320: Today is Ostara and the Vernal Equinox and the Universe is reminding us about the importance of faith. Sometimes our faith is like the Winter season where things seem barren, empty or even hopeless. We see no results to our prayers or requests. Then all of a sudden things look brighter, more colorful and then we see new beginnings and new growth, just like what happens in Spring. Embrace this new season and see things with a fresh, new perspective. Believe with all your being that even though the results you want are not yet visible the Universe is working behind the scenes, wheels are turning and things are falling into place.
Today’s Spirit Helpers include:
Archangel Ariel helps us to embrace our own divine magick which strengthens our manifestation process. Since she works with the earth and environment (nature angels and sprite too) she can help those unfamiliar with the Sacred Feminine work connect with her.
Today we honor the goddesses of Spring (Brigid (the maiden), Freya, Olwen, Blodewedd, Eostre, Persephone/Kore, or Cordielia.) Spend some time outside today and look for the new growth that symbolizes rebirth and hope.
The Greek goddess Persephone tells us “Don’t be afraid to unearth what lies beneath. By shedding light in dark or weedy places you often find treasures that you had forgotten. These treasures can form the foundations that you need to navigate your path in life.”
The Norse goddess Freya celebrates fertility, spring and new growth. She is also a goddess of fate and extends to us an invitation to use your personal magick to create. She says “Feel the pulse of earth beneath your feet and feel the sun upon your face. Draw upon them to enhance your power as you help the tides of fate to weave your destiny.”
The Welsh Goddess Cordelia helps us to meet life’s changes with courage and excitement. She asks that we be proactive about looking for signs of our inner growth and gain a new perspectives about what lies ahead. She says “Healing can be found in nature and by observing it. Allow the beauty that surrounds you to renew your spirit and fill your soul with pure joy as you nurture the new growth within.”
Today’s Sacred Stones include:
Amber which bestows a positive mental state and helps us find balance, patience and aids in decision making. Use Amber to enhance your earth connection and to promote grounding. It is also a great healing stone (it’s actually tree resin) that helps to remove energetic impurities from the body.
Moss Agate. This gentle stone promotes new beginnings and can help release the blocks that are keeping us from moving forward. It attracts new forms of abundance and teaches us how to channel our energy in new, creative ways. Often referred to as the gardener’s stone Moss Agate helps us connect to nature, the earth, and our own inner garden as well. Carry it with you or wear it during times of new growth
Citrine. This happy and sunny crystal draws abundance and brings our self confidence forward. It promotes the optimistic mindset necessary to activate the manifestation process and nudges us into action. We can also use Citrine to help us sift through information and analyze situations so that we can move forward with positive intent. Citrine also helps us go with the flow and encourages us to explore all options so that we can make the best decisions for our journey.
Blessings for a magickal day! Cat

Ostara is also known as the spring equinox and is a celebration of fertility, rebirth, and renewal. At this point in the wheel of the year, day and night are of equal length and in perfect equilibrium.
“The name Ostara goes back to Jacob Grimm, who, in his Deutsche Mythologie, speculated about an ancient German goddess Ostara, after whom the Easter festival (German: Ostern) could have been named. Grimm’s main source is De temporum ratione by the Venerable Bede. Bede had put forward the thesis that the Anglo-Saxon name for the month of April, Eostur-monath, was named after a goddess Eostre. Ostara is one of the four lesser Wiccan holidays or sabbats of the Wheel of the Year. Ostara is celebrated on the spring equinox, in the Northern hemisphere around March 21 and in the Southern hemisphere around September 23, depending upon the specific timing of the equinox. Among the Wiccan sabbats, it is preceded by Imbolc and followed by Beltane. In the book Eight Sabbats for Witches by Janet and Stewart Farrar, the festival Ostara is characterized by the rejoining of the Mother Goddess and her lover-consort-son, who spent the winter months in death. Other variations include the young God regaining strength in his youth after being born at Yule, and the Goddess returning to her Maiden aspect. Ostara is the virgin Goddess of spring. This holiday concerns the deity’s trip to the underworld, and their struggle to return from the Land of the Dead to Earth. When they accomplish this return, they have a life renewed. It was considered bad luck to wear anything new before Ostara, so the people would work through the winter in secret to make elegant clothes for the Sabbat celebration. The entire community would gather for games, feasting, and religious rituals while showing off their clothing. The modern belief that eggs are delivered by a rabbit known as the Easter Bunny comes from the legend of the Goddess Eostre. So much did a lowly rabbit want to please the Goddess that he laid the sacred eggs in her honor, gaily decorated them, and humbly presented them to her. So pleased was she that she wished all humankind to share in her joy. In honor of her wishes, the rabbit went through the entire world and distributed these little decorated gifts of life”

EarthSky News: Fastest sunsets happen near equinoxes
Here’s a natural phenomenon you might never have imagined. That is, the sun actually rises and sets faster around the time of an equinox. In 2021, the vernal equinox falls on March 20 at 9:37 UTC; translate to your time zone. The fastest sunsets (and sunrises) happen at or near the equinoxes. And the slowest sunsets (and sunrises) happen at or near the solstices.
The Spring Equinox. Ostara. The Rites of Spring. By any name, it is a celebration of those things we wish to grow, bursting forth as the barest promise of more to come; but that isn’t what I want to talk about today.
“For all my good intentions, there are days when things go wrong or I fall into old habits. When things are not going well, when I’m grumpy or mad, I’ll realize that I’ve not been paying attention to my soul and I’ve not been following my best routine.” — Robert Fulghum
How do you need to bring more balance to your life?
Robert Fulghum has shared, “The older I get, the more I realize the importance of exercising the various dimensions of my body, soul, mind and heart. Taken together, these aspects give me a sense of wholeness. I want to be a whole human being rather than one who limps on one leg because I don’t know how to use all of my parts. Intellectual, emotional, and physical activity are not separate entities. Rather, they are dimensions of the same human being.”
“There is an Indian Belief that everyone is in a house of four rooms: A physical, a mental, an emotional and a spiritual. Most of us tend to live in one room most of the time, but unless we go into every room everyday, even if only to keep it aired, we are not complete.” — Rumer Godden

