MBG: Practices To Help You Move Toward Your True Self (And Away From Ego)

Our ego is our attachment to identity and it serves one and one purpose only: to keep us safe. But for most of us, due to societal and generational conditioning, our reptilian brain has our ego running the show. With the ego in charge, we hold ourselves back in so many ways.

Daily Dream Meaning: Paris

The “City of Lights.” If you, in fact, live in Paris, the location of the dream has little meaning, but if you don’t, it’s quite significant.
1. Paris has for two millennia been considered a major center of culture and enlightenment for the entire Western world. To dream of being in Paris, strolling through the Louvre or the Musée d’Orsay or attending the Opéra, therefore, indicates a time of learning, cultural appreciation. Visiting the great Cathedrals such as Nôtre Dame or Sacre Coeur implies spiritual progress.
2. Paris is also considered one of the happiest cities in the world. Dreaming of visiting the clubs or artistes of Montmartre or the Latin Quarter indicates an increased social life and happy times ahead.

EarthSky News: Mercury’s greatest evening elongation around June 3-4

Mercury is to reach a milestone of sorts in the evening sky, as it reaches its greatest elongation (maximum angular distance) east of the sun (24 degrees) on June 4, 2020. Because Mercury is farthest east of the setting sun, that places Mercury in the western sky after sundown.

Inner Journey:

LOVE YOUR SHADOWS

“There is that part of ourselves that feels ugly, deformed, unacceptable. That part, above all, we must learn to cherish, embrace, and call by name.”
— Macrina Wiederkehr

Each of us has characteristics we define as good and those we define as ‘bad.’ The parts of ourselves that we continually reject want to be acknowledged and loved. Until we honour these aspects, they will continue to assert themselves. They will do whatever they can to get our attention.

What aspects of yourself do you reject?

Take a few moments to open to the parts of yourself that you do not love. See each one honestly for what it is. Explore the wounds and the motives that gave rise to its condition. Love a wounded part of yourself and it will heal.

“…self-contempt never inspires lasting change.”
— Jane R. Hirschmann and Carol H. Munter

“The first step toward change is acceptance. Once you accept yourself, you open the door to change. That’s all you have to do. Change is not something you do, it’s something you allow.”
— Will Garcia

A Note from the Universe

What happens when someone worries?

Basically, they think of 100 reasons why something might go wrong. And all of those thoughts then struggle to become things, sometimes overriding their more constructive thoughts.

That’s the power of worry.

Now, let’s say you want something fantastic to manifest in your life.

Hypothetically, let’s say you want a beautiful vacation home. (I know you.)

Have you closed your eyes yet and imagined 100 reasons why it might come to you easily, fast, and harmoniously?

I think you should.

Today works,

The Universe

Value
“Labor is the true standard of value.”

-Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865)

How much do we want something? How much is it worth to us? How hard are we willing to work for it? The more thought and effort we put into something, the more the universe picks up on our desire and intention and works with us to turn our dreams into reality. Sitting around and wishing is one thing, but going out and making things happen is something else altogether!

ThoughtCo: All About Lammas (Lughnasadh)

These are the dog days of summer, the gardens are full of goodies, the fields are full of grain, and the harvest is approaching. Take a moment to relax in the heat, and reflect on the upcoming abundance of the fall months. At Lammas, sometimes called Lughnasadh, it’s time to begin reaping what we have sown throughout the past few months, and recognize that the bright summer days will soon come to an end.

Today’s Deity: Lugh, Master of Skills

Similar to the Roman god Mercury, Lugh was known as a god of both skill and the distribution of talent. There are countless inscriptions and statues dedicated to Lugh, and Julius Caesar himself commented on this god’s importance to the Celtic people. Although he was not a war god in the same sense as the Roman Mars, Lugh was considered a warrior because to the Celts, skill on the battlefield was a highly valued ability. In Ireland, which was never invaded by Roman troops, Lugh is called sam ildanach, meaning he was skilled in many arts simultaneously.

Daily Good: Befriending Ourselves: An Invitation to Love

Is self-improvement sometimes a disguised version of self-aggression? If the focus is always on how I might be “better” in the future, it can be hard to extend toward myself a hand of friendship and compassion. I miss out on the present miracle of who I am NOW. Maybe moving from a perspective of improvement toward one of healing actually begins with loving my current messiness. { read more } http://www.dailygood.org/story/2350/befriending-ourselves-an-invitation-to-love-kristi-nelson/

EarthSky News: See the constellation Scutum the Shield

Tonight, look for one of the most beautiful celestial sights visible at this time of year. Look in a dark country sky, far away from the the glare of city lights. You’ll find a hazy pathway stretched across the sky. This band is the starlit trail of our own Milky Way galaxy. If you see it, you can also find the very small constellation called Scutum the Shield

Inner Journey:

REAWAKEN YOUR CURIOSITY

“What a distressing contrast there is between the radiant intelligence of the child and the feeble mentality of the average adult.”
— Sigmund Freud

Why is this so?

Young children possess what Zen calls ‘beginner’s mind.’ They are awed and fascinated with the wonder of the world, open to discovering and experiencing new things. Anything is possible. Life is a great adventure.

For almost all of us, the systems that ‘educate’ us to be adults stifle our natural joy and curiosity. We lose touch with our innate appreciation of life. We forget how to dream.

The blessing is that with attention, patience and love, we can reawaken our sense of wonder. We can again dance with life.

“The mind WILL be free, or it will be dead.”
— Grace Llewellyn

Intuition

“You must train your intuition – you must trust the small voice inside you which tells you exactly what to say, what to decide.”
-Ingrid Bergman

Jewel sings a song called “Intuition.” It’s gotten me thinking about intuition, instinct, hunches… it’s all the same thing. The lyrics in the song say: “Follow your heart, your intuition, it will lead you in the right direction.” Great advice- but like much great advice, do we always take it? I think we try to second guess ourselves too much. When Ingrid Bergman says we must train our intuition, I think she really means that we must train ourselves to listen to that voice, and hear what it has to say.

Daily Tarot: Justice

Take everything and everyone a little bit more seriously today, without getting grim about it. People may bring you requests or problems that they think are shaking up their world, and you should offer at least a token respect for their worries and needs. None of this puts any pressure on you, unless you get emotionally involved. Remember, you have neither the power nor responsibility to fix it all.
