EarthSky News: Geminid meteors to peak this weekend

The annual Geminid meteor shower is expected to reach its peak this weekend – though under the glaring light of the almost-full waning gibbous moon. The peak morning is likely to be Saturday, December 14, 2019 – or, possibly, Sunday, December 15, 2019. But the morning of December 13 might offer some meteors, too. These colorful meteors tend to be bright, so you might see as many as 20 or so Perseids per hour, despite the moonlight. On a dark night, free of moonlight, you can easily spot 50 or more meteors per hour.

APPRECIATION

“You can never get to peace and inner security without first acknowledging all of the good things in your life. If you’re forever wanting and longing for more without first appreciating things the way they are, you’llstay in discord.”
— Doc Childre and Howard Martin

Develop an attitude of gratitude. We discover a sense of wholeness as we appreciate both the small and big things in our lives. And it really helps to remember to appreciate ourselves. Appreciation is more than just acceptance — it’s respect and admiration. Let go of criticism and self-abuse.

“Generally, appreciation means some blend of thankfulness, admiration, approval, and gratitude. In the financial world, something that ‘appreciates’ grows in value. With the power tool of appreciation, you get the benefit of both perspectives: as you learn to be consistently thankful and approving, your life will grow in value.”

Conversation

“Must we always talk for victory, and never once for truth, for comfort, and joy?”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)

Conversation is a way for us to connect with people. And yet, how often do we feel like we need to impress someone, or demonstrate somehow that we have important opinions? If we could just drop that, and think more about connecting through Truth, about sharing ourselves rather than our “stuff” – then some meaningful conversation can take place. And we can experience that comfort and joy that leads to real friendship.

If we take time daily to experience physical stillness and to direct our attention inside, we can begin to find the peace, love, will and wisdom that exist as our essence.

Sincerity

“Sincerity is the foundation of the spiritual life.”

Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965)

A foundation is something upon which everything else is built. So it’s a good idea to look at the sincerity with which we live our lives. It seems to me that sincerity is a little bit more than honesty. It’s not just the words we say, but the feeling that we put behind those words. There are no “loopholes” with sincerity – it’s not just what we say, but what we mean.

Inner Journey: GO FOR WHAT YOU LOVE

“Follow your bliss.”

It’s hard for some of us to believe that the world is served when we seek our own happiness. We’ve been taught that this is selfish.

If we stop to reflect on how we are in the world when we are happy, we can see how this serves. We have more vitality. We’re more loving and generous to others when our own needs are met.

What activities bring you the greatest joy? Your unique gift to the world will be found in those pastimes you love the most.

How can you live your joy each day?

“Spiritual growth is not made in reaction against, for all striving against imposed restrictions is imaginary. Spiritual growth is accomplished by inclination toward. We grow like the sunflower, following the light.”

Today’s Recipe:  Cheesy Chorizo and Apple Scramble

I made this up today when I realized I had next to nothing in the kitchen. Last week, the grocery store was giving away free tubes of chorizo. I rarely say no to free things, even when it’s something I don’t utilize too much. I always find chorizo to be a bit overpowering in spice and saltiness, so I thought evening it out with some chopped apple would aid it. It was perfect! The sweetness of the apple was a great balance for this breakfast treat. I added little squares of the last tortilla I had in the fridge to make it come together like a taco. It was so very good!

Destiny

“I am not afraid… I was born to do this.”

-Joan of Arc (1429)

“All I was doing was trying to get home from work.”

-Rosa Parks, on refusing to move to the back of the bus, televised interview (1985)

I had to put these two quotes together because both of these two women showed such courage. They both saw the “big picture” and understood their role in it. Although these events happened centuries apart, one could say that they were destined. Things could not have continued the way that they were going, and each of these women had a part in changing things. They could have backed down or shied away from it – but instead they chose to step up and be where they were, where they felt they were “supposed” to be.

Slow Down and Chill: Cat’s Angel Message for August 30, 2019

August Theme: Positive focus and creative solutions help to draw both prosperity and abundance this month.  You are a powerful creator and all that you need is within your grasp!

Life is as easy or as hard as you think it is. – Jonathan Lockwood Huie

830: Today is a good time for a little meditation and self-care and the Universe is asking you to hold a little light and simply be at ease. Enjoy nature sounds or soothing music and fill your mind with your favorite energizing, soothing or healing color. These are different for everyone, personally, I like watery blue-green or sunny yellow-orange, so whatever color speaks to you today just enjoy it! Personal quiet time plays an essential role in your emotional and spiritual well being. Too often we forget or put off doing something just for ourselves so a bubble bath for the soul is always a good thing to indulge in!