-Mary Virginia Micka, The Cazenovia Journal (1990)
That’s good advice for all of us these days! We’re on the computer so much. When we get a moment’s break, what do we do? If we can just take some time to re-connect with nature, to remember the beauty that surrounds us, we will be so much more natural and relaxed. There is a tree right outside my office window. It looks so calm, and it makes me feel calm to just sit and look out the window for awhile.

These next several evenings – March 18, 19 and 20, 2021 – watch the waning crescent moon as it travels in front of the constellation Taurus the Bull. As the moon goes eastward through the Bull, it’ll pass to the south of the Pleiades star cluster on March 18 (as viewed from North America). Roughly a day later, the moon will then swing in between the ruddy star Aldebaran and the red planet Mars. Aldebaran, which is a bit brighter than Mars, is the brightest star to light up the constellation Taurus.

Trees “I like trees because they seem more resigned to the way they have to live than other things do.”
-Willa Cather, O Pioneers! (1913)
Trees are patient. They are resilient. They don’t try to be something they’re not. They don’t get jealous of faster growing varieties. They bloom where they are planted, and make the best of it. They don’t make any demands. There is a children’s book called “The Giving Tree” which really explains generosity. Freddy got this book from his aunt when he was little and it was always one of his favorites. We can learn a lot from trees

Disrespect comes in many forms but particularly through words and actions. We can be the recipient of disrespect from others as well as ourselves and both are bad. However when we speak negatively about ourselves it stops our growth by blocking our minds. All we see is the negative things that we have stored there. Remember that if we want the respect of others we must first respect ourselves. You are a beautiful soul who is worthy of SO many amazing things!
Celtic Tree Month of Alder or Ffearn (FAIR-n) runs from March 18th to April 14th.
Plant Information:
This tree is a member of the Birch family and is native to the British Isles, Europe and North America. Alders require a great quantity of water and can reach 65 feet or more if left to grow undisturbed. The tree itself grows in a rough cone shape with branches that are evenly spaced down its long trunk, The leaves are roundish and finely toothed and in the spring it produces flowers and catkins. The wood from this sacred tree comes in a number of colors. When an alder is cut down the wood changes from white to reddish-yellow that bears a remarkable resemblance to blood. This caused our ancestors to believe that the tree bled when cut and it was considered unlucky to cut one down. The wood is oily and water resistant and in past times was used for shields, the foundations for houses and is still used today in cabinetry and door making.
In healing alder has been used as a substitute for quinine. It has also been used to treat parasites, inflammation coughs, poison ivy, toothache, sprains and strains. On an interesting side note the inner bark is a great natural pesticide.

In Myth & Magick
The time surrounding the Vernal Equinox is and was important in the wheel of the Celtic year. The alder represents free will and liberty. In some places today it is still a crime to cut down this sacred tree. The person who is dumb enough to cut one down is seen as the cause of any trouble that happens in his neighborhood. The alder tree is also associated with courage and the evolution of spirit. This tree spirit can be called upon for help during disputes, where you need to see clearly to make the right decision or when you simply need to draw and bring forward you own inner strength.
Alder is associated with all four elements ( earth, air, water, fire) and is great for elemental magick. Flutes can be made from the wood and whistles from young alder shoots can be made to summon air elementals.
Alder is a fairy tree and as such is good for fairy magick. The leaves and twigs can be used in charms and talismans for protection. Dyes can be made from the bark, flowers and twigs to dye ritual robes. Red: Bark/ Green: Flowers/ Brown: twigs.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA/freeimages.com
Alder People:
People born in the month of Alder make excellent oracles, they can tell you like it is and manage to do it gently. However, alder people must remember not to abuse their power, and just like the tree itself they tend to mature slowly. Alders are powerful and make steadfast allies, they are trailblazers who set the pace for others to follow. If you are an alder person, just remember to slow down once in awhile and take a good look around you.
As a magickal name Alder works well for people who tend to be secretive and changeable or for those with fire signs. Choosing this name can bring out sensitivity in people who have trouble letting it show.

The world needs you to see how whole and complete you are — now. Can you begin to own your divinity? The world needs you to know who you really are so you can be the mirror for others.
“The sun shines not on us but in us. The rivers flow not past, but through us, thrilling, tingling, vibrating every fiber and cell of the substance of our bodies, making them glide and sing.” — John Muir

Trees “She had so deep a kinship with the trees, so intuitive a sympathy with leaf and flower, that it seemed as if the blood in her veins was not slow-moving human blood, but volatile sap.”
-Mary Webb, Gone to Earth (1917)
Some people have this innate connection with the plant world. I guess those would be the same people who have “green thumbs.” There is a definite communication that goes on between plants and animals, whether we are aware of it or not. We can find peace in nature. We can find ourselves in that peace

Daily Tarot: Justice
You may be dealing with people who feel inferior or weaker than you, so take care to not run over anyone. Equally, they do not have to serve as an excuse for you to go slower or do less than you know is necessary. Be firm but not too firm, determined but not too determined. Get a lot of good work done
