Spirituality & Health: Mindful Walking

In the children’s book Wacky Wednesday, Dr. Seuss imagines a world where people are doing very odd things indeed, like driving a car facing backward. That’s how I felt the other day in my neighborhood. I saw one lady pushing her stroller, totally ignoring her baby while staring at her text messages. Another walked her dog, equally mesmerized by her phone and ignoring her cute pooch.

Daily Good: Cooking Stirs the Pot for Social Change

Every time we step to our stoves to make a meal we’re engaging with the society around us. Each ingredient that we use, every technique, every spice tells a story about our access, our privilege, our heritage, and our culture. The foods and dishes we consume are all part of larger forces that impact our lives. Our appetites and what we crave are the result of our place in the world at that time.

MNN: These wild animals can help guard your garden

When you grow plants for food, you’re part of a cultural revolution that dates back more than 10,000 years. It might not seem very revolutionary today, but agriculture helped our hunting-and-gathering ancestors sow the seeds of civilization. It was almost like humanity had finally begun to wean itself off the wilderness.

Let’s be hoax-busters. This one is sure to be circulating, since it circulates every year. No. Mars will not be as large as the moon on July 27, August 27, or ever.

Patheos-Pagan: The Moon…what’s yours called?

Each monthly moon has a name and these are different in each culture, region, country, faith or religion – many, many different names but usually they refer to the season, the weather or what the people are up to at that time of the year.

Inner Journey:

WE PROJECT OUR STRENGTHS

“Any situation that you find yourself in, is an outward reflection of your inner state of beingness.”
— El Morya

We have discussed that OUR WORLD MIRRORS WHO WE ARE BACK TO US. When we get upset by something outside of us, our reaction shows us that we have an inner wound to be healed.

Just as we can be unconscious of our wounds, we can also be unconscious of our strengths. If you are really drawn to the positive qualities in another person, you are being invited to own those same qualities in yourself.

“The people we are in relationship with are always a mirror, reflecting our own beliefs, and simultaneously we are mirrors reflecting their beliefs. So relationship is one of the most powerful tools for growth… if we look honestly at our relationships we can see so much about how we have created them.”
— Shakti Gawain

“Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures.”

Music

“Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom. If you don’t live it, it won’t come out of your horn. They teach you there’s a boundary line to music. But, man, there’s no boundary line to art.” -Charlie Parker (1920-1955)

Whatever we create comes through us. It is our own expression of music, or any kind of art, that makes it unique and original. Music is a part of the universe, and when we take the time to listen, we can channel it through to our everyday lives. There are infinite possibilities before us, and music is one way that we can experience that.

Beliefnet: A Spiritual Response to Daily Outrage

These days, we seem to be stuck in an endless cycle of awful news reports. Injustice seems more common than fairness. People in search of power or celebrity behave badly, sometimes with criminal cruelty. Social media seems to feed the cravings of drama addicts who pick fights just to enjoy watching folks spinning like tops in their fury. Who does not want to wash away the daily barrage of outrage?

MBG: What Your Chiron Sign Reveals About Your Greatest Strengths & Weakness

According to Greek mythology, Chiron was a healer, philosopher, and teacher who, ironically, could not heal himself. Chiron’s placement in your natal chart can reveal a core wound that may take a lifetime to work through. But don’t distress: Our Chiron placement is also our secret power! As we grapple with pain, we gain wisdom that we can pass on to others like a magical salve. In fact, the symbol for Chiron is shaped like a key since unlocking his powers opens up a portal to deep, inner peace.

A Bountiful Moment

Keep your mind on the things you want and off the things you don’t want. ~Napoleon Hill

Daily Thought: Remember to always search and focus on the positive side to any situation you are encountering. Remember there is always a positive side. It is natural in the moments of a huge upset all you can see is the downside. But never forget there are two side to everything we encounter. It just depends on what you put your attention to.

Daily Practice:Keep your mind focused on the benefits you are striving to achieve with every step you make forward. Do not let little setbacks distract you from focusing on what you set to achieve. Visualize what the end goal is. Re-evaluate your steps and re-implement some of them if you need to. But make sure you are focusing on what you want not on what is distracting you from achieving it.

Have a Great Day and Believe in Yourself!

 Coffey Talk: Lucky Ladybug

Many people shriek at the site of a bug, but the ladybug evokes smiles. This pretty little red and black creature is a symbol that we often see in the Spring and Summer printed on clothes and linens along with other garden images.

The ladybird or ladybug as we’ve known to call them, is actually a member of the beetle family. It is mentioned in numerous poems and nursery rhymes and is a favorite among children because of this. The ladybird has always been dedicated to the goddesses is said to be named for the Virgin Mary. The ladybird is a symbol of good luck of prosperity and also of fertility since it is a prolific insect. One tale says that if a ladybird lands in a female’s hand, she will be married within a year.

The ladybird is also a symbol of protection. There is a story that took place in the Middle Ages where aphids and other pests were ruining the crops. In desperation, the farmers were praying to the Virgin Mary for help. Shortly afterwards, ladybirds appeared and decimated the aphids. This is symbolic of the power of the beautiful beetle and the strength that could be found in the little things. The whole is more than the sum of the parts.

The ladybird is able to protect itself from larger predators because it gives off a scent that is so strong and repellent to its attackers. It is self-reliant. The number of spots on its back is symbolic as well. The spots are said to be a marker of the time it will take for something good to happen.

EarthSky News: Bright star Vega on May evenings

Tonight, look for the star Vega, the fifth brightest star in the sky. If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere, you’ll find this beautiful bluish star easily, simply by looking northeastward at mid-evening in May.

Try it! Just look northeast in mid-evening in May. You’ll see this bright bluish star shining above that horizon. From far south in the Southern Hemisphere, you can’t see this star until late at night in May because Vega is located so far north on the sky’s dome. Vega will reach its high point for the night around 3 to 4 hours after midnight, at which time people in the Southern Hemisphere can see this star in the northern sky. As seen from mid-northern latitudes, the star shines high overhead at this early morning hour.

Patheos-Pagan: What is part of the Lore ?

The Lore of a group develops ideologically – we choose which things to add and to emphasize based on what we already believe and do rather than by an unbiased consideration of these new items. This isn’t always a bad thing because it results in a deeper and more complex exploration of issues and ideas, unless the group or individual does not realize that is what they are doing and mistakes their biases for objectivity.

Connection

“Nonbeing can never be;
being can never not be.
Both these statements are obvious
To those who have seen the truth.”

-The Bhagavad Gita

So, just where do we go to see “the truth?” If there were a cruise to get there I’ll bet we’d all sign up! But we don’t have to get on a luxury ship to see the Truth. We don’t have to go anywhere. We just need to go within. It’s all there. All the answers we seek. All the miracles we chase. Look within. You’ll see.
