Spiritual Unite: When You Have Spiritual Connection With Cats

We don’t often have to think about how cats come into our home and lives; they are just there. What we don’t think about, is that cats match with spiritual people. Most often cat owners are people with enhanced spiritual gifts. Cats connect with spiritual people, but why are they such a good match?

MBG: Overwhelmed By World News? There’s A Spiritual Practice For That

At their root, most spiritual practices are meant to help you keep your heart open and your mind calm—no matter what life brings. But Western culture oftentimes takes this one step further and equates the use of spiritual practice with feeling “good.” Meditating will make you happier. You’re only anxious because you’re not trusting a source larger than yourself. Visualizing a positive outcome will ensure your success. You’ll just feel better if you lean into your true nature.

Those ideas have their merits in some situations, but in times of real human emergency, leaning on spiritual ideals or beliefs in this way can have the opposite effect:

Daily Good: A Miraculous Life of More

“What is it like to be in the midst of a miracle? The idea of a miracle sounds so warm and delicious, the kind of thing you would aspire to experience in a minute, right? Well, in fact, here on earth we are in the middle of miracle school, whether you remember enrolling or not. And, much like life itself (a miracle in its own right), it’s not all sunshine and rainbows.” In this uplifting piece, Anna Alkin challenges our understanding of miracles, calling attention the courage that is needed to face the discomfort and pain that accompany transformation. { read more }

Elephant Journal: There’s No Difference between Being Creative & Being Spiritual.

Every day, I think about writing—yet I haven’t felt quite ready to call myself a writer.
I thought I needed a beautifully poetic surname like Hemingway, or a job title like Professor of Literature, or to have published at least one novel that’s graced the shelf of an actual book shop, and not my Year 12 English assignment that graces the entry table at mum’s house.
And I don’t think I’m alone.

MNN: Why Washington is counting every cat

Washington, D.C., is engaged in an expensive and tricky project that has absolutely nothing to do with Congress.

Instead, a coalition of animal welfare organizations and researchers are working together to count all the cats in the U.S. capital. (And you thought herding cats was hard.)

EarthSky News: Coming up the  Century’s longest lunar eclipse

The eclipse is visible on Friday from Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and some of South America. No eclipse visible in North America. Click in for links to online coverage.

Patheos-Pagan: Discernment – The Most Powerful Tool

I wrote an article about keeping silent with magickal workings and I’ve received some interesting responses. I still maintain that keeping silent about spellcraft is important, however, Witchcraft is not a ‘one size fits all’ system. What works for me may not work for you and vice versa. What I love about magick is the Law of Paradox; two things in opposition to each other can both be true. This concept is why discernment is the most powerful tool a witch possesses.

Inner Journey:

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

When we don’t know who we are — or if we are afraid to be who we are — we betray ourselves. We pretend to be who we think we are. Our self image is made up of our experiences, desires and other people’s ideas and expectations of us.

Maintaining this false self is a betrayal of ourselves. In all deep spiritual journeys, there is the experience of betrayal. Betrayal always tells us to adjust our life to be more authentic. What we identify with is all important.

There are large betrayals (e.g., your partner leaving you) and small betrayals (e.g., disappointments). They are all experiences of being wounded for the purpose of breaking down the defenses of the personality. When we allow the wounding and accept the betrayals as divine gifts, we greatly benefit.

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”
— Dr. Seuss (via Elena)

“What you must dare is to be yourself.”
— Dag Hammarskjold

Great is the sun, and wide he goes
Through empty heaven with repose;
And in the blue and glowing days
More thick than rain he showers his rays.
-Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-94)

A Note from the Universe

Have you ever noticed how folks instinctively know that creating wealth is much more fun than spending it, yet they dream more about spending it than they do about creating it?

Could it be they’ve momentarily forgotten that they’re supernatural, that they can have whatever they want, and that life is but a dream?

It’s all yours, baby –

Today’s Recipe: Cardamom Carrot Nut Jam

This is an exotic Persian twist on a typical jam, using carrots, cardamom, pistachios and almonds. The ingredients are known to be crunchy in their original state, but when cooked down, they turn almost honey-like. You will love this jam for your toasts, and even drizzled on yogurt. I love to give these as gifts!

“Don’t loaf and invite inspiration.
Light out after it with a club.”

-Jack London (1876-1916)

Inspiration can come to us… but more often it is something we go out and find. And we can find it just about anywhere! Spirit is everywhere, in everything. We may have to change our scenery once in awhile to wake us up to that fact. But look around – we are living amongst the richest treasures of spirit all the time – choose to be inspired.
