OPEN YOUR HANDS

“More than any other part of the body, our hands reveal our inner state.”
— Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov

Today, be aware of how you hold your hands when you’re not actively doing something with them.

With the stress of our daily lives, many of us find our hands typically clenched in fists. This is proof of the tension we hold in our bodies. And ponder this: how can we receive the abundance of life if our hands are not open to receive it?

When you become aware that your hands are closed tight, stretch your fingers and spread them wide in the shape of a starfish. Deep breathing will also help you relax into the moment.

“What is always speaking silently is the body.”

Our longings are a unique manifestation of the universe’s longings. In listening to the depths of life, within our lives and within every life, we will hear the longings of the One that are deeper than the fears that divide us.

  • John Philip Newell –

Sacred Earth, Sacred Soul

“We know things in the core of our being that we have not necessarily been taught. And some of this deep knowing may actually be at odds with what our culture or religion or nation has tried to teach us. This book is about reawakening to what we know in the depths of our being, that the earth is sacred, and that this sacredness is at the heart of every human being and life-form. To awaken again to this deep knowing is to be transformed in the ways we choose to live and relate and act.” John Philip Newell is a modern-day Celtic bard and spiritual teacher in the prophetic tradition who communicates across the boundaries of religion and race, following in the footsteps of other “wandering” teachers from the Celtic diaspora scattered across the centuries. Inner Journey:

JOURNEY HOME

“Everything seeks its source.”
— a universal principle

Our spiritual journey unfolds through 2 stages.

THE PATH OF PERSONALITY – We arise from the one source of all, to be born as individuals in a world of form. In this physical world, we experience separation and limitation. This is a time of immersion in a world of effects, form, ego, distortion, illusion and pain.
THE PATH OF SOUL – When we have experienced enough pain, we find our way back home to our spiritual source. We let go of the illusion of separation to embrace unity and wholeness. We work with cause instead of effects.
Paradoxically, it’s only with a strong and healthy personality that we become capable of expressing soul. WHERE ARE YOU ON YOUR PATH? Are you struggling to do more and have more? Are you aware of your soul challenging you to open to the bigger picture of life?

“Two people have been living in you all your life. One is the ego, garrulous, demanding, hysterical, calculating; the other is the hidden spiritual being, whose still voice of wisdom you have only rarely heard or attended to – you have uncovered in yourself your own wise guide.”
— Sogyal Rinpoche

How open are you to new perspectives?

Only when we’re open can we really hear what’s being said or really see what’s happening or really experience the moment.

Openness demands that we be willing to move to places we’ve never been before. It asks us to continually challenge the foundations of our belief systems so we can test out new ideas. And to do that, we need to accept insecurity.

Inner Journey: FINDING CONTENTMENT

“When the sun rises, I go to work. When the sun goes down, I take my rest. I dig the well from which I drink. I farm the soil which yields my food. I share creation. Kings can do no more.”
— Chinese proverb

Do you sense the peace and contentment that can come from an appreciation of one’s place in the cosmos?

How do we get there with the complexities and pressures of our current lifestyles? Perhaps it’s a matter of becoming aware of what we truly have as opposed to what our egos believe we need. If we look closely, we may find that our ego ‘needs’ are just desires.

When you find yourself longing for something, stop and ask, “What is missing from my life? Is it a need? What are the essential qualities of what I seek? How can I experience that now?”

“If we have not quiet in our minds, outward comfort will do no more for us than a golden slipper on a gouty foot.”

“Between cause and its so-called effect there falls, as it were, a cosmic shadow and out of this shadow man can accomplish a transfiguration of his own, participating, however minutely, in an act of universal creation, and something effective that no cause all alone and purely out of itself could have produced.”

We are a created and we create. We have access to all the wisdom and power of the Universe. Our potential for creativity is unlimited. Opportunities abound! Are we awake to this? You’ll need determination and perseverance to accomplish anything of substance today. Pick something (or accept something that has been assigned to you) and stick with it until day’s end. If you apply concentrated effort, you should be able to make a huge headway. Even if not, your single-minded approach will attract allies for tomorrow. You have more influence and authority than you suspect. Use them wisely.

Daily Dream Meaning: Egyptian

1. Dreaming of living in ancient Egypt might actually be a past-life memory. Be sure to write the dream down immediately upon awakening, as an issue from that past life could be coming to the surface of your unconscious mind. Something in the dream probably relates to a concern in the present, and the dream may be giving you important insights.
2. Egypt is a land of mystery, and therefore if you dream of Egypt or things Egyptian there is probably some mystery in your life that you’d like to have resolved. Look to other symbols in the dream to discern what it is and what you should do about it.
3. Egypt is a land where a lot of secrets are being dug out of the ground. What secrets are you hiding? Or are others around you keeping things from you that you really need to know? If the other symbols in the dream support this idea, honest communication with those involved is definitely called for.

Consistency
“True consistency, that of the prudent and the wise, is to act in conformity with circumstances.”

