EarthSky News: Moon sweeps past Pleiades and Aldebaran March 1 and 2

On March 1 and 2, 2020 – in the west, after sunset – the moon shines in front of the constellation Taurus the Bull. Taurus has two major signposts: the ruddy star Aldebaran, marking the Eye of the Bull, and the Pleiades star cluster, which is shaped like a tiny, misty dipper of stars. Also on these evenings, the moon’s lit side points directly at the dazzling planet Venus, which sits closer to the sunset horizon.

HIGHER PERSPECTIVES

“Bias and impartiality is in the eye of the beholder.”
— Lord Barnett

According to Andrew Schneider, the radical difference between personality awareness and soul consciousness is a difference in perspectives. Acquiring a soul perspective allows us to see things differently – and we always see a more inclusive, universal picture. This expanded view adds to an understanding, enjoyment and appreciation of life.

If I insist on hanging on to a personality perspective that is contrary to a soul perspective, the two perspectives will clash. This challenges me to find a way through to a deeper truth than I previously knew. This kind of tension between soul and personality positions is typical of the prelude to transformation that is a vital part of the soul journey.

QUESTIONS THAT AREN’T HELPFUL

“We accept many notions because they seem to be the logical answers to our questions. But have we asked the right questions?”
— Harold L. Klawans

Sometimes we ask questions for which we really don’t want the answer! Nonetheless, when we ask a question, our subconscious minds will get to work to answer us.

Here are some examples of questions we want to avoid:
• What’s wrong with me?
• How long could this take?
• What could go wrong?
• How much trouble could it be?
• How hard could it be?

Asking questions can be empowering – as long as they’re smart questions!

“The uncreative mind can spot wrong answers, but it takes a very creative mind to spot wrong questions.”

How’d you like a little peek into the future? Oh, I really shouldn’t, but you so rock, I figure this indulgence, just once, will be all right.

You’re sitting around a warm and cozy fireplace surrounded by friends and boisterous laughter. Early-morning snow gently falling across the countryside is visible from the enormous, ceiling-high windows beside you. Everyone is sipping hot chocolate, and reminiscing about the fabulous circumstances that have brought you together, brimming with even more excitement for times to come. And then you chime in, “If only we knew how inevitable this all was, we never would have worried so much. If only we had the slightest inkling that our challenges, lacks, and issues would sooner make possible the whirlwind of events that swiftly followed… we’d have been as proud then, as we are now.”

And then everyone nods and laughs thoughtfully, and starts taking selfies.

Sharing

“Sharing what you have is more important than what you have.”

-Albert M. Wells, Jr.

Sharing is not limited to material things. We can share our memories, experiences, and knowledge for example. The beauty in this is that we aren’t giving those things away – we couldn’t if we tried! But they are so valuable, and they become even more valuable when we share them with other people. The most simple advice can be such a treasure. The fact that we are open and willing to share what we have learned can make this journey more beneficial for all of us.

“The first time I heard anyone speak of the “wood wide web,” more than a decade ago now, I was trying not to cry. A beloved friend was dying too young and too quickly. I had gone to see him for what I took to be the last time. He was tired by pain and drugs. We sat together, talked. My friend was a woodsman. Trees grew through his life and thought. His grandfather’s surname was Wood, he lived in a timber-framed house that he had built himself, and he had planted thousands of trees by hand over the years. “I have sap in my veins,” he wrote once.” Excerpted from his recently published book, Underland: A Deep Time Journey, “The Understory” is an examination of the life beneath the forest floor. WHAT’S ON YOUR HOT LIST?

“The indispensable first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: decide what you want.”
— Ben Stein

A Hot List is basically a to-do list with one key difference: it only includes topics or tasks that really matter to you, those that genuinely affect your quality of life. You know — the ones you never get around to! The ones that will make your life your own!

Keep a prioritized Hot List handy to remind you to claim 5 to 15 minutes to focus on and write about what counts in your life. Even 5 minutes is better than nothing. Start small and the momentum will build.

“You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage — pleasantly, smilingly, nonapologetically — to say ‘no’ to other things. And the way you do that is by having a bigger ‘yes’ burning inside.”

Persistence

“When you get in a tight place and everything goes against you till it seems as though you could not hold on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the time and the place the tide will turn.”

-Harriet Beecher Stowe, 1847

I remember hearing an interview that Jay Leno did once. He was asked what he attributed his success to, and he didn’t even have to think about the answer for a second. “I didn’t go away!” he said. He explained that there were many comedians who he felt were as good, or better than he was, and they all worked the same clubs, the same circuits, so they got to be friendly. But he said the difference between him and these other guys was that he never gave up. Many of the other guys got worn out, or burnt out, or just plain tired and quit. But Jay loved what he was doing so much that he couldn’t quit. He kept going after his dream, even through some pretty bleak times. And now look at him! He could quit anytime he wanted to, because he has so much success that he doesn’t need the money. But he keeps going, because he loves it. And that makes all the difference.