Archangel Raphael promotes and supports healing on all levels. He helps to open our spiritual eyes which is essential when we meditate or during quiet time. He teaches us that it is through our spiritual journey that we can heal our selves and our lives and therefore regain our self-confidence and faith. He helps to clear the way so that we can achieve balance by removing the blocks associated with giving and receiving by promoting flexibility in thinking and attitude. The Ascended Master Melchizedek helps us heal through color, so pay attention to the colors that draw you or feel relevant. And the Roman Goddess Venus teaches us to truly appreciate ourselves. She says “You must put loving self-care first. By doing so you become confidently empowered and fully connected to your own divine nature.”

Our Sacred Stones for today include:

  •  Rose Quartz today to bring inner peace and harmony. The energy of this stone is very soothing and can help calm frazzled nerves. It helps to promote the softer, move loving view that we need to embrace gratitude, it soothes and clears the emotions and fills us with loving compassion. It works with the heart chakra to gently wash away negative feelings that we harbor against ourselves and lifts the emotions to promote joy and peace. It opens our heart and shows us the love in relationships and situations, which helps us find a balancing point Use this gentle stone to shower yourself with loving care and to send healing to those little places that most need it.
  •  Satin Spar Selenite makes it a great meditation stone. It opens the crown chakra to help us receive universal guidance as it calms the emotions and promotes inner peace.
  • White Topaz to help increase our connection to the Divine. This gemstone brings feelings of happiness and spiritual awareness.

Bright blessings for a magickal day!

I invite you to share my work as long as no changes are made and to check out my websites:

IT’S A MATTER OF BALANCE.

“My soul is the bridge between spirit and body and, as such, is a uniter of opposites. …Without soul at center, I would either transcend into spirit or become mired in matter.”
— Marion Woodman

Ram Dass talks of how his first spiritual goal was to be rid of his physical existence. He came to understand, though, that our spirituality lies in bringing higher consciousness to our world of form. When we can do so, we can delight in all aspects of creation.

Soul exists in the balance of spirit and matter. For a soulful life, we pay attention to both, seeing spiritual qualities in material forms. As our awareness grows, we begin to use consciousness to influence and create form. It’s through form that our spiritexpresses.

Independence

“What is independence? Freedom from all laws or bonds except those of one’s own being, control’d by the universal ones.”
-Walt Whitman (1819-1892)

It shows great spiritual maturity to be independent, to know that universal laws prevail. There’s a self-referral that goes on with true independence. We answer to ourselves. We don’t need the written out, voted and agreed on laws to guide our behavior- we know the right thing to do, and we do it. It doesn’t need to be written in a book, it’s written in our hearts.

INTUIT AND DO IT

“If doubt is challenging you and you do not act, doubts will grow. Challenge the doubts with action and you will grow. Doubt and action are incompatible.”
— John Kanary

To reap the greatest benefits from intuition, we need ACTION. Be in motion. Act as if your highest expectations have already happened. Be in front of more opportunities and people. Let go of any blocks or attachments. Create mental space and physical space. Plan your work and work your plan.

Miracles rarely happen by doing nothing. Most miracles happen through other people.

What actions can you take that will move you towards your goals?

“Never forget that life can only be nobly inspired and rightly lived if you take it bravely and gallantly, as a splendid adventure in which you are setting out into an unknown country, to meet many a joy, to find many a comrade, to win and lose many a battle.”

Meditation

“You are used to listening to the buzz of the world, but now is the time to develop the inner ear that listens to the inner world. It is time to have a foot in each world, and it can be done.”
-Saint Bartholomew

It’s all about balance. Rather than getting inundated by the buzz of the world, we can tune in to the silence, turn on that higher frequency and experience what really matters. And then the beauty of meditation is that we bring that experience of stillness back into our activity, and find that life is just so much easier and more fulfilling. We are better able to feel the joy that is always there.

At Litha, the summer solstice, the sun is at its highest point in the sky. Many ancient cultures marked this date as significant, and the concept of sun worship is one nearly as old as mankind itself. In societies that were primarily agricultural, and depended on the sun for life and sustenance, it is no surprise that the sun became deified. While many people today might take the day to grill out, go to the beach, or work on their tans, for our ancestors the summer solstice was a time of great spiritual import.

Give yourself free time

“What is it that makes all of us end each day with the sense that we have not lived our time, but have been lived, used by what we do?”
— Jacob Needleman

How can you free up more time for yourself?

All of the great masters counsel that we need time daily for solitude. And if our journey in life is to become more aware of who we are, then surely we need some free time each day to explore our inner landscapes and uncover our passions.

What activities can you cut out of your life to give you more growing room?

