Rais’d are the dripping oars-
Silent the boat: the lake,
Lovely and soft as a dream,
Swims in the sheen of the moon.
-Matthew Arnold (1822-88)

ThoughtCo: All About Lammas (Lughnasadh)

These are the dog days of summer, the gardens are full of goodies, the fields are full of grain, and the harvest is approaching. Take a moment to relax in the heat, and reflect on the upcoming abundance of the fall months. At Lammas, sometimes called Lughnasadh, it’s time to begin reaping what we have sown throughout the past few months, and recognize that the bright summer days will soon come to an end.

Today’s Deity: Lugh, Master of Skills

Similar to the Roman god Mercury, Lugh was known as a god of both skill and the distribution of talent. There are countless inscriptions and statues dedicated to Lugh, and Julius Caesar himself commented on this god’s importance to the Celtic people. Although he was not a war god in the same sense as the Roman Mars, Lugh was considered a warrior because to the Celts, skill on the battlefield was a highly valued ability. In Ireland, which was never invaded by Roman troops, Lugh is called sam ildanach, meaning he was skilled in many arts simultaneously.

MBG: Weekly Horoscope: How To Get Through The Last Days Of Mercury Retro

Here’s what the AstroTwins have to say about three important astrological moments coming our way this week—including the end of Mercury retrograde (!).
On Monday, a twice-a-year transit could signal grassroots action.

Daily Good: Befriending Ourselves: An Invitation to Love

Is self-improvement sometimes a disguised version of self-aggression? If the focus is always on how I might be “better” in the future, it can be hard to extend toward myself a hand of friendship and compassion. I miss out on the present miracle of who I am NOW. Maybe moving from a perspective of improvement toward one of healing actually begins with loving my current messiness. { read more }

Be The Change

Get a hand mirror and spend a few moments appreciatively gazing into the eyes of your own miraculous being. Then spend the rest of the day in the company of your own friendship.

Elephant Journal: 5 Truths of a Pissed-Off Empath.

Awakenings are hard, awful even.
I wish I was one of those people who’d had an amazing experience, who wanted to tell everyone about their “come to Jesus” moment and how amazing it was.
Mine was not…and apparently, I’m still not there yet.

MNN: 10 remarkable caterpillars and what they become

It’s hard not to be captivated by the fluttery fragile beauty of butterflies and moths. But the caterpillars they start from can be equally captivating.
As you’ll see, there are many different types of caterpillars. In fact, the variety of colors, shapes, camouflage markings and predator-repelling armor is truly astounding.

EarthSky News: See the constellation Scutum the Shield

Tonight, look for one of the most beautiful celestial sights visible at this time of year. Look in a dark country sky, far away from the the glare of city lights. You’ll find a hazy pathway stretched across the sky. This band is the starlit trail of our own Milky Way galaxy. If you see it, you can also find the very small constellation called Scutum the Shield

Patheos-Pagan: Lammas Loaves and Respite

It’s almost Lammas/Lughnasadh (I use both interchangeably, do you?), and I am a bit giddy with excitement. Last year, I wrote of Lammas and harvesting my dreams. Hard to believe, it’s a year later, and I look back on that celebration with fondness.

Inner Journey:

“What a distressing contrast there is between the radiant intelligence of the child and the feeble mentality of the average adult.”
— Sigmund Freud

Why is this so?

Young children possess what Zen calls ‘beginner’s mind.’ They are awed and fascinated with the wonder of the world, open to discovering and experiencing new things. Anything is possible. Life is a great adventure.

For almost all of us, the systems that ‘educate’ us to be adults stifle our natural joy and curiosity. We lose touch with our innate appreciation of life. We forget how to dream.

The blessing is that with attention, patience and love, we can reawaken our sense of wonder. We can again dance with life.

“The mind WILL be free, or it will be dead.”
— Grace Llewellyn

A Note from the Universe

It’s the final moments that define a journey and the first ones that make it possible.

Both, you have total control over.

Whoop, whoop!

Today’s Recipe: Mediterranean Chicken Kabobs

These chicken kabobs are delicious and really easy to put together. You can make these on your grill outside, inside your oven, or on a griddle. All result in a wonderfully aromatic and tender meal. I like to serve it with a lemon tahini sauce and thick Persian flatbread. I’ve added my lemon tahini sauce recipe here with the kabobs.

Daily Wisdom
July 29, 2019

“You must train your intuition – you must trust the small voice inside you which tells you exactly what to say, what to decide.”
-Ingrid Bergman

Jewel sings a song called “Intuition.” It’s gotten me thinking about intuition, instinct, hunches… it’s all the same thing. The lyrics in the song say: “Follow your heart, your intuition, it will lead you in the right direction.” Great advice- but like much great advice, do we always take it? I think we try to second guess ourselves too much. When Ingrid Bergman says we must train our intuition, I think she really means that we must train ourselves to listen to that voice, and hear what it has to say.

Daily Tarot: Justice

Take everything and everyone a little bit more seriously today, without getting grim about it. People may bring you requests or problems that they think are shaking up their world, and you should offer at least a token respect for their worries and needs. None of this puts any pressure on you, unless you get emotionally involved. Remember, you have neither the power nor responsibility to fix it all.