If you look at the cat animal totem as a guide, you can learn a lot about yourself by studying the symbolism of cats and their totemic powers. MBG: How To Say No & Still Maintain Your Relationships

As a society, we’ve finally started to embrace not going out on Saturday nights and forgoing dinner dates for Netflix and chill. Instead of feeling compelled to agree to every social gathering offered to us, people are feeling more empowered than ever to set their boundaries, stay in, and focus on themselves and what their minds, bodies, and souls really need. Saying no can be hard—but we know it’s an absolutely vital part of self-care

Tetraktys: Moon Magick: How to Follow the Lunar Cycle

Hello witches! This post is part of the “Types of Magick” blog series. This week, I decided to write about Moon Magick. So, this article will teach you how to use the lunar cycle to manifest your intentions and cast effective spells. First, I’ll describe the energy around each moon phase and how it has an impact on us. Second, I will show you how to manifest your intentions at the New Moon. Then, you will learn how to release, heal and say thanks during the Full Moon.

Elephant Journal: How I Stopped trying to Change my Body.

I recently found out that 91 percent of women are dissatisfied with their bodies.
91 percent.
That means that just about every woman you know wishes her body was different.

While body positivity is slowly taking hold, diet culture is still going strong.
For most of us, going from body negative to body positive doesn’t happen in one fell swoop. So how do we bridge the gap?

MNN: Why protecting this small slice of greenspace in Tennessee is a big deal

Sequatchie Cave State Natural Area, Tennessee — A royal snail is about the size of a match head. You could be standing in a few inches of water with lots of royal snails at your feet, look down, and not even see them.

“If it looks like a caterpillar turd but it starts moving, that’s a royal snail,” cracks David Withers, a zoologist with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.

EarthSky News: Moon lights up Gemini in early October

These next few days – October 2 and 3, 2018 – get up before daybreak to see the moon shining in front of the constellation Gemini the Twins. It’ll be fairly easy to see Gemini’s two brightest stars, Castor and Pollux, near the moon, but it’ll be quite a challenge to make out Cancer – the faintest constellation of the zodiac – to the east of Gemini. The moon will meet up with the constellation Cancer the Crab on October 4.

Patheos-Pagan: How to be ‘witchy’ enough

During this week, I had a moment when I was drenched in gratitude for no other reason that being a witch. It was one of those rare instances when consciousness altered, and my heart was brimming with thankfulness for the path I’ve chosen to take in this life. It didn’t happen in ritual or at a sacred site but in the kitchen. I think I was slicing green beans at the time.

Inner Journey:

THE POWER OF ACCEPTANCE

“It is permissible to take life’s blessings with both hands provided thou dost know thyself prepared in the opposite event to take them just as gladly. This applies to food and friends and kindred, to anything God gives and takes away… As long as God is satisfied do thou rest content. If he is pleased to want something else of thee, still rest content.”
— Meister Eckhart

Our life begins to change in magical ways when we open to the experience of life AS IT IS. With acceptance, we stop fighting what is happening. And this creates space, an opening for new relationships to unfold.

Explore unconditionally saying yes to the facts of life. Accept your past and where you are now. Unconditional acceptance is unconditional love and this is healing.

“Sometimes what seems like surrender isn’t surrender at all. It’s about what’s going on in our hearts. About seeing clearly the way life is and accepting it and being true to it, whatever the pain, because the pain of not being true to it is far, far greater.”
— Nicholas Evans

Today’s Recipe: Guacamole Deviled Eggs

This is hands down my favourite twist on deviled eggs. Instead of adding mayonnaise and vinegar, I add avocados and lime juice. Every bite is just so creamy and dreamy. Not to mention I love the green colour! If you’d like to make yours spicy, add half a minced seeded jalapeno.

Nature

“Nature is an endless combination and repetition of a very few laws. She hums the old well-known air through innumerable variations.”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)

Interesting that Emerson calls Nature “she.” Maybe because we think of Mother Nature. The idea, though, is that nature is something we can count on. As unpredictable as nature can be, we do know that the sun will rise, the seasons will change, that rivers will flow to the sea. There are these laws in effect that go beyond our powers of human manipulation. Nature is much bigger than we are, and yet, at the same time, it is an essential part of who we are. The same laws that govern nature affect us as well.

-Lissa Coffey
