Senate honored Augustus Caesar, the first Roman emperor, by changing the name of their month “Sextilis” to “Augustus.” Middle English speakers inherited the name of the month of August, but it wasn’t until the mid-1600s that “august” came to be used generically in English, more or less as “augustus” was in Latin, to refer to someone with imperial qualities.

Spirit Library: Elevation & Expansion (a message from Kate Spreckley)

Soul embodiment is the ultimate purpose of this time. The physical vehicle is the container of our soul and when the soul begins to anchor within the body everything shifts. Our energy field expands elevating our thoughts, emotions, and feelings. The Full Moon energies are currently expanding the energy of the soul within our human form and as a result, our focus this week will need to be on realigning and rebalancing our emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies with our physical body

Like most little kids, I used to love myths and legends.
I often daydreamed of fantasy worlds or was playing princess in a castle.

My favorite was when my parents read my sister and I bedtime stories. My parents had their own unique way of telling stories. My mum used it as a time for calming us down from the day. She would choose short stories with familiar characters and spoke gently allowing us to drift off into a nightmare-free sleep

EarthSky News: Andromeda Galaxy: All You Need To Know

The large spiral galaxy next door
Although several dozen minor galaxies lie closer to our home galaxy, the Milky Way, the Andromeda galaxy is the closest large spiral galaxy to ours. Let’s exclude, for a moment, the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, visible from Earth’s Southern Hemisphere. Besides them, the Andromeda galaxy is the brightest external galaxy you can see. At 2.5 million light-years, it’s also the most distant thing visible to your unaided eye.

Inner Journey:

CHOOSE DIFFERENTLY TODAY

“It is always your next move.”
— Napoleon Hill

The great benefit of heightened awareness is that we have more choice in how we live our lives. At any moment, we can purposefully choose a new experience for ourselves. We can choose to pay attention, breathe more deeply, laugh, rest, play, appreciate, do something different – the possibilities are endless.

Whenever you remember, TAKE YOURSELF OFF AUTO-PILOT and really examine your situation. Take charge and make a choice that will enrich your experience. At the end of the day, reflect on what happened and how you felt when you chose a new line of thought, feeling or action.

“We cannot tell what may happen to us in the strange medley of life. But we can decide what happens in us — how we can take it, what we do with it — and that is what really counts in the end.”
— Joseph Fort Newton

“When a defining moment comes along, you can do one of two things. Define the moment, or let the moment define you.”
— Tin Cup (the movie)

And remember: “If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.”
— Neil Peart

Eyes
“Eyes can speak and eyes can understand.”

-George Chapman (1559?-1634)

We can say so much without speaking a word. Emotions show on our face. Our eyes can’t lie. Experts who read body language say that so much is given away with the eyes. They have been called “the mirrors of the soul.” We can communicate with our loved ones with merely a look. Sometimes a look can speak volumes!

Daily Tarot: The Chariot

It may start out as an ordinary day but a situation may arise that uncovers talents that you had no clue you had. Be adaptable and be willing to say, “Yes, I’ll give that a try,” rather than automatically saying, “Well I’m not sure. I’ve never done that before.” Be positive, optimistic, and sure of yourself. It’s the perfect day to learn something useful and profitable as well as exciting.

Wise Woman Herbal: Living Generously, the Wise Woman Way

ThoughtCo:  Celebrating the Sacred Masculine

While many Pagan paths identify themselves as “goddess traditions,” there are just as many which honor the sacred masculine alongside the divine feminine. Rather than being goddess-centric, a tradition honoring the sacred masculine will put the god on an equal playing field with the goddess rather than identifying him as simply the divine consort.

Daily Good: The Understory: Life Beneath the Forest Floor

“The first time I heard anyone speak of the “wood wide web,” more than a decade ago now, I was trying not to cry. A beloved friend was dying too young and too quickly. I had gone to see him for what I took to be the last time. He was tired by pain and drugs. We sat together, talked. My friend was a woodsman. Trees grew through his life and thought. His grandfather’s surname was Wood, he lived in a timber-framed house that he had built himself, and he had planted thousands of trees by hand over the years. “I have sap in my veins,” he wrote once.” Excerpted from his recently published book, Underland: A Deep Time Journey, “The Understory” is an examination of the life beneath the forest floor. Encountering the depth and complexity of communication that happens underground, Robert Macfarlane returns to the entangled mutualism at the root of language. { read more }

Inner Journey:

WHAT’S ON YOUR HOT LIST?

“The indispensable first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: decide what you want.”
— Ben Stein

A Hot List is basically a to-do list with one key difference: it only includes topics or tasks that really matter to you, those that genuinely affect your quality of life. You know — the ones you never get around to! The ones that will make your life your own!

Keep a prioritized Hot List handy to remind you to claim 5 to 15 minutes to focus on and write about what counts in your life. Even 5 minutes is better than nothing. Start small and the momentum will build.

“You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage — pleasantly, smilingly, nonapologetically — to say ‘no’ to other things. And the way you do that is by having a bigger ‘yes’ burning inside.”
— Stephen Covey

Persistence

“When you get in a tight place and everything goes against you till it seems as though you could not hold on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the time and the place the tide will turn.”

-Harriet Beecher Stowe, 1847

I remember hearing an interview that Jay Leno did once. He was asked what he attributed his success to, and he didn’t even have to think about the answer for a second. “I didn’t go away!” he said. He explained that there were many comedians who he felt were as good, or better than he was, and they all worked the same clubs, the same circuits, so they got to be friendly. But he said the difference between him and these other guys was that he never gave up. Many of the other guys got worn out, or burnt out, or just plain tired and quit. But Jay loved what he was doing so much that he couldn’t quit. He kept going after his dream, even through some pretty bleak times. And now look at him! He could quit anytime he wanted to, because he has so much success that he doesn’t need the money. But he keeps going, because he loves it. And that makes all the difference.
