Don’t let anyone tell you there’s only one way to make your BOS, because you should use what works best for you!

Inner Journey:

CO-CREATION

“[Manifestation is] the art of fashioning a co- creative, synchronistic, and mutually supportive relationship between the inner creative energies of a person’s own mind and spirit and their counterpart within the larger world in order to bring a new and desirable situation into being.”
— David Spangler

I have always understood that Spirit works through us. Only recently have I really come to appreciate how Spirit works WITH us. The divine life force partners with our unique perspective, our passion and our skills to create new life situations.

We are not passive vessels for God’s will. To realize our highest potential, we must co-create with the divine.

“We must see ourselves as co-manifestors — partners in manifestation — all engaged in the primal act of unfoldment and emergence. Each act of manifestation may be directed toward a specific outcome, but it also contributes to the greater manifestation of the wholeness, love, compassion, and creativity of the primal source from which we all come.”

Leisure

“He enjoys true leisure who has time to improve his soul’s estate.”

-Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862)

Spiritually, we know that there is no such thing as time. And yet, here we are, living this existence, and we have these constraints to deal with. There is only so much time, so many hours in a day, so many vacation days in a year. So, how do we spend our time? And more importantly, how do we spend our precious leisure time? If we take Thoreau’s advice, we spend that time in spiritual pursuits, and then we understand how wonderful leisure can really be.

Herbal Muse: Elegant Lady: Queen Anne’s Lace

Queen Anne’s lace (Daucus carota) is a member of the Apiaceae (formerly Umbelliferae) family, which includes celery, angelica, dill, parsley, carrot and many other flowering plants known for their umbrella-like flowerheads and feathery foliage. It is known as Queen Anne’s lace primarily in North America and by several other common names elsewhere, such as bird’s nest, bishop’s lace and wild carrot. Its royal moniker reputedly arose when the 18th century monarch, Queen Anne of England, pricked her finger and spilled a drop of blood onto the white lace she was darning, representing the tiny, solo reddish-purple flower visible at the center of the umbrel.

Inner Journey:

TIME TO CHANGE DIRECTION?

“Employ the power of positive quitting. Most of us view quitting as something negative, but it’s not. ‘Winners never quit,’ we’re told, when, in reality, winners quit all the time: choosing to stop doing things that aren’t creating the results they desire. When you quit all the things that aren’t working for you, when you quit tolerating all the negative things that hold you back, you’ll create a positive ‘charge’ in your life as well as create the space in your life for more positive experiences.”
— Jim Allen

“I like thinking of possibilities. At any time, an entirely new possibility is liable to come along and spin you off in an entirely new direction. The trick, I’ve learned, is to be awake to the moment.”
— Doug Hall

“Persons and societies do not submit passively to surroundings and events. They make choices as to the places where they live and the activities in which they engage — choices based on what they want to be, to do and to become. Furthermore, persons and societies often change their goals and ways; they can even retrace their steps and start in a new direction if they believe they are on a wrong course. Thus, whereas animal life is prisoner of biological evolution which is essentially irreversible, human life has the wonderful freedom of social evolution which is rapidly reversible and creative. Wherever human beings are concerned, trend is not destiny.”

Leisure

“Leisure is the mother of Philosophy.”

-Thomas Hobbes (1588-1679)

Remember the “Leisure Suits” that were so popular in the 70’s? As if we needed the appropriate attire to lounge around in… It seems funny now, but it was so stylin’ then! But maybe the real point was that we didn’t necessarily need the suits, but we did, and do, need the leisure. In some strange way, that was brought to our attention. It might benefit us psychologically to “suit up” – whether it’s in our yoga pants or in our pajamas, to spend some time down time, some time to clear our minds so that we can open our minds to deep thought.

Thought For The Day: August 27, 2019 “No Change”

Happy Tuesday,

Change is a funny thing. Through making changes we strive to make things better for ourselves and others. However, there are just some things and people that resist our attempts. Remember that you simply can’t force change to happen. This is especially true of people who are often not ready to change or simply refuse. This is where courage comes in. By continually struggling with what we can’t change or control we can cause harm and stress to ourselves and others. Be courageous when it comes time to accept and let go for your own peace of mind.

Inner Journey:

WHAT DO YOU FEED YOUR MIND?

“I then remembered why I avoid the ‘news,’ if that’s what you want to call it. Our ‘news’ is a misnomer, and it’s more like ‘the ongoing train wreck you can tune in to at any time when you want to divert yourself from your purpose and your happiness… lose your faith in humanity… and go from feeling like things are pretty good to feeling like the world is going to sh*t and why bother going on, I mean really?'”
— Ali Brown

Our beliefs create our reality. If we wish to live happy, healthy lives, it’s vital that we feed our minds healthy, nourishing material. The negative, sensational focus of today’s ‘news’ media hardly serves to enlighten us about the true state of the planet. Let’s open to our limitless potential by keeping our focus firmly on what uplifts us.

“The world is not dying. It’s not falling apart. It’s changing. I personally believe that pessimism is an indulgence, despair an insult to the imagination. There are wonderfully positive things out there.”

Leisure

“Nothing excellent can be done without leisure.”

