Inner Journey: DO YOU BELIEVE IN YOURSELF?

“We cannot rise higher than our thought of ourselves.”
— Orison Swett Marden

What do you believe about yourself?

If you are experiencing a lack of something in your life, chances are that you hold a belief in your subconscious that says you aren’t worthy of having that quality. Write in your journal the answer to these questions for yourself:
• Where are you not good enough, not worthy enough?
• How willing are you to receive?

“We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit.”

Genius
“You may have heard people repeat what I have said, ‘Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration.’ Yes, sir, it’s mostly hard work.”

-Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931)

Often we associate genius with intelligence. But according to Edison, it is much more than that. There are a lot of really smart people in this world – but how many of them really channel that intelligence into something bigger than themselves? How many can say that they have worked so hard that their efforts have created something that benefits all of mankind? These are the true geniuses.

Personality
“Personality can never develop unless the individual chooses his own way, consciously and with moral deliberation.”

-Carl G. Jung (1875-1961)

There comes a time when we must grow up. Age dictates a lot of what goes on with us physically. Society says when we are “legally” adults. But our personalities can emerge at any time. As we learn, we are gathering tools which will hopefully bring us to spiritual maturity, where we understand who we are, and what we have to share with the world.

Daily Good: Mother Culture

“How does a whale find meaning in life? The question that will take us far from our comfort zone. At eight a.m. we are already traveling over deep ocean. Our thirty-foot boat, an open one, is crowded with gear, four assistants who traffic in curiosity and adventure, our huge dreadlocked Caribbean captain Dave Fabien, plus Shane Gero. Plus me. We seek a classic sea monster: the sperm whale, Jonah-slurping Leviathan of the Bible, catastrophic smasher of the ship Essex, Ahab-maddening table-turning star quarry of Moby-Dick. In myth, real life, and fiction, this is the whale that looms largest in our psyches. To that almost-never-glimpsed being, so famed for rage, the world’s largest creature with teeth we now seek the closest possible approach. For the next several weeks I hope, with Shane’s tutelage, to narrow the gap between us.” Carl Safina shares more in this piece. { read more }

Inner Journey:

APPLY WHAT YOU KNOW

“Knowledge of any kind … brings about a change in awareness from where it is possible to create new realities.”
— Deepak Chopra

As we evolve, we handle knowledge in different ways. We tend to move through these stages:
• We are unaware.
• We become aware of facts, data, information.
• We comprehend meaning from the facts.
• We can personally apply the information in our lives.
• We have wisdom – enlightened, we can lovingly apply our knowledge to world affairs.
• We live in truth.

How have you personally experienced a shifting of applying knowledge from one level to the next?

“More important than finding the teacher is finding and following the truth of the teaching….”
— Sogyal Rinpoche

“There can be no knowledge without emotion. We may be aware of a truth, yet until we have felt its force, it is not ours. To the cognition of the brain must be added the experience of the soul.”
— Arnold Bennett

A Note from the Universe
Well, enlightenment is kind of like flying for the first time without wings.

Of course, there’s the exhilaration, the happiness, and the intoxicating sense of freedom that’s almost indescribable.

But there’s also the subtle shock at what you now see as the inevitability of your accomplishment. The wonderment of how you hadn’t seen this so clearly before, mingled with acceptance. And the dim recognition that it’s part of some distant agreement you once made.

And, at last, as you come to your senses and finally think to gaze below, upon the tiny jewel you’ve called home for so long, you’re struck with a jolt as you see it so magically and effortlessly suspended—floating—in space, and realize, for the first time, that even there you were flying all along.

You soar,