-John C. Calhoun (1782-1850)

This is interesting to think about – so many times we look at consistency as a virtue. And it is in some situations. But when we look at the “big picture” we see how things change, and so why wouldn’t our minds change with the times? For example, we might start out with an allegiance to a particular political party, only to change our minds and vote another way come election time. Is that being inconsistent? I don’t think so. The consistency comes with being true to ourselves.

Today’s Deity: Corn Gods & Goddesses

First grown in Mexico about 5,000 years ago, corn soon became the most important food crop in Central and North America. Corn Gods and Goddesses. The majority of corn deities are female and associated with fertility. They include the Cherokee goddess Selu; Yellow Woman and the Corn Mother goddess Iyatiku of the Keresan people of the American Southwest; and Chicomecoatl, the goddess of maize who was worshiped by the Aztecs of Mexico. Inner Journey:

FORGIVENESS BRINGS JOY

“The greatest evil that can befall man is that he should come to think ill of himself.”
— Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Do you feel worthy of having joy? Do you feel you deserve it?

The first step to activating our inner joy is to eliminate the blocks to it. We can start by truly forgiving ourselves and all others. Forgiveness calls for a shift in our perception. It is easier to forgive ourselves and others when we really understand that each of us has always done the very best we knew to do at that time.

“If we don’t forgive ourselves for our mistakes, and others for the wounds they have inflicted upon us, we end up crippled with guilt. And the soul cannot grow under a blanket of guilt, because guilt is isolating, while growth is a gradual process of reconnection to ourselves, to other people, and to a larger whole.”

Throughout history, the naming of full moons has been an honored tradition, often signifying the connection of the moon to the seasons.
As we know, April showers bring May flowers, so it is no wonder that the May full moon is aptly called a “Full Flower Moon.” The Full Flower Moon was seen as a symbol of increased fertility signifying to the ancient tribes that now was a safe time to bear children and plant crops as the weather was warming.

Inner Journey:

THE FIRST STEP TO FORGIVENESS

“To get to forgiveness, we first have to work through the painful experiences that require it.”
— Christiane Northrup

To forgive, we do not have to say that whatever happened was okay. In fact, before we can forgive, we need to allow ourselves to really feel the pain of the experience. If we don’t fully acknowledge our hurts, we will continue to carry them subconsciously and they will drain our energy.

To forgive, we need to decide that we won’t allow the memories of the event to poison us any longer. We’re ready to heal this wound from the past and open to a fresh new beginning.

The blessing is that when we’re really ready to experience our pain and we open to it, it usually fades away. By honouring our pain, we release it.

“We must let ourselves feel all the painful destruction we want to forgive rather than swallow it in denial. If we do not face it, we cannot choose to forgive it.”
— Kenneth McNoll

A Note from the Universe

Gotcha we heard your, “Thank you!!!!”s.

And your, “Whooohoooo!!!!”s and “Holy Cow!!!”s.

If you keep celebrating like this, before anything even happens, we’re going to have to reinforce time and space so that it doesn’t split when all the king’s horses and all the king’s men march in to party with their nearest of kin… (code for: huge party because great things are happening in one’s life).

Today’s Deity: Greek Goddess Iris

Iris was known as the goddess of the rainbow and another messenger for the gods in Greek mythology.
She is depicted as a beautiful golden goddess, with wings (for flight), sandals, a staff, and a tunic. There is often much art, such as vases and murals, shown of her because she is worshiped and very beautiful. She was also seen briefly in Homer’s Legacies.

“The body says what words cannot.”

-Martha Graham, 1985
We express ourselves with our bodies. Our body “language” tells things about us that we cannot hide. Our emotions are broadcast to the world through our posture and our physicality. Our bodies are our instruments – and we can play them with dance and athletics and joy!

Dear Ones,

There are undercurrents within your societies different from outward appearances. So it is you become upset when someone does this or that even though their actions – unknown to you – are fulfilling your dreams.

You are in the midst of crumbling world structures as you wait for some knight to make everything right – in your mind. That knight is not going to appear for you are the creator of your life.

ThoughtCo: Purple Dead Nettle

Like many of the herbs that we can use in magic, purple dead nettle is, for all intents and purposes, a weed. It will take over a spring garden in no time at all, spreading with wild abandon through your yard. So why not take advantage of its folklore and magic, and use it in your workings? It’s a handy little herb to harvest.

MBG: Dealing With Anxiety? Here Are 4 Simple Steps To Clear Your Mind

Growing up, we learn math and reading, history and geography, but nobody teaches us about the logic of the mind and how to navigate the internal geography of our mental landscape. A significant aspect of anxiety arises when we don’t understand how to work with the normal and necessary thoughts that dart and dash through the mind every minute of every day. The most painful and alarming of these thoughts, the ones that can cascade into anxiety and panic and cause untold mental suffering, are what we call intrusive thoughts.

Elephant Journal: A Full Moon Meditation for Releasing our Troubles.

