Today’s Message: The Inner Voice

129: Today the Universe is reminding us of the importance of trusting in ourselves and the guidance that we receive from within. Our intuition is a powerful ally. However, we sometimes have the tendency to ignore it in favor of outside influences or by allowing our ego getting in the way. Remember that the Universe is always creating something new to take the place of what we have lost. Set ego aside and embrace trust in yourselves and in your own abilities. By learning to trust that inner voice we gain self-confidence, inner peace, and the firm foundation we need to step into our own power. As confidence is gained so does the power of our inner wisdom. Use your natural talents and gifts to help create a new self-reliant you. One who has the confidence to sift through the external noise around them and choose the direction best suited for their personal growth.

Today’s Spirit Helpers include:

Archangel Zadkiel teaches us that true compassion and healing lies in our ability to forgive ourselves and others. This is essential to the letting go and the letting it be process as it allows our hearts and minds to make room and teaches us to just breathe and embrace compassion which in turn makes room for new growth. This is one of the best self-healing practices and gifts that we can give ourselves.

The Ascended Master Solomon helps us to take what we are given and make the most of it. He teaches us how to do things more efficiently as he guides us through difficult situations. Focus and efficiency help us in our quest for personal evolution and help create the necessary stepping stones we need to move ahead.

The Greek Goddess Artemis helps us to hone our intuitive skills so that we get the information we need without the unnecessary backwash. She teaches us how to trust in ourselves and honor our own wisdom. By following our inner guidance system we are setting ourselves on the path of authenticity and personal truth. Allow yourself to be a “huntress” like Artemis and track down your inner power. She tells us,  “All the skills and knowledge you need for success lives within you. Your inner wisdom is a powerful thing and you know in your heart when something is good and right.”

Today’s Sacred Stones include:

The gentle energy of Blue Lace Agate helps our overall communication skills by teaching us to freely express thoughts and feelings in a peaceful manner. it also allows us to find balance and emotional calm during times of stress. This stone is associated with the Archangel Zadkiel.

Iolite, also known as “Poor Man’s Amethyst” it is a stone of vision that assists our intuition and aids us in setting things in motion by staying true to yourself and your path while freeing you from the expectations of others. It helps us to live in the moment making it easier to snag the blessings given to us. It is also a soothing stone that calms emotions during times of change.

Pietersite (Tempest Stone) helps us to work through beliefs and conditioning imposed upon us by others. It opens our intuitive connection and creates a link to a loving level of guidance. It also helps us see the truth and strengthen our will while increasing our focus on where we really want life to take us. It helps us to rid ourselves of negative energy and replaces it with calm.

Imbolc Correspondences

Imbolc Correspondences

Date: February 2

Names: Imbolc, Imbolg, Oimealg, Brids day

Imbolc is a Greater or White Sabbat

It symbolizes fire and purification, the quickening of the earth, and flows of milk for the young Sun God.

This is a time for initiation, dedication, re-affirmation, and burning the Yule greens.

Colors for Imbolc:

White, yellow, or light blue

Herbs and Incense for Imbolc:

Bay, basil, benzoin, angelica, myrrh, blackberry, celandine, heather, iris, violet

Food and Drink for Imbolc:

Dairy products, raisins, creamy soups, olives, leeks/shallots.

White wine, milk, soy milk, or water

Imbolc is the festival of “When the ewes lactate” and is the mid-point of the dark part of the year. Brigid’s fire that she kindled at Yule is now evident in the pregnancy of the herd animals and the fullness of their udders. It also celebrates the waiting bride of the Sun God.

Farm tools are consecrated at this time of year, home fires are put out, and relit as are the smithy fires, both are blessed.

This is the time to make Brigid’s crosses for yourself and for others as protective charms for the home. Brigid’s snake emerges from the Earth Mothers’ womb to see what the weather will be– if this sounds familiar, it should as this is the origin of Groundhogs Day!

If you made a corn dolly for Lughnasadh, you should make a bride’s bed on the evening of Feb 1st. She should be dressed in white or blue and placed in a basket near the hearth. The Celts would toss nuts into the basket as fertility symbols.

The lighting of a Candle Wheel ( an evergreen wreath that holds candles) is a form of sympathetic magick to lure the sun back to us.

**Note ** As with any ritual using candles please use caution and never leave them unattended.

Inner Journey:

CONSCIOUS COMMUNICATION

“If we want to be compassionate we must be conscious of the words we use. We must both speak and listen from the heart.”
— Marshall B. Rosenberg

Conscious communication requires us to be truly present to what is occurring. When we are unconscious, we both speak to and react to others out of habit. And in the face of what we perceive as someone’s judgment and criticism, we automatically (and unconsciously) defend, withdraw or attack.

To communicate consciously requires attention to two areas:

  1. I need to speak from awareness of what I am perceiving, feeling and needing, and
  2. Through watching and listening, I need to be aware of those same needs in others.

“When we focus on clarifying what is being observed, felt, and needed rather than on diagnosing and judging, we discover the depth of our own compassion.”
— Marshall B. Rosenberg

“Decision is a sharp knife that cuts clean and straight; indecision, a dull one that hacks and tears and leaves ragged edges behind it.”

-Gordon Graham

In a state of indecision we can’t move – we’re stuck, stagnant. Indecision weighs us down. Indecision hurts us by wasting our time, and the time of everyone around us who is affected by the indecision. But decision, even if it’s a tough decision, moves us forward. We are clear and concise and those around us know where we stand so that they can make their own decisions with more knowledge of the overall situation

How do you see yourself as unlovable?

Take a few minutes to write down why you perceive yourself to be unlovable. Look at the list and see if you can identify where those characterizations originated. Can you pinpoint old messages from parents, teachers, and friends that led you to negative conclusions about yourself? Are those messages valid today?

