Spirit Library: Apparent Darkness (a message from Kate Spreckley)

With the Eclipse season and Mercury Retrograde now behind us, July is set to be an energetically charged month where we can gain some traction and the opportunity to move forward. However, as we enter this new month, we are still in rest mode and integrating the energies and the changes of the past month. What we must remember is that positive growth and transformation often involve a descent into ‘darkness’ before a new cycle begins.

If you are not willing, that’s okay. Don’t judge yourself. Just be aware that you are choosing to stay where you are.

Food
“Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are.”

-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (1755-1826)

The more popular version of this saying is: “You are what you eat.” That’s easy to understand in terms of food. We know what’s good for our bodies. But think of what we eat in terms of what we consume in the media, and the marketplace, too. Are we buying and using products that are good for ourselves and the environment? Are we reading, watching shows, and expressing ourselves in ways that are beneficial to humanity? Food for thought!

The Earth Treasure Vase Healing Project

As I was walking up the highest mountains in the world, I realized that I had a chance to actually ask a question of the old wise man in the cave. As I was walking, I contemplated what I should ask him that would be of benefit, not just for me, but for all of us because most people dont have the opportunity to ask a question of a 106-year-old Lama in a cave. Inner Journey:

PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR EMOTIONS

“Emotions are the next frontier to be understood and conquered. To manage our emotions is not to drug them or suppress them, but to understand them so that we can intelligently direct our emotional energies and intentions…. It’s time for human beings to grow up emotionally, to mature into emotionally managed and responsible citizens. No magic pill will do it.”
— Doc Childre

Many of us believe that we need to keep a tight lid on our emotions. We fear that if we ever allow these emotions to be expressed, they will do serious damage.

But if we summon up the courage to truly feel our emotions, we discover that they don’t last. The monster in the closet turns out to be a pussycat. In fact, if we are willing to experience our emotions completely, without resistance of any kind, they burn themselves out in only a few minutes.

The only thing that keeps emotions alive within you over long periods is your unwillingness to acknowledge them.

“By starving emotions we become humorless, rigid and stereotyped; by repressing them we become literal, reformatory and holier-than-thou; encouraged, they perfume life; discouraged, they poison it.”
— Joseph Collins

The great web of life – this amazing connection that binds us together. These days when we hear “web” we think of the worldwide web. And this is a great analogy for how we can really move beyond space and time to experience our connection with one another. I had a service question recently, and ended up speaking with a technician in India! We had a great conversation. He solved my problem and I showed him my whatsyourdosha.com website. SPEAK FOR YOURSELF

“An open ear is the only believable sign of an open heart.”
— David Augsburger

We can easily get into trouble in relationships when we assume that we know what someone else is thinking or feeling. Parents, in particular, can be quick to judge what’s going on in their children.

Rather than assuming we know someone else’s experience, we could shift our perceptions into questions. Instead of saying, ‘I know you’re hurting,’ we could ask, ‘Are you feeling hurt?’ This allows us to connect with the other with no risk of misunderstandings.

Daily Tarot: The Magician

It may be hard to be serious and stick to those dull but crucial tasks that keep the day running smoothly. Be systematic, cheerful, and don’t let it show if you feel undervalued or underappreciated. Save your sharp wit and cleverness for another time and place. Time spent with younger people or children can lift your spirits and keep things in perspective for you.
