ThoughtCo: Magical Metals

Study Paganism and magical practice for any length of time, and at some point, you’re going to hear about correspondences. Often we discuss correspondences, which are tangible things associated with non-tangible aspects, in terms of herbs, crystals, even planets. Oddly, there’s occasionally a tendency to overlook one of the most useful sets of magical correspondences: metals.

Elephant Journal: The Art of Perception: Adjusting your View of the World—& Within.

On this particular night, it’s hard to swallow the swirl of emotional soup that comes from turning 28 years old, it’s still hot.
While 27 was the best year of my life, a touch of sadness and fear arises from within. Fear from the unknown certainty of the future, and sadness for the waning years of my youth.

EarthSky News: Orion the Hunter is easy to spot

Tonight – or any winter evening – look for the constellation Orion the Hunter. It’s probably the easiest to pick out of all the constellations in the Northern Hemisphere winter sky (Southern Hemisphere summer sky). It’s identifiable by Orion’s Belt, three medium-bright stars in a short, straight row at the mid-section of the Hunter.

Patheos-Pagan: Am I Really a Pagan?

This is a question I ask myself often. When it comes to my main practice, the Otherfaith, it can be fairly argued either way. It is a polytheistic tradition, and it grew out of my experiences with the Pagan and polytheist communities.

Inner Journey:

TIME TO STOP SEEKING?

“If there are so many seekers, why are there so few finders?”
— Eckhart Tolle

Perhaps we’ve misunderstood the whole concept of a spiritual journey. The term ‘seeker’ means we are looking for something we believe we do not have now. It places all hope on the future because as a seeker, we haven’t yet found our salvation.

Tolle encourages us to experience the truth of who we are by being present right now. If we do that, we don’t have to seek anything. We already have everything and can relax and rejoice in the power of being.

“There is surely nothing other than the single purpose of the present moment. A man’s whole life is a succession of moment after moment. If one fully understands the present moment, there will be nothing else to do, and nothing else to pursue.”

Flowers

“Earth laughs in flowers.”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)

Flowers are an expression of joy. It seems like a miracle that the earth can produce such a variety of species, so colorful, vibrant and full of life. Is it any wonder that we’ve made such a tradition of giving flowers in courtship? Sometimes flowers say what words cannot.

Let’s talk about empathy, which, according to a recent NPR story, “The End of Empathy” (April 15, 2019, Hanna Rosin), is seemingly declining in younger generations.

Associate professor Sara Konrath from Indiana University has been tracking a trend, or a critical shift, whereby younger generations do not feel it’s their responsibility to “see the world from someone else’s perspective.”

Inner Journey:

THE 4 D’S OF SPIRITUAL GROWTH

“Promise Yourself … to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. …To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.”
— Drawn from the Optimist Creed of the Optimist International Club

Reflect on this pathway for meaningful growth:

DISCIPLINE – To create change in our lives, we need to consistently focus on what we want.

DETACHMENT – Practice the art of detached observation. Let go of automatic defenses and patterns.

DISCERNMENT – Seek to discern the lower from the higher. What is self-serving and what is soul-inspired? Discernment carries no judgment. There are no goods and bads. Remain as a detached witness.

DHARMA “This is an East Indian word meaning “living your unique purpose.” How do you find meaning and fulfillment in ways that are natural to you? How do you best serve and contribute to the world?

“If you wish to travel far and fast, travel light. Take off all your envies, jealousies, unforgiveness, selfishness, and fears.”

Today’s Recipe: DIY Tea Astringent

Astringents are used to firm and tone the skin. They constrict the pores and create a protective layer of firm tissue to fight against natural elements. However, some astringents can be harsh due to their alcohol content, thus, drying the skin. So why not create your own astringent at home? Today’s recipe uses non-drying ingredients — witch hazel, lemon juice and, don’t be surprised – tea!

Effort

“Satisfaction lies in the effort, not in the attainment. Full effort is full victory.”

-Mohandas K. Gandhi (1869-1948)

Full effort is mindfulness. It’s being present in the moment, concentrating on the task at hand and not on the results. When we’re in that space where we’re putting in effort, doing our best, we lose track of time and experience the now. That’s a victory!
