When high the sun in noonday glory rides,
Where willows keep the lake’s green margin cool,
The speckled trout amid their shadow hides,
And dragonflies haunt every shaded pool.
-Thomas S. Collier (1842-93)

Did you know………….

A cat’s eyesight is both better and worse than humans. It is better because cats can see in much dimmer light and they have a wider peripheral view. It’s worse because they don’t see color as well as humans do. Scientists believe grass appears red to cats.

ThoughtCo: How to Do a Candle Wax Reading

A candle wax reading is similar to reading tea leaves, but instead of reading symbols and messages formed by wet tea leaves inside your teacup, it’s the candle drippings formed in water that we interpret. No matter what type of divination tools you use, two basic elements are required: 1) A Question and 2) An Answer

MBG: Why Seeking Joy Should Be Part Of Your Spiritual Practice

With all the conflict, suffering, and healing work that needs to be done in the world today, it’s tempting to undervalue joy. In the spiritual community, there is a lot of emphasis on working to improve yourself and society at large. This healing work is hugely important—but it can also sound tiring and intimidating.

Pioneer Thinking: Make Herbal Extracts in Your Kitchen

Herbal extracts are made from herbs and alcohol. Alcohol has the effect of removing essential oils from the plant material and releasing them into a liquid solution. Extracts are used in the kitchen for flavoring foods and beverages.

Today’s Deity: Greek Goddess Bia

Bia was a Titan goddess in Greek mythology, daughter of the Titans Pallas and Styx, and had three siblings; Nike, Kratos, and Zelus. Bia was the personification of force. During the Titanomachy, the war between the Titans and the Olympians out of which the latter emerged victorious, Bia and her siblings sided with Zeus, along with Styx. To honour them, Zeus made the four siblings his constant companions.

Elephant Journal: 4 Tools to Process all the Mental & Emotional Noise in our Lives.

Our lives are increasingly oversaturated with noise.
As with the nature of saturation, what we get are various degrees of distortion and shifts in density, all in order to achieve harmonic excitement of some sort—certain elements are made to sound more exciting in order to trigger our responses.

MNN: Reef fish sing a ‘dawn chorus’ like songbirds

On land, being serenaded by birds is a familiar morning routine for many people, especially in healthy ecosystems. We often take this dawn chorus for granted, but it’s part of a natural soundscape that can have therapeutic effects for humans.

EarthSky News: Moon sweeps past planet Uranus

On the mornings of August 21 and 22, you’ll find the waxing gibbous moon sweeping close to the planet Uranus. They’ll be up late at night, too, but low in the sky. You’ll have a better view of them in the wee hours, or before dawn breaks.

Patheos-Pagan: The Forgetting of Our Magick

Yesterday, I attended a council meeting of our local Goddess temple. I know, how lucky am I to live in a place that has a Goddess temple?! Towards the end of the meeting, we discussed the state of the world at large and how helpless we can feel at times. One person remembered a hopeless time in their lives when all was bleak and then she remembered who she was and what she could do.

Inner Journey:

“Asking for help doesn’t mean that we are weak or incompetent. It usually indicates an advanced level of honesty and intelligence.”
— Anne Wilson Schaef

The path of healing begins with awareness that things can be different. We must be willing to open to the potential, the possibility for change.

We also need to acknowledge that we are not in this experience alone, without support. The divine power of love is here for us if we are willing to open to receive it. Sincerely ask for help and loving support will manifest in both mundane and magical ways.

“The healthy, the strong individual, is the one who asks for help when he needs it. Whether he has an abscess on his knee or in his soul.”
— Rona Barrett

Daily Wisdom

“All cases are unique, and very similar to others.”

-T.S. Eliot (1888-1965)

I find this to be true every day of my life. We’re each living our individual lives, going about our business, and our families- and when we take time to connect with each other, we find out that so often we’re going through the same things! We can relate to each other, because in a way we’re living out the same scenarios. It helps to share our experiences, rather than to feel that we’re in it alone.

-Lissa Coffey

Daily Tarot: Temerance

Pace yourself today and get more done than you might imagine as the day begins. It’s all right to be tired from time to time. It doesn’t have to cripple all your plans for the day. Maintain a sensible balance, remember to eat healthy, take a short break once and a while, and don’t aim too high. There’s plenty of work to be done that you can handle with ease.
