Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth.
-Robert Frost (1874-1963)

Spirit Library: Trust in Yourself (a message from Kate Spreckley)

We must remember that the universe always works in perfect balance. When we place ourselves in its natural flow we move into a space of balance. However, before that occurs all that is out of balance within ourselves needs to be addressed. Circumstances in our lives are highlighting any imbalance creating a profound clearing and purging of the old.

Jafta and Katriena are not people who take pills – they prefer to rely on nature’s medicine. Even when he was a young boy, Jafta would visit the mountains to collect healing herbs. Now aged 84, he still cycles out to the mountains to hunt for herbs. He doesn’t sell these herbs, but shares with those around him when they are ill. He gives from the heart, not expecting anything in return. It is his calling.

Elephant Journal: Turnips, not Pumpkins: how to revive the True Spirit of Halloween.

More this year than any other, I have seen an increase of posts regarding pumpkin picking in the United Kingdom.
They talk of family fun days in farmyards, or rain-sodden, almost barren fields with some obligatory straw thrown around to give it an “authentic” autumnal, pumpkin patch feel.

Treehugger: How to Make Your Jack-O-Lantern Last Longer

Carved pumpkins are susceptible to rot, but there are ways to stave it off.

At this time of year, as the weather cools and the leaves start to fall, it is tempting to carve a pumpkin in preparation for Halloween. But carved pumpkins, unfortunately, do not last.

EarthSky News: Watch Capella flashing red and green

This evening, check out one of the flashiest stars in the sky. It’s so bright that every year in northern autumn, we get questions from people in the Northern Hemisphere who see a bright star twinkling with red and green flashes. It’s found low in the northeastern sky at nightfall or early evening as seen from mid-northern locations. That star is likely Capella, which is actually a golden star.

Patheos-Pagan: Cailleach – Winter Goddess

Here, in the Northern Hemisphere, it is Autumn. The days are getting shorter, the nights longer. It is also getting colder and wetter with each passing day, the leaves are turning shades of golden yellow, orange and red – and dropping.

Pagan Playlist: Yggdrasill – Viking Pagan Folk Song (Lyrics Old Norse & English)

“My soul is the bridge between spirit and body and, as such, is a uniter of opposites. …Without soul at center, I would either transcend into spirit or become mired in matter.”
— Marion Woodman

Ram Dass talks of how his first spiritual goal was to be rid of his physical existence. He came to understand, though, that our spirituality lies in bringing higher consciousness to our world of form. When we can do so, we can delight in all aspects of creation.

Soul exists in the balance of spirit and matter. For a soulful life, we pay attention to both, seeing spiritual qualities in material forms. As our awareness grows, we begin to use consciousness to influence and create form. It’s through form that our spirit expresses.

“Walk in balance with one foot in your spiritual understanding and one foot in your physical world of accomplishment.”
— Lynn V. Andrews

A Note from the Universe

One of the most stringent conditions all angels must meet, other than double-advanced harp playing and skydiving abilities (not necessarily at the same time), is that they must not allow themselves to feel hurt or rejected by the choices made by others, no matter how much they’ve done for them nor how great their love.

Yeah, WOW.

Wow, wow –

Today’s Recipe: Caramel Macchiato Banana Bread

Baking banana bread is one of my favorites, and I love nothing more than enjoying a slice with a nice cup of coffee. This was the inspiration for my recipe, which features a coffee infused loaf and a rich caramel glaze.

Daily Wisdom
October 23, 2020

“When you’re making a movie, you can’t think anybody will ever see it. You’ve just got to make a movie for the values it has. The greatest films were made because someone really wanted to make them. And, hopefully, the audience will show up, too.”

-Clint Eastwood

I am a huge movie fan! I go to see lots of different types of movies, not just the big blockbusters. It is really an incredible art form, to tell a story with words and pictures, to evoke emotion, to entertain. There is a movie that is now on DVD called “What the Bleep Do We Know?” This is definitely not your standard action-adventure flick, though it is filled with lots of action and adventure. It’s about Life! It’s about Consciousness. What got me is that so many of the concepts in the film are really big concepts, and somehow the filmmakers managed to present them in such a way that the audience is just riveted. It’s part documentary, part story, part animation, and totally worthwhile. It’s clear that the filmmakers felt that this was an important movie to make, and that’s why they did it. Not to sell tickets, or get this huge box-office, but to express what they felt were important things for people to talk about. This is a great way to live our lives, to be in our “dharma” – do what you need to do, what you feel is important to do, not for the applause, or the critics, or the money, and see what happens.

Daily Tarot: The Hermit

It might be a busy day, but try to make some time for yourself. Any time you spend meditating or settling your mind will be time well spent. It doesn’t have to be spent sitting around and being idle all day. Staring pensively into that cup of tea for a few moments can be equally beneficial. Calm your mind, and your heart, and make it an at-peace day.
