The celebration of Lughnasadh marks the first harvest celebration of the season. The strength of the sun is in decline and the days are getting shorter. It is the time of the “sacrificial god”. He knows his time is short and offers himself and his blood to ensure that the harvest will be successful. Embrace the early fruits of your labor and harvest from both your inner and outer gardens. Rejoice in what you have grown and created!

Exemplore: Seven Crystals for Lammas (author: Claire)
Lammas is also known as Lughnasadh and is the first of the three pagan harvest festivals. It is considered a time of giving thanks as the sun’s strength begins to wane and the spring crops become ready for harvest. There is a feeling of abundance at Lammas, but it is important to remember the long winter that is to come and that many of the crops must be prepared and stored in preparation.
In English folklore, John Barleycorn is a character who represents the crop of barley harvested each autumn. Equally as important, he symbolizes the wonderful drinks which can be made from barley—beer and whiskey—and their effects.
When Lammastide rolls around, the fields are full and fertile. Crops are abundant, and the late summer harvest is ripe for the picking. This is the time when the first grains are threshed, apples are plump in the trees, and gardens are overflowing with summer bounty.
Pagan Library: The Coming of Lugh Iarwain
Lugh the Il-Dana came to the Tara
Lugh Samildanach came to the palace of the Tutha De
Lugh, master of all arts, came to Eireann
The gate keeper did not recognize Lugh
The gate keeper asked the Il-Dana his name
The gate keeper asked Lugh Samildanach what skill he possessed.
“‘Lughnassad’ means ‘the funeral games of Lugh’, referring to Lugh, the Irish sun god. However, the funeral is not his own, but the funeral games he hosts in honor of his foster-mother Tailte. For that reason, the traditional Tailtean craft fairs and Tailtean marriages (which last for a year and a day) are celebrated at this time. As autumn begins, the Sun God enters his old age, but is not yet dead. It is also a celebration of the first harvest. The Christian religion adopted this theme and called it ‘Lammas’, meaning ‘loaf-mass’, a time when newly baked loaves of bread are placed on the altar. An alternative date around August 5 (Old Lammas), when the sun reaches 15 degrees Leo, is sometimes employed by Covens.”

MBG: 7 Late Summer Rituals For Celebrating Abundance & Transformation
In the northern hemisphere, August is a month that many people spend cooling off on the beach or barbecuing in the backyard. Yet, we forget that the month historically signaled the start of the harvest season and the time to collect the first crops of grain, wheat, and oats.
________________________ Patheos-Pagan: Making Bread at Lammas
Lammas (often used interchangeably with Lughnasadh to refer to August 1st) holds a special place in my heart. The heat might make summer my least favorite season, but Lammas marks the slow decline into fall. And, being a lover of baking bread, how could I not like this Sabbat?
“How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.”
— Annie Dillard
We lose the power of the moment because we’re so rarely in it. We’re reliving the past or speculating about the future. We continue to believe that tomorrow’s the day when I’ll be more capable, more wealthy, more fit and more loving. Meanwhile, I’m just putting in time, dreaming of better things but not making any concrete move to realize them.
When you find yourself thinking of the future or the past, bring your awareness into the present moment. Really experience how you feel and what’s happening around you, without judgment. If we can treasure each moment, our lives will be rich, no matter what we have accomplished.
“Lost, yesterday, somewhere between sunrise and sunset, two golden hours, each set with sixty diamond minutes. No reward is offered for they are gone forever.”

Your Irish: Festival of Lughnasadh
The Celtic festival of Lughnasadh (from the old Gaelic Lugh the pagan God and nasad meaning assembly), Lughnasa or in old English, Lammas ( meaning loaf mass) is celebrated around the 1st August or roughly halfway between the summer solstice and the autumn equinox. It celebrates the first harvest of the year and the passing of summer into autumn.

Raise the Horns: Why No One Loves Lammas (& Lughnasadh)
It’s Lammas time, and I see lots of posts on social media about bread and harvests, but there’s always a bit of a disconnect for many of us. I might try to bake some bread for the holiday, and my garden is showing signs of life;there are tomatoes on the vine, sunflowers approaching six feet tall, and I’ve got a few small pumpkins the size of at least softballs.
Embrace now as a joyful day. At the start, look in the mirror and see the joy that’s already in your eyes. Work with contentment, spend quality time with friends and family, and share your love of life with every stranger you meet. You don’t have to be overbearing and surprise people with your happiness. What you truly feel will shine on its own. The little things may bring you the most joy.

A Note from the Universe
Whoops… I did it again. Took a little nap, had a few dreams, and worlds were born. Planets spun and cooled. Continents rose and fell. And civilizations clashed and united.
Actually, it’s quite good fun. But I also dreamed I was you. And in that dream, for a spell, I didn’t remember I was also the Universe.
It was frightful, actually. Just about scared me to death until, as you, I slowly remembered who I was. And in those waking moments, it was as if the earth shook, the seas danced, and the skies rejoiced almost as much as myself. As if they were waking up, too. It was the most beautiful, sublime, intoxicating rush of pure joy I think I’ve ever known.
How I wish I could tell you more. But like a farmer eager for the new crop, any rush to harvest would spoil the yield. Besides, words would utterly fail me.
Fidgeting madly,
The Universe

Style
“The style is the man himself.”
-George-Louis de Buffon (1707-1788)
This quote is talking about writing style. He is saying that the style in which a person writes is how his personality shines through. Look at how many times, and how many ways, we have heard the same spiritual lessons. There are so many good spiritual teachers out there, with books and videos and classes and ministries. And yet they’re really essentially all saying the same thing when it comes down to it! But we each respond differently because we have different styles of our own, and different styles resonate with us in different ways. Said with a certain style we hear the messages better, understand them more, relate to them more personally.

