Daily Good: Serious Fun
“Leon was a renegade even as a little kid, and bless him, lived a successful life doing it his own way. He came of draft age exactly as America was entering the war in Vietnam, told us he had no intention of getting drafted and then made good on his promise by baking bread for members of the Draft Board the morning he had to appear. There, he ceremoniously cut his loaf into generous slices and handed each member of the Board a well-buttered slice, telling them that his reasons for wanting Conscientious Objector status was baked into his bread! “I could try and say it in words,” he told them, “but tasting my bread will say it much better than I could.” Carolyn North shares more in this moving tribute to her brother. { read more }

MNN: 17 dogs that really, really love sticks
Many dogs love sticks. For some, it’s the thrill of the chase when the stick is thrown. Others just like the satisfaction of gnawing on wood. And some just like carrying around their prize like a trophy. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that sticks look a lot like bones. What’s not to love?

EarthSky News: Snow Moon plus Regulus February 8 and 9
In North America, we often call the February full moon the Snow Moon or Hunger Moon. From around the world these next two nights – February 8 and 9, 2020 – the moon will appear plenty full to the eye as it lights up the eastern sky after sunset. On February 8, as dusk turns into darkness, watch for Regulus,,

Patheos-Pagan: The Spiritual Benefits Of Being A Hermit
Every winter, I turn into a modern-day hermit. It’s a practice I’ve come to accept about myself, even though it goes against the social norms and peer pressure to always be doing something. I’ve learned to make the most of these times, and I feel there are so many spiritual benefits to being a hermit.

Inner Journey:
MAKING LIFE OUR OWN
“Life is not lost by dying; life is lost minute by minute, day by dragging day, in all the thousand small uncaring ways.”
— Stephen Vincent Benet
What’s needed for a new relationship with time and life?
Intention — Get really clear about what you want.
Desire — How much do you want something new for yourself? Know your motivation. Desire brings the energy for change.
Belief and/or willingness to trust you can have what you want. If belief is lacking, can you believe in the possibility that you can find a new way of living?
Perseverance, discipline — It takes time and effort to change attitudes and habits. We can’t expect a new life overnight.
Acceptance, both of what’s happening now and of who we are. Until we honestly and openly accept our present situation, we cannot change it.
A willingness to try something new.
“It is so easy to waste our lives: our days, our hours, our minutes. … It is so easy to exist instead of live. Unless you know there is a clock ticking. So many of us changed our lives when we heard a biological clock and decided to have kids. But that sound is a murmur compared to the tolling of mortality.”

A Note from the Universe
You wouldn’t believe the stuff people think they want.
Just the other day someone was asking for a llama.
Nothing wrong with llamas, I have a few myself, but the llama he wants is supposed to help him with his business; schlepping stuff over mountains, they’re good for that.
Now, why do you suppose he didn’t just ask for a pickup truck?
Trust me, he could’ve asked for a pickup truck and he’d have been a lot happier.
So… I’m off to the bazaar. In the meantime, should you need anything, please be sure to ask for what you really want.
Tallyho,
The Universe

Today’s Recipe: Roasted Radishes Will Become Your New Favorite Vegetable With This Flavorful Recipe
Russians love radishes, from garden-variety red to pungent black, enjoying them not only fresh but also salted, marinated, or turned into savory preserves. I like simply to roast them. If you’ve never had cooked radishes before, you’ll be delighted. Though they retain some crunch, their flavor mellows, and the muted red of their skin is alluring.

Courage
“Fearlessness is the first requisite of spirituality.”
-Mohandas K. Gandhi (1869-1948)
The Course in Miracles says that basically everything can be divided up into two choices, fear or love. And ultimately, it is all just love because fear is really just the absence of love. So, if fearlessness is courage, then courage is love. Courage is strength. It’s the ability to call upon the strength and love that it inherent within each one of us, to bring it forth, to let it shine.

Daily Tarot: The Lovers
Relax, take a deep breath, and don’t let any feelings of anxiety derail your plans for the day. A certain level of nervousness may be in the air today but it doesn’t have to be contagious and you don’t have to catch it. If a touch of anxiety serves to give you a greater sense of caution, that can be a good thing.
