Inner Journey: WHO SETS THE STANDARDS YOU LIVE BY?

“If I get to pick what I want to do, then it’s play… if someone else tells me that I have to do it, then it’s work.”
— Patricia Nourot

Are you continually struggling to accomplish what is expected of you? If so, stop to think for a moment: who holds those expectations?

Perhaps you’re trying to meet the expectations of a parent or a teacher or other authority figures who may be long gone from your life. But many of us toil under the critical eyes of a vague ‘somebody’ who always judges that we’ve never done enough or done things well enough. Who is this phantom judge? And do we need to care about what they think any longer?

We find both our own power and happiness when we begin to set our own standards around what has heart and meaning for us.

“Doubt yourself and you doubt everything you see. Judge yourself and you see judges everywhere. But if you listen to the sound of your own voice, you can rise above doubt and judgment. And you can see forever.”
— Nancy Lopez

Trees
“Every time I meet a tree, if I am truly awake, I stand in awe before it. I listen to its voice, a silent sermon moving me to the depths, touching my heart, and stirring up within my soul a yearning to give my all.”

-Macrina Wiederkehr, A Tree Full of Angels (1988)

I can pretty safely guess that we’ve all seen a tree or two in our time. But can we say we’ve actually met a tree? Trees are incredibly beautiful living beings. We can learn so much from their inherent wisdom. My teacher, Louise Taylor, taught me that spirituality is like the trunk of a tree. From there strong branches can grow, our career, health, relationships and everything else. But if we get caught out on a limb, we become off balance. Our spirituality is our strength, our core.

Where are you not being true to yourself?

All blocks arise when we’re not being authentic, when we’re not being true to ourselves. We know we’re not being authentic when we feel discomfort of any kind.

When our thoughts, feelings and actions align with our essence, we express the qualities of soul. Always trust that your soul knows what’s best for you.

Believe in yourself and act on your ideas. Give yourself permission to do what you want with your life. Take the initiative to set meaningful goals for yourself and achieve them. Begin to tell yourself why you CAN have what you want!

Daily Tarot: The Lovers

The world may seem to be working overtime to baffle or confuse you, but you don’t have to take the bait. If you’re offered something that seems too perfectly tailored to your tastes or desires, it’s OK to be graciously skeptical. You can appear cautious rather than distrustful. Keep things simple today and minimize getting upset by torn or unsettled feelings.

Inner Journey: LET GO OF THE PAST

“Your journey has molded you for your greater good, and it was exactly what it needed to be. Don’t think that you’ve lost time. There is no short-cutting to life. It took each and every situation you have encountered to bring you to the now. And now is right on time.”
— Asha Tyson

No regrets. As we become more aware, we begin to realize that there’s a purpose to everything that happens. This builds our trust, and supports us in being willing to be more open and daring to really experience life as it unfolds.

If we pay attention to what’s happening in each moment, we will discover that life continually brings us opportunities to heal our past wounds. When a painful memory surfaces, we can take the time to feel it fully, give compassion to ourselves and any others and allow the energy to release. As we deal with the past in this way IN THE PRESENT, we free ourselves to more fully connect with life.

Women and Men
“The basic discovery about any people is the discovery of the relationship between its men and women.”

-Pearl S. Buck, 1941

This whole subject has been the basis for many sociological studies. A recent reality TV show had several men live as women for a few weeks, just to see if they could do it, and who get away with it the longest. Of course, it made for many comical moments, but the deeper lesson was that at the end of the exercise these men had a newfound respect for women, particularly the women in their lives. And this is a basic truth that carries over into every area. If we want to know how someone lives, we need to walk a mile in their shoes, or in this case, their high-heels!

Thought For The Day: March 9, 2021 “Bad Moods”

Happy Tuesday,

Today we reflect on how we treat others. Have you noticed that when we feel good about ourselves we treat those around us with more kindness and when we feel bad we often take it out on those same people? Be mindful today to treat others the way we want to be treated . A little kindness goes a long way and is returned in great quantity. Don’t let a bad mood ruin the day.
