Our seasons have no fixed returns,
Without our will they come and go;
At noon our sudden summer burns,
Ere sunset all is snow.
-James Russell Lowell (1819-91)

Spirit Library: March 2019 – April 2026 Uranus in Taurus – Thinking Outside a Broken Box

Uranus enters Taurus on 6th March 2019 (UT). The planet of radical disruption, unpredictable events and liberating discontinuity in the zodiac sign known for its stubborn resistance to change promises to keep us all on our toes! Since May 2010 when Uranus first entered Aries, there’s been a certain amount of leeway available for the more impulsive among us

Elephant Journal: Is “Maitri” really about Self-Care? ~ Linda Lewis

There’s much confusion these days about the term “maitri,” a Sanskrit term meaning “loving-kindness.”
You often hear people say things like, “I just want to stay home and hibernate, stressless, and not relate. I need a little maitri in my life.”
While there’s nothing wrong with just staying home sometimes, the idea of self-care is not necessarily the Buddhist view of maitri.

MNN: Rare ‘elixir of immortality’ recovered from ancient Chinese tomb

A mysterious liquid discovered in a 2,000-year-old Chinese tomb has been identified by archaeologists as an ancient medical concoction known as the “elixir of immortality.”
The 3.5 liters (0.9 gallons) of yellowish fluid, contained within a bronze pot uncovered last October, has the rich of scent of alcohol and was initially believed to be wine.

EarthSky News: Summer Triangle, signpost for all seasons

Tonight, look for the Summer Triangle. It’s not summer for our northern temperate latitudes, but the three brilliant stars of the Summer Triangle – Vega, Deneb and Altair – are out for at least part of the night every night of the year. Presently, the Summer Triangle shines in the eastern predawn sky. You can often see this star formation from light-polluted areas or on a moonlit night

Patheos-Pagan: Questioning my faith

As a Thelemite use the word faith differently than most people do. I don’t mean a belief that isn’t backed by science. That kind of faith doesn’t work for me because I’m a scientific illuminist. Aleister Crowley described scientific Illuminism as “the method of science, the aim of religion”.

Inner Journey:

“The ultimate value of life depends upon awareness and the power of contemplation rather than upon mere survival.”
— Aristotle

INSIGHTS happen only when we shift to a higher, more inclusive perspective. As we grow in wisdom and experience, we become less attached to the form of reality and more aware of its spiritual side – its qualities, values and meaning. As we get to know ourselves as souls, we begin to let go of the self-consciousness of the ego. This allows us to more effectively include others and work with the whole picture.

When there is more in sight, we get more insights.

Try becoming aware of those times when you focus on differences. At those times, STOP and PAY ATTENTION and IDENTIFY SIMILARITIES INSTEAD. See how all parts fit into a bigger picture. Expand your perspectives. Find common causes, motives and needs. Go to another level of thinking and problem solving. Be open to using more imagination and creativity. Shift your thinking from “either/or” to “both/and” and be prepared for more insights.

“Insight occurs when, and to the degree that, one knows oneself.”
— Andrew Schneider

“We are not what we know. We are what we are willing to learn.”
— Council on Ideas

Daily Wisdom
March 6, 2019

“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experiences of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired and success achieved.”

-Helen Keller, 1938

Everything that we have gone through in our lives has come to shape our character. How we assimilate these experiences into our personality determines the strength of our character. Life is not easy – and it’s not boring! Every day offers us up opportunities to learn and grow and develop into the person we aspire to be.
