First found in “The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali,” the niyamas are one of the eight limbs of yoga—if you think of yoga as a tree, the niyamas are one of the eight “branches” towards enlightenment and total awareness. There are five niyamas, and they all act as a sort of moral code, as they teach us how we should treat ourselves as yogis to become more self-actualized beings

Daily Dream Meaning: Visitor

1. If the visitor is unknown to the dreamer, then this is a happy portent of new friends and a busy social life. If the visitor is known, good news through a friend should be on the horizon.
2. To dream of visiting someone under ominous circumstances is a warning to beware of those who might spread rumors and gossip about you. But to be a visitor in a happy and well-kept home augurs moving on to bigger and better things.
3. To have someone come to visit you means that someone will be bringing news. Whether or not it’s good news or bad news depends on other symbols in the dream.

Inner Journey:

HARD WORK

“Work should be in order to live. We don’t live in order to work. That shift in awareness is necessary.”
— Matthew Fox

What are your beliefs around work? Do you believe it’s necessary to work hard to earn a living? No pain, no gain? Do you believe women’s work is never done? That play is a waste of time?

While there are merits to the work ethic, over-work takes a serious toll on the quality of our lives. Our ability to contribute to life requires us to have a sense of balance, joy, playfulness, time to stop and smell the flowers.

“Learning to let go of the ways we inadvertently and unconsciously contribute to our own pain is the key to finding radiant physical and emotional health.”
— Ingrid Bacci

“To do great work a man must be very idle as well as very industrious.”
— Samuel Butler

“The true object of all human life is play.”
— G.K. Chesterton

A Note from the Universe

Through you, through you, through you,

The magic works through you. Not beside you. Not around you. Not for you. Not despite you. But through you.

You have to go there. You have to choose your stage. You have to do your dance. Putting yourself in place, to any degree that you can, even if it scares you, even when it’s “hard,” even if it’s just your big toe. Stretch yourself, scoff at the odds, get the ball rolling so that the magic can then come alive and sweep you off your feet with its infinite grace and glory.

You wouldn’t just carry around the seeds for the garden of your dreams in your pocket, all the while asking where your flowers were? Nope, you’d have to brave the elements, you’d have to choose the location, and then you’d have to go there.

Your life is your wand (or hoe)

Meaning
“There is no meaning in life except the meaning man gives his life by the unfolding of his powers, by living productively…”

-Erich Fromm (1900-1980)
Each day we learn and grow, we are unfolding our powers! Doesn’t that sound great? We’re getting better and stronger and more powerful the more that we discover about ourselves. By living productively, by using our time on this planet well, we find meaning in our lives. We are not meant to be a mere observer – we are meant to participate. We are given powers to use, not to let stagnate.

Daily Tarot: The Fool

You’re learning, but you’re just not quite there yet. The Fool signifies inexperience and, of course, a certain amount of foolishness when it comes to love. Even if you’ve been around the block a time or two, there is still plenty for you to learn. Don’t be fearful of what love has in store for you, but keep your eyes open for roadblocks along the way and try not to stumble over them.

REVIEW YOUR CHOICES

“I was part of that strange race of people aptly described as spending their lives doing things they detest to make money they don’t want to buy things they don’t need to impress people they dislike.”
— Emile Henry Gauvreau

Once again, we invite you to look closely at what you are choosing for yourself.

Why are you doing what you are doing? Would you prefer to be or do something different? How can you bring that ‘something different’ into reality?

“You make what seems a simple choice: choose a man or a job or a neighborhood — and what you have chosen is not a man or a job or a neighborhood, but a life.”
— Jessamyn West

Vision

“The idea is to seek a vision that gives you purpose in life and then to implement that vision. The vision by itself is one half, one part, of a process. It implies the necessity of living that vision, otherwise the vision will sink back into itself.”

-Lewis P. Johnson, 1987

I think we all have lots of visions throughout our lives. Some we shrug off, we’re not attached to. Others seem to come to us easily. And then there are those that give us a purpose in life. Those are the ones that are important. Those are the ones that push us to learn and grow. We can’t just let those visions go, we have to do something about them. Those are the visions that are life-changing, world-changing!