The beliefs we adopt as children usually don’t hold when we view them objectively as adults. Can you let them go? Can you begin to see yourself as a unique expression of life, a genuine gift to the world?

Decisions
“I would sort out all the arguments and see which belonged to fear and which to creativeness. Other things being equal, I would make the decision which had the larger number of creative reasons on its side.”

-Katharine Butler Hathaway

A lot of people know the strategy of making a list of “pros” and “cons” when making a decision – but this helps us to sort things out a little differently, a little more creatively. Fear tends to make us fall into indecision, or no decision. Creativity may involve risk, and change, and it can move us towards action and progress.

Offerings were thrown into the household fires to seek omens from the future. Vesta is similar in many aspects to Brighid, particularly in her position as a goddess of both home/family and of divination.

Daily Good: Prayer for the Earth: An Indigenous Response to these Times

In his lifetime Stan Rushworth, an elder of Cherokee descent who was raised by his grandfather, has seen a river die, animals disappear, and the proliferation of box stores. The devastation of climate change is not new to him – his elders have been telling him about it all of his life. The traditional indigenous wisdom that is needed now is looking at how indigenous populations have managed to survive a 95% population reduction through destruction and genocide. He calls on us all to come back to right relationship, to be sorrowful for what is happening, because without this we have lost our humanity. And yet we cannot stop with the sorrow and tears because “there’s too much work to be done” and we must figure out together how to do that work. { read more }

“Growth takes place in a person by working at a deep inner level in a sustained atmosphere of silence.”

If we take time daily to experience physical stillness and to direct our attention inside, we can begin to find the peace, love, will and wisdom that exist as our essence.

JUDGMENT CREATES

“If you judge people, you have no time to love them.”
— Mother Teresa

We know the power of thoughts to create. Consider, then, the impact of our judgments. When we judge someone critically, those judgments have the power to affect the one being judged, if they are open to our perceptions. This is the case even when we don’t say what we’re thinking.

For example, if I judge someone to be fat, and that individual perceives him or herself to be fat and is sensitive to the opinions of others, my thoughts will reinforce their ‘fat’ experience.

Being aware of the impact of our judgments helps us let go of our tendency to judge.

“There are three kinds of violence: one, through our deeds; two, through our words; and three, through our thoughts. …The root of all violence is in the world of thoughts, and that is why training the mind is so important.”

REMOVE THE FILTERS

“You got to look at things with the eye in your heart, not with the eye in your head.”
— Lame Deer, Medicine Man of the Oglala people

Whenever we’re thinking, our experience is being filtered through our minds. For example, when I say to myself, “What a beautiful sunset!” I am not fully experiencing the sunset because I am involved with the words in my mind.

Explore letting go of the thoughts, the words, and connecting directly with your experiences. Tune in to the silence and the sensations in your body. Be aware of the spaciousness this brings because this is truly living in the present moment.

Being present doesn’t mean that we have to abandon thinking entirely. That’s not feasible, of course. But we can experiment with what it’s like to stop thinking once in a while!

“Only in quiet waters things mirror themselves undistorted. Only in a quiet mind is adequate perception of the world.”

The berries are said to be sacred food of the gods which were jealously guarded and kept away from man. The tree itself has a round, open-top crown and the leaves which turn red in the fall are 4-8 inches in length and oblong with serrated edges along the point. The berries grow in clusters and each berry has a small design that resembles a pentagram on it. It was this pentagram “design” that linked this tree to witchcraft during the 15th and 16th centuries, its reputation became so negative that herbalists stopped using it for fear of being labeled as a witch.

The bark from the Rowan tree is used for tanning and making dye and the berries are edible and make great jams and jellies. The berries are also still used in herbal medicine as a tea for treating diarrhea and they are very high in vitamin C which makes them useful for treating colds.

ROWAN IN MYTH & MAGICK

Rowan is also known as a fairy tree and as such, it is not advisable to cut branches from the tree itself. If you need to cut branches from one you should always leave the Fae a gift of yourself, like hair or fingernail clippings. By using this tree it is said that you will be protected by the Fae themselves. However, fallen branches are the best if you are going to use the wood. Rowan is thought to be one of the sacred druid trees and can be found growing near many of the ancient stone circles and it played a main role in some of their ceremonies.

In popular folklore Rowan trees could be planted next to your home as protection against lightning and to promote good luck while sprigs of Rowan could also be hung over doors in the home to ward off the evil eye or if you wore one, it kept the fairies from kidnapping you. They were even planted in churchyards to watch over the dead and protect the living from ghosts. One very popular European custom that was still being used approximately 100 years ago was the construction of rowan wood crosses. These “ornaments” of protection were made from twigs and tied with red thread. Every home had one over the front door as did seedbeds, barns, and pigsties. They were also given to babies before they could be baptized. At Beltane, the berries were sewn into a circle and hung over windows to prevent lightning strikes or strung into necklaces to ward off the evil eye. The berries were also added to healing charms to help the patient to recover faster.

Rune staves were at one time made from Rowan wood simply because of its protective powers as are wands and dowsing rods.

Use Rowan in spells for blessings, grounding & centering, protection, warding against psychic attack, protection against enchantment.

ROWAN PEOPLE

People born in the Month of Rowan are visionaries and strong humanitarians. They are very passionate in what they believe in and can lean toward being over-zealous at times. New Moon Rowan people (born in the 1st two weeks of the month) are easily frustrated with others who fail to see or help with the greater awareness of issues like racism, bigotry, and general ignorance. Full Moon Rowan People (born in the last 2 weeks of the month) tend to make big promises, which are usually more than they can handle. They come through to an extent but are unable to completely follow through.
