Pagan Playlist: I See Fire (Celtic Woman)

“If you’re having difficulty coming up with new ideas, then slow down. For me, slowing down has been a tremendous source of creativity. It has allowed me to open up — to know that there’s life under the earth and that I have to let it come through me in a new way. Creativity exists in the present moment. You can’t find it anywhere else.”
— Natalie Goldberg

Feeling trapped in some way? Give yourself space. Space to do nothing but breathe. To intentionally relax those tight muscles. To just for a few precious minutes, let it all go.

The world will keep turning if you tune out for a short while. And your world will begin to recover its balance.

“It’s important to be heroic, ambitious, productive, efficient, creative, and progressive, but these qualities don’t necessarily nurture soul. The soul has different concerns, of equal value: downtime for reflection, conversation, and reverie; beauty that is captivating and pleasuring; relatedness to the environs and to people; and any animal’s rhythm of rest and activity.”
— Thomas Moore

“You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”

-Eleanor Roosevelt, 1960

This is the thing – it’s not that we cannot do it, it’s that we think we cannot do it. That is why we MUST do it. Sometimes we just have to prove to ourselves, to remind ourselves, that we can do anything we set our minds to. We are intelligent, capable, remarkable beings. What can you do? Anything!

MBG: The 5-Minute Breathing Exercise That’ll Keep You Grounded

It’s easy to get lost in the smaller cycles of existence—the alarm clock that sounds each morning, the daily grind, the commute to and from work. But when we let these habitual actions define our lives, we lose sight of everything that falls in between. Nature’s cycle through the seasons, on the other hand, does not lend itself to monotony. The earth tilts and turns toward the sun in a glorious rotation that manifests as warmer and cooler temperatures, brighter and duller colors, crisp air and cool rain..

Inner Journey:

“Since you are like no other being ever created since the beginning of time, you are incomparable.”
— Brenda Ueland

Great forces are directing you to conform to the patterns of your society. You have DNA that has been handed down from generation to generation, coding repeated behaviour patterns into your being. You have archetypal energies setting the standards for how you behave as a man or a woman, as husband or wife, as father or mother …. You are immersed in consensual reality, whereby the world around you reflects societal understanding of how life has been and is to be.

At the same time, you have an even greater force within you inspiring you to wake up and recognize the reality of who you are. This force, the creative power underlying the entire universe, is urging you to create brand new standards of reality.

The status quo is blind to our creative power. Create a brand new world for yourself, one that meets your deepest needs, and you will help raise the quality of consciousness of the entire world.

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”
— Gandhi

“Life is what happens to you
While you’re busy
Making other plans.”

-John Lennon (1940-1980)

We go about our lives trying really hard to keep everything in order, all the plates spinning: jobs, family, friends, community responsibilities, etc. But every once in awhile something happens that is beyond our reach, out of our control. Maybe someone we love gets sick, or we have a bad financial setback. Now our attention is elsewhere, and it seems that everything else gets out of balance, too. The truth is that we can’t control everything, and that we probably wouldn’t be any good at it if we could! But we can control our responses to these unexpected situations. We can use our problems as opportunities to learn and to grow. These are the times when we find that reserve of strength that was there all along. We discover more of who we really are, and what we’re really capable of.

-Lissa Coffey

Beliefnet: What is the Difference Between Reacting and Responding
Learn to respond instead of react.

Everyone has had those moments when they acted without thinking. A person’s child was running at the pool, and they fell and hit their head. The frightened parent starts yelling at the child. A coworker makes a teasing comment about how tired a person must be after hosting a family reunion. The person snaps something insulting back because they actually spent all weekend fighting with their father. A person comes home to find that their new puppy has chewed up the couch. They start screaming at the dog.