-Andre Gide (1869-1951)

One of my favorite quotes is from Emerson who said: “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” There seems to be a magic formula for success and excellence. We need down-time and a good attitude! This leisure time lets us clear our minds and think more efficiently. It helps us keep things in perspective. Haven’t we all had the experience where we’re working so hard, struggling to solve a problem and the answer is just not coming to us? And then, we take some time off and do something else and the answer just pops into our head! There is a purpose to this, and it is divine!

We take each other for granted.
We treat each other as random beings.

But how much would our relationships change and evolve if we shifted our perspective and saw those we cross paths with as nothing less than magic?

MNN: Why we should all embrace the sweet art of ‘doing nothing’

A very long time ago, someone without any friends, who people crossed the street to avoid and probably worked himself to death said, “The devil makes work for idle hands to do.”
And, unfortunately, for many of us, those words stuck. And so sloth became a deadly sin. If we can’t be busy all the time, at least, let’s make it appear that way so the devil doesn’t get any ideas

EarthSky News: Moon and Winter Circle at dawn August 25

Although it’s summer in the Northern Hemisphere, a major sign of winter now looms large in the August predawn/dawn sky. These next few mornings – August 25 and 26, 2019 – the waning crescent moon shines right in front of the great big lasso of stars known as the Winter Circle.

Inner Journey:

ARE YOU SERVING?

“You may be good, but what are you good for? You’ve got to be good for something. You’ve got to be about some project, some task that requires you to be humble and obedient to the universal principles of service.”
— Stephen R. Covey

“We had to learn ourselves, and furthermore we had to teach the despairing men, that it did not matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life but instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life, daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for the individual.”
— Victor Frankl

“If you think you’re too small to have an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito in the room.”
— Anita Roddick

A Note from the Universe

What if today was your day? The most amazing day of your life, so far? A day that would change everything for the better? What’s already good would become great. What’s already great would become amazing. And what’s already amazing would become the stuff of legends.

And all you had to do to take advantage of the good and wonderful things about to happen for you, was treat folks with a true and eager kindness, think mostly of those things that please you, and go out in the world, just a bit, where you could meet, and mingle, and fall in love?

How much would you be clucking right now?

Beam, gush, preen! You got it…

Today’s Recipe: Zesty Lime Cheesecake Bars

I love the addition of lime juice and zest to these cheesecake bars because they bring some zing to the creaminess. The graham cracker crust has some added cinnamon to really give it a nice dimension. This is an excellent dessert for barbecues and picnics when you want something decadent like cheesecake, without the need of forks and plates. Enjoy

Paradoxes

“There is a Law of Reversed Effort. The harder we try with the conscious will to do something, the less we shall succeed. Proficiency and the results of proficiency come only to those who have learned the paradoxical art of doing and not doing, or combining relaxation with activity, of letting go as a person in order that the immanent and transcendent Unknown Quantity may take hold. We cannot make ourselves understand; the most we can do is to foster a state of mind, in which understanding may come to us.”

Thought For the Day: August 23, 2019 “Constant Drama”

Happy Friday,

Drama, whether it’s your own or someone else’s, can be difficult to steer clear of and we often find ourselves caught up in it. It seems to be human nature to spew our garbage all over those around us. If you are constantly caught up in one drama or another it’s time to take a good look at the things and people who are creating it. Is it time to let go of someone or something? Is it worth your time and energy in the drama or is it time to focus on something else? You always have a choice.

Japa malas, often simply called mala beads, is a string of beads for counting repeated prayers, mantras, divine names or affirmations. It’s very much like to a Catholic rosary. The Buddhist or Hindu mala has 108 beads, plus a tasseled “guru” bead, the bead that starts and ends the repetitions. Some also have three “spacer” beads for conveniently dividing the recitations.

Unless you’re a night owl, you probably won’t see the moon and the constellation Taurus the Bull climbing up into your sky before your bedtime. Your best view will be before dawn, or before the beginning of astronomical twilight, on August 23, 24 and 25. That’s because the moon and Taurus climb highest up just before daybreak.

Inner Journey:

BE TRUE TO YOURSELF

“In the final analysis, we count for something only because of the essential we embody, and if we do not embody that, life is wasted.”
— C.G. Jung

Where are you not being true to yourself?

All blocks arise when we’re not being authentic, when we’re not being true to ourselves. We know we’re not being authentic when we feel discomfort of any kind.

When our thoughts, feelings and actions align with our essence, we express the qualities of soul. Always trust that your soul knows what’s best for you.

Believe in yourself and act on your ideas. Give yourself permission to do what you want with your life. Take the initiative to set meaningful goals for yourself and achieve them. Begin to tell yourself why you CAN have what you want!

“A true knowledge of ourselves is knowledge of our power.”
— Mark Rutherford

Paradoxes

“Almost anything you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it.”

-Mohandas K. Gandhi (1869-1948)

If you look at the universe from the beginning of time – (and yet was there a beginning?) until as far as we can imagine into the future – each little action we take may be considered insignificant. And yet, it’s not. Every action we take has some impact on our spiritual growth. It might seem like little tiny baby steps when we’re wanting to take great leaps and bounds- but each step, large or small, is significant nonetheless. We’ve got to keep going