A Note from the Universe
It isn’t easy at first, but one of the greatest gifts you could ever give someone who makes your heart soar is the freedom to learn their own lessons, at their own pace.
Even trickier is discovering that one of the greatest gifts you could ever give someone who gets on your nerves is the freedom to learn their own lessons, at their own pace.
And perhaps most challenging of all is understanding that one of the greatest gifts you could ever give yourself is the realization that your heart soaring and your nerves fraying have never been dependent upon other people and their lessons.

Helping
“We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow men.”
-Herman Melville
When we help one person, we’re helping all people – and we’re helping ourselves. Because of our intricate connection with each other – we feel it on some deep primordial level. And it works the other way, too. When one of us is hurt, all of us are hurt. Because of technology and advances in communications, we can understand better how something like a war, way on the other side of the world affects each one of us. We see the war; we feel the emotions. People we love are far away from us, and our hearts are with them, and their families. We can help them with our thoughts and prayers.

Just as we can be unconscious of our wounds, we can also be unconscious of our strengths. If you are really drawn to the positive qualities in another person, you are being invited to own those same qualities in yourself.

ThoughtCo: Lammas Craft Projects
Looking for some fun and inexpensive ways to decorate your home for Lammas? Make an easy grapevine pentacle, apple candleholders, a cornhusk chain and Lammas incense as a way to celebrate the season.
The least known of the eight major Pagan holy days is Lammas, celebrated on the first of August. (The other primary holy days are the Summer and Winter Solstices, the Spring and Fall Equinoxes, and the Cross Quarter Days of Imbolc and Beltane.)
Lammas, or “Loaf Mass,” is the Feast of the First Harvest, the Feast of Bread. This Holy Day honors the women who created agriculture and bred the crops we cultivate, especially the grains, or corn. In the British Isles, celebrants make corn dollies from the last of the newly-harvested wheat.
If you love soaking your stresses away in a hot, fragrant tub, then you’ll want to save this recipe for lavender bath salts. It’s quick and simple to make, for yourself or as a gift.
Raven & Crone: Lammas, Lughnasadh Rituals, Spells and Activities
For the Lammas ritual contained here you will need your regular altar supplies. It is appropriate to have corn husks, corn dollies, wheat and grain decorating the altar and the quarters. In addition you will need:
I stood before my altar at Lammastide
And asked the Lord and Lady to be my guides.
“Please show to me a vision that I may see
What sacrifice is worthy to give to Thee.”
“Once upon a Lammas Night
When corn rigs are bonny,
Beneath the Moon’s unclouded light,
I held awhile to Annie…
The time went by with careless heed
Between the late and early,
With small persuasion she agreed
To see me through the barley…
Corn rigs and barley rigs,
Corn rigs are bonny!
I’ll not forget that happy night
Among the rigs with Annie!”

After all, the new moon happens on August 1, 2019, at 3:12 UTC; translate UTC to your time. At that instant of new moon, according to astronomers’ definitions, the old moon becomes a young moon again, as the moon transitions out of the morning sky and into evening sky.
________________________ Patheos-Pagan: 5 Simple Ways to Bring Lammas to Our Modern Lives
Lammas. Probably one of the most overlooked of Pagan and Heathen holidays – and it’s not the only option this time of year. We don’t know when it was first celebrated, but it certainly goes as far back as early medieval England. There, it was a celebration of the wheat harvest. It was also the time that tenants would present their rent payments to the landlord – usually in the form of wheat.
“Once, when we were discussing a world peace project with my teacher, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, somebody asked him, ‘Where is all the money going to come from?’ And he replied without hesitation, ‘From wherever it is atthe moment.'”
— Deepak Chopra
How can you open to greater trust that you’ll always have what you need?
Fear, doubt, anxiety and disbelief all serve to repel abundance from us. Faith, love and gratitude for the gifts of our lives keep energy and abundance flowing. The more we trust in our well being, the more it will be realized.
“Manifestation is an act of trust. It is the soul pouring itself out into its world, like a fisherman casting a net to gather in the fish he seeks; with each cast properly made, we will bring what we need to us, but firstwe must hurl ourselves into the depths without knowing just what lies beneath us.”

Intuition
“Instinct is the nose of the mind.”
-Madame De Girardin
I love this! The nose doesn’t “think” – it just senses- our brain then translates what scent is coming through. Our instinct is the same way- sometimes we don’t know why we know something, but we just do. So rather than try to translate or decipher this information in the brain, it might do us well to just go with it every once in awhile, and find out just where our intuition leads us.
