The beech is dipped in wine; the shower
Is burnished; on the swinging flower
The latest bee doth sit.
The low sun stares through dust of gold.
And o’er the darkened heath and wold
The large ghost-moth doth flit.
In every orchard Autumn stands,
With apples in his golden hands.

Celebrating the Witches’ New Year

Elephant Journal: A 3-Step Ayurvedic Cleanse to flush out Toxins & Toxic Energy.

I first discovered Ayurveda, the ancient Indian medical system, when I was a professional mountaineer.
When climbing at altitude in the Himalayas, I would occasionally see a black tar-like substance adhering to rock faces. I discovered that this was shilajit, known as a panacea, or cure-all, and revered by the local people.

Inner Journey:

COMPASSION

“What I want in my life is compassion, a flow between myself and others based on a mutual giving from the heart.”
— Marshall B. Rosenberg

“The whole idea of compassion is based on a keen awareness of the interdependence of all these living beings, which are all part of one another, and all involved in one another.”
— Thomas Merton

“When we experience the pain of another person, we instinctively want to take away that pain. But by taking away the other person’s pain, we also take away his or her opportunity to grow. To be truly compassionate, we must be able to share another person’s suffering and pain — knowing there is nothing we can do to relieve it and that we are not responsible for it, and yet knowing and understanding what that pain feels like.”
— John Gray

Today’s Recipe: Snickers-Stuffed Peanut Butter Cookies

Every year around Halloween, I like to come up with a sweet treat that uses candies from trick-or-treating events. Either you have kids that end up with lots of them, or you have loads leftover from handing them out. My favourite candy has always been Snickers, so these peanut butter cookies are stuffed with them. The outside is a lovely sandy, crumbly cookie, and the middle is gooey and chewy from the baked Snickers. I’ve had a dozen people ask me for this recipe after an event I made them for last week, so be ready to share if you make these, too!

Persistence

“Rome was not built in a day.”

-John Clarke (1596-1658)

I’ve always heard this quote, and never knew who said it, so I was happy to come across it this time around. How appropriate! In this fast-paced society we tend to expect instant gratification. How often do you hear people complain about how slow their computers are, or their dial-up, or the pizza guy? And all that spills over into our expectations for ourselves. We want that great job NOW, that dream relationship NOW, enlightenment NOW! But we have to remember that there is always divine timing involved. The seed needs time to sprout, the sprout needs time to grow. We are like that sprout that needs to keep pushing up the dirt, keep reaching toward the sun. We’re growing every day.

Daily Tarot: Death

Though no great demands may be made of you today, you may feel lackluster and just not setting the world on fire as you like to do. Everybody has a low energy day from time to time. Perhaps you’ve been pushing it too hard for too many days in a row and just need a short break. Don’t be lazy but be extra good to yourself. Tomorrow will be brighter.
