Exemplore: Seven Crystals for Lammas (author: Claire)

Lammas is also known as Lughnasadh and is the first of the three pagan harvest festivals. It is considered a time of giving thanks as the sun’s strength begins to wane and the spring crops become ready for harvest. There is a feeling of abundance at Lammas, but it is important to remember the long winter that is to come and that many of the crops must be prepared and stored in preparation.

ThoughtCo: Deities of the Fields

When Lammastide rolls around, the fields are full and fertile. Crops are abundant, and the late summer harvest is ripe for the picking. This is the time when the first grains are threshed, apples are plump in the trees, and gardens are overflowing with summer bounty.

“‘Lughnassad’ means ‘the funeral games of Lugh’, referring to Lugh, the Irish sun god. However, the funeral is not his own, but the funeral games he hosts in honor of his foster-mother Tailte. For that reason, the traditional Tailtean craft fairs and Tailtean marriages (which last for a year and a day) are celebrated at this time. As autumn begins, the Sun God enters his old age, but is not yet dead. It is also a celebration of the first harvest. The Christian religion adopted this theme and called it ‘Lammas’, meaning ‘loaf-mass’, a time when newly baked loaves of bread are placed on the altar. An alternative date around August 5 (Old Lammas), when the sun reaches 15 degrees Leo, is sometimes employed by Covens.”

MBG: 7 Late Summer Rituals For Celebrating Abundance & Transformation

Patheos-Pagan: Making Bread at Lammas

Lammas (often used interchangeably with Lughnasadh to refer to August 1st) holds a special place in my heart. The heat might make summer my least favorite season, but Lammas marks the slow decline into fall. And, being a lover of baking bread, how could I not like this Sabbat?

Inner Journey:

LIVE NOW

“How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.”
— Annie Dillard

We lose the power of the moment because we’re so rarely in it. We’re reliving the past or speculating about the future. We continue to believe that tomorrow’s the day when I’ll be more capable, more wealthy, more fit and more loving. Meanwhile, I’m just putting in time, dreaming of better things but not making any concrete move to realize them.

When you find yourself thinking of the future or the past, bring your awareness into the present moment. Really experience how you feel and what’s happening around you, without judgment. If we can treasure each moment, our lives will be rich, no matter what we have accomplished.

“Lost, yesterday, somewhere between sunrise and sunset, two golden hours, each set with sixty diamond minutes. No reward is offered for they are gone forever.”
— Horace Mann

“If, before going to bed every night, you will tear a page from the calendar, and remark, ‘there goes another day of my life, never to return,’ you will become time conscious.”
— A. B. Zu Tavern

Guardian of the East, I pray for your indulgence.
Hear me now as I request your aid in the cycle of life.
As your winds blow through fields of ripened grain,
Carry loosened seeds upon your back
That they may fall amidst the soil
That is our Mother Earth.”

Your Irish: Festival of Lughnasadh

The Celtic festival of Lughnasadh (from the old Gaelic Lugh the pagan God and nasad meaning assembly), Lughnasa or in old English, Lammas ( meaning loaf mass) is celebrated around the 1st August or roughly halfway between the summer solstice and the autumn equinox. It celebrates the first harvest of the year and the passing of summer into autumn.

It’s Lammas time, and I see lots of posts on social media about bread and harvests, but there’s always a bit of a disconnect for many of us. I might try to bake some bread for the holiday, and my garden is showing signs of life;there are tomatoes on the vine, sunflowers approaching six feet tall, and I’ve got a few small pumpkins the size of at least softballs.

The Tetraktys: How to Let Go of Things You Can’t Control and Enjoy Yourself

Recently, I’ve been writing a lot about anxiety. There’s a reason for it: it seems to be the leading cause of disability among my peers. The key to fighting anxiety is what the title suggests: letting go of things you can’t control. Sadly, it’s often easier said than done, so that’s why I will try to give a few hints on what you can do to be able to let go more easily so that anxiety stops being an impediment to your life.

The magical properties ascribed crystal balls may be nothing more than the stuff of legend, but we’re going to go ahead and call astronomer Juan Carlos Muñoz-Mateos a wizard anyways.

Inner Journey:

A NEW LOOK AT PROBLEMS

“The problem is not that there are problems. The problem is expecting otherwise and thinking that having problems is a problem.”
— Theodore Rubin

Our lives really begin to change when we learn to shift our perspective on ‘problems.’

From a spiritual perspective, problems offer our best path to growth. Like it or not, pain gets our attention. Discomfort also challenges the ego’s perception that it is in complete control of life. This opens the door for soul’s guidance.

If we want to be rid of the problem, we need to shift from denial and resistance to accept that this situation is present. We need to be willing to truly feel our experience to allow the energy of emotions to move through.

Finally, we need to explore what belief is giving rise to our distress. When we realize the belief is faulty, our shift in perspective resolves the problem. The solution always lies within us.

“No one can go back and make a brand new start. Anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.”
— Source Unknown

A Note from the Universe

Every desired change must happen in thought first. This, of course, is the “hook” to living in time and space

Anyone can think happy thoughts when they’re happy, wealthy thoughts when they’re wealthy, healthy thoughts when they’re healthy. It takes someone highly unusual to imagine things differently than how they now see them; not that it’s hard to do, but it can seem so pointless and ineffective that most won’t ever bother.

You crafted the stage you’re now on so that you’d be pushed on to discovering your power, with dreams worth pursuing and the passion to care. Ultimately learning that success comes fastest when you see through life’s illusions, to that which gives them rise: your thoughts, beliefs, and expectations.

This is what you most need to know. There haven’t been any accidents, you haven’t made any mistakes, and the perfection of everything now happening in the world and in your life, will one day boggle your mind.

Close your eyes and visualize, every single day –

The Universe

Thoughts

“The game of life is the game of boomerangs. Our thoughts, deeds and words return to us sooner or later, with astounding accuracy.” -Florence Scovel Shinn

We’ve heard it time and time again, in a million different ways: we reap what we sow. When we plant apple seeds, we get apples. When we plant broccoli seeds, we get broccoli. It’s the law of nature and we all understand it! Now we need to take it to the level where we understand that when we plant seeds of encouragement, that’s what we receive in return. When we spread happiness, we get happiness back. When we give love, we get love. There’s no mystery to it, that’s just the way it is!
