories, because of his penchant for causing earthquakes. Poseidon was responsible, according to Greek legend, for the collapse of the Minoan civilization on the island of Crete, which was all but destroyed by a giant quake and tsunami.

MBG: These 5 Oracle Decks Would Love To Be Your Personal Life Coaches This Fall

In wellness speak, a “deck of cards” does not imply a joker, ace, or six of hearts. Tarot and oracle decks are much more popular among today’s health-centric crowds, used to relieve stress, decide on next steps, or access the divine, depending on who you’re talking to.

Daily Good: India’s Little Librarian

Poor neighborhoods in India typically have low literacy rates because residents do not have the resources necessary to educate their children. 9-year-old Muskaan Ahirwar is working to change this in her impoverished neighborhood in Bhopal. In January 2016, she opened a library outside her house to give kids free access to books and a place to read. She started with just a few books and now has several hundred from around the world. Her library gets 25 visitors a day and the kids play knowledge games and hold competitions to see who can read the most. The library has given those kids who used to wander the streets a place to go and read regularly. “Whoever has the drive to learn, they should start their own library and start learning, and study like us and get ahead in life” says Muskaan. { read more }

Natural Living Ideas: 13 Uses For Tea Tree Oil That Will Change Your Life

Not to be confused with an extract of the tea plant (Camellia sinensus), tea tree oil is distilled from the leaves of the Australian tea tree (Melalenca alternifolia.) Although it is highly toxic when ingested, thanks to its antibiotic, anti-fungal, antiseptic, expectorant and antiviral properties, tea tree oil has a surprising number of topical uses which can help cure or prevent a whole host of everyday maladies, which is why it is often referred to as a “medicine cabinet in a bottle.”

Elephant Journal: 12 Dr. Seuss Quotes to remind us of the Messiness & Magic of Life.

Like many of us, I grew up on Dr. Seuss.
My parents would frequently read aloud The Sneetches, Green Eggs and Ham, and The Lorax, among others. We would watch the animated version of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” every Christmas Eve. And when I spoke at my high school graduation, I ended my speech with an excerpt from Oh, The Places You’ll Go.

MNN: Everything you need to know about mooncakes (including why they’re so expensive)

After Chinese New Year, the Mid-Autumn Festival is the most important celebration in China. It falls on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese lunar calendar, so the celebration changes each year. This year, the holiday falls on Sept. 13.

The September 2019 full moon has passed. Now the moon is in a waning gibbous phase, which means it rises in the east later and later each evening. Beginning around the morning of September 15 or 16, 2019, look west after sunrise for the daytime moon.

Patheos-Pagan: Eclipse Magic: How To Properly Harness The Power Of An Eclipse

A lot of people say we shouldn’t do any magical workings on an eclipse, but I’ve had such great success with them. It’s like an energetic portal opens–my work is more powerful, more successful, and deeply meaningful.

Inner Journey:

“Smell is a potent wizard that transports us across thousands of miles and all the years we have lived.”
— Helen Keller

Many of us are so wrapped up in our thinking and activity that we have lost touch with our senses. Sensing brings us fully into the moment. Only when we are aware and conscious can we receive the gifts of experience our senses continually bring us.

Today, set an intention to be aware of smells. Focus on your nose and awaken to its sensitivity. As you smell more consciously, let go of your judgment of the aromas. Don’t label them good or bad; simply experience them for their individual qualities. Also note when smells revive old memories.

“When you start using senses you’ve neglected, your reward is to see the world with completely fresh eyes.”
— Barbara Sher

Today’s Recipe: Australian Honey Joys

These sweet treats couldn’t be easier to make. I’ve heard them be called the Australian version of the American Rice Krispie Treat. Where Americans use crisped rice and marshmallows, Australians use cornflakes and honey.

Daily Wisdom
September 16, 2019

“How did language develop? In much the same way as an economic order develops through the market – out of the voluntary interaction of individuals, in this case seeking to trade ideas or information or gossip rather than goods and services with one another.”

-Milton Friedman and Rose Friedman, 1979

Whatever language we speak, it’s our way of communicating with one another. Language is a means of translating our feelings and emotions into words so that we can be understood. When we can master a language, then we can be more clearly understood, and we can more clearly understand, too. There’s always more to learn, about words, and about each other.

-Lissa Coffey

Daily Tarot: The Pope

People may look to you to get some enthusiasm back into their lives. If sagging a little in spirit yourself, you can still inspire others. This can cheer you up, too, so don’t underestimate a small glimmer of joy in something that you genuinely love. No one has to agree with you. They only have to allow you to do what feels best to you – and you to them.