“Life is made up of moments, small pieces of glittering mica in a long, stretch of gray cement. It would be wonderful if they came to us unsummoned, but particularly in lives as busy as the ones most of us lead now, thatwon’t happen. We have to teach ourselves how to make room for them, to love them, and to live, really live.”

The summer solstice has long been a time when cultures celebrated the lengthening year. It is on this day, sometimes called Litha, that there is more daylight than any other time; a direct counterpoint to the darkness of Yule. No matter where you live, or what you call it, chances are you can connect to a culture that honored a sun deity around this time of year. Here are just a few of the gods and goddesses from around the world that are connected with the summer solstice.

MBG: Happy Solstice! 5 Rituals To Ring In The Longest Day Of The Year

The summer solstice is a celebration of the longest day of the year, and it marks the height of the waxing season: a time when nature is blooming. Summer is synonymous with love, romance, and joy. Even the month of June was named after the goddess Juno, whose domain was love.

Daily Good: Island of Plenty

Eva and her family live an isolated life on the remote island of Stra Dmun, in the middle of the North Atlantic Sea, with the occasional helicopter visit their only connection to the outside world. While they are geographically isolated, Eva states that she never feels lonely. Eight generations of her family have lived on this island, with children seeing first hand the full cycle of life all around them. Summer and winter are both enjoyable to Eva, who feels rich because she gets to be a caretaker of the natural life here. She rejoices in the many small good moments that make up her days.

Elephant Journal: A Powerful Ritual to Celebrate the Sacred Summer Solstice.

Celebrating the solstice can be deep, sacred, and generate connection.
My true understanding, love, and appreciation for rituals started during my time spent living in the Andes mountains of Ecuador with a shaman and his family.

Their entire house was infused with natural light. Large windows without screens lined the exterior walls, and there were skylights across the ceiling of the wide hallway and in all the bedrooms.

MNN: 7 things to know about the summer solstice

One of the best things about summer are the extra hours of daylight, and the summer solstice is the ultimate day in that regard.
Although summer is just getting started, the days will start to get shorter from here on out. The next thing you know, you’ll be trading in your sunblock and shorts for scarves and hand warmers. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Here’s a look at some interesting facts about the unofficial first day of summer

EarthSky News: Happy solstice, everyone!

If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere, the June solstice is your signal to celebrate summer. If you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, winter starts at this solstice. This 2019 June solstice takes place on June 21 at 15:54 UTC; translate UTC to your time. In North America and U.S. time zones, that’s June 21 at 12:54 p.m. ADT, 11:54 a.m. EDT, 10:54 a.m. CDT, 9:54 a.m. MDT, 8:54 a.m. PDT, 7:54 a.m. AKDT (Alaskan Daylight Time) and 5:54 a.m. HAST (Hawaiian-Aleutian Standard Time). At the instant of this June 2019 solstice, it’s sunrise for the Hawaiian Islands, and sunset in the Middle East and Africa. It’s noon in South America and midnight in eastern Asia. The solstice happens at the same instant for all of us, everywhere on Earth; only our clocks and calendars are different.

Inner Journey:

CONNECT WITH THE LIFE FORCE

“The spirit down here in man and the spirit up there in the sun, in reality are only one spirit, and there is no other one.”
— The Upanishads

We regard our lives as made up of an infinite number of separate bits and pieces. That is how our senses perceive our universe.

But science has now affirmed what the sages always knew. The life force is the foundation of all, unseen and untouched though it may be. It flows through everyone and everything. It is impossible to exist separate and apart from the source of all creation.

“Everything you see has its roots in the unseen world. The forms may change, yet the essence remains the same. Every wonderful sight will vanish; every sweet word will fade, But do not be disheartened, The source theycome from is eternal, growing, Branching out, giving new life and new joy. Why do you weep? The source is within you And this whole world is springing up from it.”

Summer is here, and the weather is showing it. Our gardens are growing in full force with an abundance of mint. We have Orange-Mint, Mojito-Mint, Peppermint, and Spearmint and a couple of other varieties I think adopted our yard. I find myself wondering what to do with this abundance of mint http://www.themagickkitchen.com/summer-solstice-strawberry-mint-sun-tea/

Comfort

“I simply cannot understand the passion that some people have for making themselves thoroughly uncomfortable and then boasting about it afterwards.”
-Patricia Moyes, 1961

This passion seems to be particularly prevalent today – you can see it on “Survivor” and “Fear Factor” and shows like that. So what’s the spiritual message here? I guess we could look at it several different ways – but let’s choose one: When we challenge ourselves, and break outside of our comfort zone, we discover things about ourselves and reap rewards!
