Daily Good: Deepening Our Comfort With Uncertainty

Deep trust in life is not a feeling but a stance that you deliberately take. It is the attitude we call courage.

Br. David Steindl-Rast –

Deepening Our Comfort With Uncertainty

“In our daily lives, there are endless forms of uncertainty far more things we cannot know than know. Objectively, this could be cause for great delight, wonder, and surrender. We could be relieved and appreciative that we do not have to perpetually hold onto the steering wheel, captain the ship, drive our lives. There is much to discover that can surprise us, so much to which we can gratefully yield, so much permission to let go of our need to know or control what will happen. And yet when we experience the presence of true uncertainty in our lives, it can be rattling. It goes against the conditioning most of us have internalized that not knowing is threatening that it must be hidden or overridden, solved or resolved, as quickly as possible.” Kristi Nelson shares more in this piece that resonates richly with our times

EarthSky News: Last quarter moon on November 8

The moon you’ll see on the morning of November 8, 2020 will be at or near its last quarter phase. No matter where you are on Earth – as dawn breaks – it’ll be close to its high point on your local meridian – the imaginary semicircle that crosses your sky from due north to due south. Incidentally, the sun transits or crosses your local meridian at solar noon (sometimes called midday, high noon or local apparent noon).

Inner Journey: WE CAN’T ESCAPE

“Most of our obstacles would melt away if, instead of cowering before them, we should make up our minds to walk boldly through them.”
— Orison Swett Marden

We can’t escape problems and negativity. Escaping just brings denial and suppression – we continue to carry the problem with us. Ironically, it is our lack of acceptance and resistance to the problem that creates the pain. Resistance builds up an energywall or block that, if not discharged, gets suppressed into the body. These blocks identify places where we have not enough understanding or love.

For health, we must work through what we seek to avoid. How do we do this? We can love parts of ourselves that we don’t like. We can seek the lessons we are being invited to learn through the problem. We can examine our beliefs and seek to see differentperspectives and a bigger picture. As our perspectives grow, more of life makes sense and has meaning.

“The Lord is a good psychologist: he knows the way our minds run. Turmoil can be the Lord’s way of tapping us on the shoulder and saying, ‘Don’t forget me.'”
— Eknath Easwaran

A Note from the Universe

While a child attending kindergarten cannot fully comprehend all the priceless reasons they are there — to socialize, make friends, grow, and prepare for ever higher realms of awareness — by that age they can, nevertheless, sense and grasp that their wise and doting parents have kept their very best interests in mind, and that is enough. Because with this awareness, they can at least stop trying to figure everything out and simply enjoy their hand painting, alphabet lessons, and cat-naps. Knowing that even if they break a crayon or some lad pulls a chair out from under them, they’re still exactly where they should be, everything is going to turn out just grand, and everyone back home is as proud as can be.

And oh my goodness, Cat, we are so proud of you.

Do I “over-dote”?

Emotion
“Those who don’t know how to weep with their whole heart don’t know how to laugh either.”

-Golda Meir, 1973

Emotions are meant to be expressed. We can’t bottle them up inside or we will do damage to ourselves. Of course, we need to express our emotions in a healthy way – no going off throwing chairs as a way to express anger! And as we mature spiritually we are more and more comfortable with expressing our emotions in appropriate and positive ways.

EarthSky News: Watch Capella flashing red and green

This evening, check out one of the flashiest stars in the sky. It’s so bright that every year in northern autumn, we get questions from people in the Northern Hemisphere who see a bright star twinkling with red and green flashes. It’s found low in the northeastern sky at nightfall or early evening as seen from mid-northern locations. That star is likely Capella, which is actually a golden star.

Inner Journey: IT’S A MATTER OF BALANCE.

“My soul is the bridge between spirit and body and, as such, is a uniter of opposites. …Without soul at center, I would either transcend into spirit or become mired in matter.”
— Marion Woodman

Ram Dass talks of how his first spiritual goal was to be rid of his physical existence. He came to understand, though, that our spirituality lies in bringing higher consciousness to our world of form. When we can do so, we can delight in all aspects of creation.

Soul exists in the balance of spirit and matter. For a soulful life, we pay attention to both, seeing spiritual qualities in material forms. As our awareness grows, we begin to use consciousness to influence and create form. It’s through form that our spirit expresses.

“Walk in balance with one foot in your spiritual understanding and one foot in your physical world of accomplishment.”
— Lynn V. Andrews

Films
“When you’re making a movie, you can’t think anybody will ever see it. You’ve just got to make a movie for the values it has. The greatest films were made because someone really wanted to make them. And, hopefully, the audience will show up, too.”

-Clint Eastwood

I am a huge movie fan! I go to see lots of different types of movies, not just the big blockbusters. It is really an incredible art form, to tell a story with words and pictures, to evoke emotion, to entertain. There is a movie that is now on DVD called “What the Bleep Do We Know?” This is definitely not your standard action-adventure flick, though it is filled with lots of action and adventure. It’s about Life! It’s about Consciousness. What got me is that so many of the concepts in the film are really big concepts, and somehow the filmmakers managed to present them in such a way that the audience is just riveted. It’s part documentary, part story, part animation, and totally worthwhile. It’s clear that the filmmakers felt that this was an important movie to make, and that’s why they did it. Not to sell tickets, or get this huge box-office, but to express what they felt were important things for people to talk about. This is a great way to live our lives, to be in our “dharma” – do what you need to do, what you feel is important to do, not for the applause, or the critics, or the money, and see what happens.

Daily Tarot: The Hermit

It might be a busy day, but try to make some time for yourself. Any time you spend meditating or settling your mind will be time well spent. It doesn’t have to be spent sitting around and being idle all day. Staring pensively into that cup of tea for a few moments can be equally beneficial. Calm your mind, and your heart, and make it an at-peace day.
