Daily Good: Finding Balance in an Unstable World

Only when our feet learn once again how to walk in a sacred manner, and our hearts hear the real music of creation, can we bring the world back into balance.

– Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee –

Finding Balance in an Unstable World

“The present pandemic, which in a few short months has wreaked havoc across our world, is most likely caused by an imbalance in the natural world, as loss of habitat and biodiversity is not only driving animals to extinction but directly causing animal viruses to spread to humans. In response our leaders are using the images of conflict: We are at war with Covid 19, we keep hearing; it is an invisible enemy we need to vanquish. But although this virus is disrupting our lives, causing sickness, death, and economic breakdown, it is itself a completely natural phenomenon, a living thing reproducing itself in the way nature intended. Are these images of conflict and conquest appropriate or even helpful? Do they help us to understand and to respond, to bring our world back into balance?” Sufi master Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee shares more on finding balance in an unstable world.{ read more }

EarthSky News: Peak Perseid mornings: August 11, 12, 13

The composite image above – from John Ashley at Glacier National Park in Montana, in 2016 – perfectly captures the feeling of standing outside as dawn is approaching, after a peak night of Perseid meteor-watching. As viewed from anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere, the Perseids’ radiant point is highest at dawn, and so the meteors rain down from overhead. In 2020, the moon may somewhat intrude on this shower.

Inner Journey:

“If you had a friend who talked to you like you sometimes talk to yourself, would you continue to hang around with that person?”
— Rob Bremer

Thanks to the power of our inner critics, most of us have a very poor opinion of ourselves. Yet self- contempt merely keeps us miserable and stuck in our mediocrity.

If we were to make only one change to transform the quality of our lives, we might try sending a little love our own way.

“A critic is a legless man who teaches running.”
— Channing Pollock

“Unkind criticism is never part of a meaningful critique of you. Its purpose is not to teach or to help, its purpose is to punish.”
— Barbara Sher

“You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.”
— Buddha

A Note from the Universe
In all my years as the Universe never once have I asked for anything in return of anyone, anywhere, ever.

And I think that’s a pretty good policy, no matter who I am. Don’t you?

Daily Wisdom
August 11, 2020

“What, to eternity, is a thousand years? Not so much as the blinking of an eye to the turning of the slowest of the spheres.”

Dante (A.D. 1265 – 1321)

A thousand years. Think of all the things that happen in what seems like this large amount of time. The changes that take place, the leaps and bounds made in progress, the contributions made by the people who lived during that time. And yet, some history books can sum up a century in a chapter of two! The more we move through time the more we have to write about. History may “repeat itself,” but we have something to learn from it each time. As we rack up the centuries, we have to wonder what the world will look like in a few more “blinks of an eye.

-Lissa Coffey