In metaphysical circles it is widely held that the energy of the new moon supports us in sowing new seeds, or intentions, for what we wish to create in our lives.
And the energy around the full moon supports us in letting go of what no longer serves us.
Of course, we can set such intentions at any time. However, working with the energies of the moon can help to super-charge those intentions

MNN: New panda park in China will be much bigger than Yellowstone

Long the iconic face of endangered species, the giant panda has made significant progress in recent years. In the 1980s, only about 1,216 pandas were left in the wild, but the most recent census in 2015 counted 1,864 adult bears, prompting the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to downgrade the species’ threat level on the Red List from endangered to threatened in 2016.

EarthSky News: Moon and Spica on May 15 and 16

These next few nights – May 15 and 16, 2019 – the bright waxing gibbous moon passes to the north of Spica, the brightest star in the constellation Virgo the Maiden. Spica serves as a prime example of a 1st-magnitude star, so this star will probably be bright enough to overcome the moonlit glare

3 Pagans & A Cat: Green Witchcraft – Embracing Nature’s Rhythm

Well, I live in modest hope that sunshine and warmer temperatures are in my near future. The sun made a grand appearance after several weeks of rain and chilly temperatures which even by Michigan standards are unusual by this point in May. Oh, we’ve had a smattering of sunshine pushing through the clouds. Enough for me to begin harvesting dandelions and newly discovered common blue violets in my back yard, anyway.

Inner Journey:

PRACTICE DETACHMENT

As our consciousness rises, our perspective becomes more and more impersonal. What does this mean?

It means we are increasingly able to view our lives and the rest of the world with detachment. This does not mean we are cold and uncaring. Rather, we are self- contained. We have well-defined boundaries and we are able to think and act objectively, clearly and responsibly.

When we have learned detachment, we do not get hooked into the thoughts and feelings of others. We are not easily upset or manipulated. We may feel compassion for others but this does not cloud our ability to choose how we think, feel and behave. We also do not need others to behave in any particular way.

“Until we take how we see ourselves (and how we see others) into account, we will be unable to understand how others see and feel about themselves and their world. Unaware, we will project our intentions on their behavior and call ourselves objective.”
— Stephen Covey

Lore for April

April, the fourth month of the current Gregorian calendar and the second month of Spring’s rule, derives its name from Aprillis, the Latin name for the ancient Roman love goddess Aphrodite. Other reference sources give aperite, the Latin word meaning “to open,” as the origination of the month’s name.
The traditional birthstone amulet of April is the diamond, and the daisy and the sweet pea are the month’s traditional flowers.

April is shared by the astrological signs of Aries the Ram and Taurus the Bull, and is sacred to the following Pagan deities:
Aphrodite, Artemis, Astarte, Erzulie, Terra, Venus, and Ying-Hua.

MNN: What to see in the night sky in April
There’s plenty to see, from a Falcon Heavy rocket to a meteor shower.

It’s hard to believe, but we’ve almost reached that time of the year when stargazers don’t necessarily need to grab hats, gloves and other cold weather accessories. We like to think of April as the gateway to those evenings in the summer when all that’s required is a blanket and a cold beverage

EarthSky News: Acrux, brightest star in Southern Cross

Bluish Acrux, otherwise known as Alpha Crucis, is the brightest star in the constellation Crux the Southern Cross. It is the 13th brightest star in all the sky. Because it’s located far to the south of the sky’s equator, this star can’t be seen from much of North America. Observers north of central Florida or south Texas are out of luck. Observers in Hawaii sometimes tell us they’ve spotted it. You have to be in the Southern Hemisphere to see Crux in all its glory. For us on the northern half of Earth’s globe, its southerly location is part of its magic and mystery. Follow the links below to learn more:

Inner Journey:

You are complete

“Everything you need you already have. You are complete right now, you are a whole, total person, not an apprentice person on the way to someplace else.”
— Wayne Dyer

Close your eyes and imagine that everything you are is enough. You don’t need to be better or different — you’re great just as you are. Can you experience the peace and contentment that owning that perspective brings?

Moving into such total acceptance does not mean that we stop growing. When we can accept who we are now, we open the doors to our own inspiration to do and be even more!

“Wherever you are is always the right place. There is never a need to fix anything, to hitch up the bootstraps of the soul and start at some higher place. Start right where you are.”

Transformation

“The sacred call is transformative. It is an invitation to our souls, a mysterious voice reverberating within, a tug on our hearts that can neither be ignored nor denied. It contains, by definition, the purest message and promise of essential freedom. It touches us at the center of our awareness. When such a call occurs and we hear it – really hear it – our shift to higher consciousness is assured.”

-David A. Cooper, 1994

In this passage, David Cooper writes about the shofar, the ram’s horn sounded in synagogue services during the Ten Days of Penitence. But there are a lot of different ways that ‘the sacred call’ may be expressed. The fact that we are pursuing our spiritual growth, that we are allowing ourselves to be more of who we really are, shows that we have heard that call! We know that life has meaning, and we are transforming our own lives to reflect that.
