Inner Journey:

REMEMBER YOUR SPIRITUAL SIDE

“The function of prayer is not to influence God, but rather to change the nature of the one who prays.”
— Soren Kierkegaard

Reminding ourselves often of our spiritual natures truly changes the quality of our lives. It helps us relax, slow down, lighten up, and generally find more space and joy in life.

When we get down on ourselves or life, we can pull back and ask, “How might my soul regard this situation? What am I being invited to experience?”

This shift in perspective helps us let go of the resistance that always comes with negativity. As energy once again begins to flow, our outlook brightens.

“Spirituality is the sacred center out of which all life comes, including Mondays and Tuesdays and rainy Saturday afternoons in all their mundane and glorious detail. … The spiritual journey is the soul’s life commingling with ordinary life.”
— Christina Baldwin

“It is not my business to think about myself. My business is to think about God. It is for God to think about me.”

Helping
“Believe, when you are most unhappy, that there is something for you to do in the world. So long as you can sweeten another’s pain, life is not in vain.”

-Helen Keller

A basic human need is to feel needed. When we are feeling unhappy, we can step outside of ourselves and do something to help someone else. Once we see the effect that our actions have in the world, how our helping does some good, we are reminded how much we truly are needed. We are here for a reason. There are so many things we can do to help, we just have to get out there and do them

Herbal Muse: Elegant Lady: Queen Anne’s Lace

Queen Anne’s lace (Daucus carota) is a member of the Apiaceae (formerly Umbelliferae) family, which includes celery, angelica, dill, parsley, carrot and many other flowering plants known for their umbrella-like flowerheads and feathery foliage. It is known as Queen Anne’s lace primarily in North America and by several other common names elsewhere, such as bird’s nest, bishop’s lace and wild carrot. Its royal moniker reputedly arose when the 18th century monarch, Queen Anne of England, pricked her finger and spilled a drop of blood onto the white lace she was darning, representing the tiny, solo reddish-purple flower visible at the center of the umbrel.

Inner Journey:

TIME TO CHANGE DIRECTION?

“Employ the power of positive quitting. Most of us view quitting as something negative, but it’s not. ‘Winners never quit,’ we’re told, when, in reality, winners quit all the time: choosing to stop doing things that aren’t creating the results they desire. When you quit all the things that aren’t working for you, when you quit tolerating all the negative things that hold you back, you’ll create a positive ‘charge’ in your life as well as create the space in your life for more positive experiences.”
— Jim Allen

“I like thinking of possibilities. At any time, an entirely new possibility is liable to come along and spin you off in an entirely new direction. The trick, I’ve learned, is to be awake to the moment.”
— Doug Hall

“Persons and societies do not submit passively to surroundings and events. They make choices as to the places where they live and the activities in which they engage — choices based on what they want to be, to do and to become. Furthermore, persons and societies often change their goals and ways; they can even retrace their steps and start in a new direction if they believe they are on a wrong course. Thus, whereas animal life is prisoner of biological evolution which is essentially irreversible, human life has the wonderful freedom of social evolution which is rapidly reversible and creative. Wherever human beings are concerned, trend is not destiny.”

Leisure

“Leisure is the mother of Philosophy.”

-Thomas Hobbes (1588-1679)

Remember the “Leisure Suits” that were so popular in the 70’s? As if we needed the appropriate attire to lounge around in… It seems funny now, but it was so stylin’ then! But maybe the real point was that we didn’t necessarily need the suits, but we did, and do, need the leisure. In some strange way, that was brought to our attention. It might benefit us psychologically to “suit up” – whether it’s in our yoga pants or in our pajamas, to spend some time down time, some time to clear our minds so that we can open our minds to deep thought.

Tonight at work I was determined to learn something new in the realm of positivity. While tumbling all over Tumblr, I saw Happy Buddha and decided to google him. I’ve always had a thing for the happy chubby statues but I didn’t know much about them – or that there was so much to know.

My googling adventure started simple with a visit to wikipedia to learn the difference between him and the founder of buddhism – Gautama Buddha- and why he was so dang cheerful. My mind was blown by the hidden meanings within each statue. Before I knew it I was learning the exact position in the house your little figurine should be placed. “The affairs of the world will go on forever. Do not delay the practice of meditation.”
— Milarepa

In our busy schedules, we can often complain that we don’t have time to meditate. But if we are sincere in our desire to go inside, we can create our own moments of stillness in the midst of our activity.

Stopped at a traffic light? Do some deep breathing. Waiting in line at the bank or grocery store? Repeat an uplifting word such as ‘love’ or ‘peace.’ Riding the bus to and from work? Value these times as an opportunity to close your eyes and go within orto say a little prayer.

“Wherever you go in the midst of movement and activity, carry your stillness within you. Then the chaotic movement around you will never overshadow your access to the reservoir of creativity, the field of pure potentiality.”
— Deepak Chopra

Daily Tarot: The Lovers

The world may seem to be working overtime to baffle or confuse you, but you don’t have to take the bait. If you’re offered something that seems too perfectly tailored to your tastes or desires, it’s OK to be graciously skeptical. You can appear cautious rather than distrustful. Keep things simple today and minimize getting upset by torn or unsettled feelings.

We hear time and time again that good luck is all about hard work. But isn’t life like that, too? We get out of it what we put into it.

MBG: Plastic Pollution In The Ocean Sucks — But There’s A Movement Brewing To Use It Up

Last week, nearly 1,000 people gathered for an evening 5k around NYC’s West Side Highway—but the starting line wasn’t abuzz with typical runners’ talk of pacing or playlists. Instead, a chant of “Run for the oceans” erupted from the crowd.

Daily Good:  Circles of Time

In the Northern (and Southern) hemispheres, time is marked by seasonal changes, but in the forests of Bali the processes of growth and decay proceed at different rates all over the forest, all the time. According to Balinese theory, each living being moves on its own time scheme, and events occur when these touch, when things or creatures interact with one another. This view of time as applied to human life and the process of aging differs enormously from that of the West. Learn more here about the Balinese Middle World

Spirituality & Health: 5 Reasons to Eat Lentils
Lentils have been gathered and eaten for about 60,000 years, and farmed for 10,000 years, making them one of the world’s oldest food sources. They are technically an edible pulse in the legume family that grows on a bushy plant. But I never quite know what to do with them

Inner Journey:

IT’S OKAY TO DREAM!

“Don’t discard your fantasies as merely wishful thinking. Honor them as messages from the deepest part of your being about what you can do and directions you can choose.”
— Sanaya Roman and Duane Packer

What are your deepest heart-felt desires, dreams and visions?

Our deepest desires and dreams align with the essence of who we are. The more we align with that essence, the more our life holds meaning, purpose and fulfilment. Do you have a sense of your destiny?

“Dreams are renewable. No matter what our age or condition, there are still untapped possibilities within us and new beauty waiting to be born.”
— Dale E. Turner

“Everybody builds a dream in their lifetime. You’re either going to build your dream, or somebody else’s. So build your own!”

Simplicity

“Manifest plainness,
Embrace simplicity,
Reduce selfishness,
Have few desires.”

-Lao-tzu, The Way of Life

Another word for simple is “easy.” With ease, doesn’t that sound like a great way to live life? It’s our choice. We’re the ones who have been complicating our lives. Look at what’s really important. Sort things out, give yourself the space to see what is really there. You’ll be surprised at just how perfect “simple” really is.
