We all have dreams and desires. Things we want to do or things we want to get away from. There are times when we are offered the chance to make changes in our lives we are too afraid to do so. We feel like it’s too much to handle or we are afraid to fail. The key lies in remembering that change happens whether we are ready for it or not. If we fight change it becomes stressful. But if we let go of that fear or set it aside we can meet change half way and work with it. Change = Growth and personal evolution is important to our overall well-being.

Inner Journey: VALUE JUST BEING
“To do great work a man must be very idle as well as very industrious.” — Samuel Butler
Many of us have been taught to believe that we are valued for what we do, not just for who we are. ‘Doing’ is important, but to keep life in balance, we also need time to just ‘be.’
Henry David Thoreau expressed this so well in Walden Pond:
“There were times when I could not afford to sacrifice the bloom of the present moment to any work, whether of the head or hand.
“Sometimes, on a summer morning, I sat in my sunny doorway from sunrise till noon, rapt in a revery, amidst the pines and hickories and sumacs, in undisturbed solitude and stillness, while the birds sang around or flitted noiseless through the house, until by the sun falling in at my west window, or the noise of some traveller’s wagon on the distant highway, I was reminded of the lapse of time.
“I grew in those seasons like corn in the night, and they were far better than any work of the hands would have been.”

Illusion “Belief in the absence of illusions is itself an illusion.”
-Barbara Grizzuti Harrison, 1992
What is real? What is illusion? These are two of the biggest questions we’re faced with in this lifetime. Especially today, when we have TV and “reality TV” – who is real and who is putting on a show? But one thing we know is that there are indeed illusions, and it’s just a matter of each one of us figuring out for ourselves what is real, what is important, what is ever-lasting.

Discovery “Most new discoveries are suddenly-seen things that were always there.”
-Susanne K. Langer, 1942
Whenever an explorer “discovered” a new land it wasn’t as if it just popped up in front of him or her. It was there, always, perhaps even waiting to be found and utilized. If we go down the same road everyday, we tend to become familiar with our surroundings, and after awhile we don’t bother to look anymore. And one day something catches our eye and we think: “wow, when did that change?” We don’t need to travel to exotic locales to learn new things. It’s amazing what we can discover right where we are.

Inner Journey: REAWAKEN YOUR CURIOSITY
“What a distressing contrast there is between the radiant intelligence of the child and the feeble mentality of the average adult.” — Sigmund Freud
Why is this so?
Young children possess what Zen calls ‘beginner’s mind.’ They are awed and fascinated with the wonder of the world, open to discovering and experiencing new things. Anything is possible. Life is a great adventure.
For almost all of us, the systems that ‘educate’ us to be adults stifle our natural joy and curiosity. We lose touch with our innate appreciation of life. We forget how to dream.
The blessing is that with attention, patience and love, we can reawaken our sense of wonder. We can again dance with life.

A Note from the Universe
It’s not from the known but the unknown, that creativity and inventiveness are born.
Turn away from the predictable, cliché, and reliable. Brave the void where the darkness is greatest. Trust the quiet, find the stillness, feel the calm. Then steadily think, speak, and move as if you were led. Behave as if your vision were clear.
Anticipate the emotional rush that will come with your triumph. And as if by magic, as you raise your pen to write, you’ll find the words have already been summoned, flooded in light that was there all along, in a world that has just as anxiously anticipated your arrival.
Just don’t let them worship you.
Tallyho,
The Universe

Discovery “Very often if happens that a discovery is made whilst working upon quite another problem.”
-Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931)
Sometimes if we are focused too intensely on a problem, we get caught up in it and can’t see the forest for the trees. This is when it is time to detach, to turn our attention to something else and let our minds do some re-shuffling without our stubborn influence. And then, sure enough, we get that “ah-ha!” moment, and a discovery is made!
