Feeling anxious? At odds? Out of sorts? Confused? Then maybe it’s time to step back and be still. Take a deep breath. Ground yourself. Just breathe and focus on your breath. Let yourself be at ease. Let the things that are bothering you just be. Don’t force or struggle. Just let them rest. By clearing the mind we invite perspective and even peace. Just breathe and be refreshed.

Natural Living ideas: How To Grow Luffa & Turn Them Into Sponges
Luffa (sometimes spelt loofah or loofa), otherwise known as a ridge gourd, is a popular fruit to grow in the garden, but often not for food, but for making sponges.
Much of the marketing of luffas, shows the sponge in a seaside setting, surrounded by pretty shells and the like, leading many to believe they’re some kind of “Sponge Bob,” or the remains of an ocean creature, but they’re actually the fibrous flesh of the mature luffa gourd.
As spring arrives, our gardens begin to bud and eventually bloom. For hundreds of years, the plants that we grow have been used in magic. Flowers, in particular, are often connected with a variety of magical uses
The word February has been derived from the word ‘februa’, which translates to purification and cleansing, adapted from the Roman ‘Festival of Purification’, and muses pre-Spring rituals. ‘Februo’ literally means ‘I purify by sacrifice’.

Daily Good: Meaning and the Song of the Soul
“Meaning is what calls from the depths of the soul.
It is the song that sings us into life. Whether we have a meaningful life depends upon whether we can hear this song, this primal music of the sacred. The sacred is not something primarily religious or even spiritual. It is not a quality we need to learn or to develop. It belongs to the primary nature of all that is. When our ancestors knew that everything they could see was sacred, this was not something taught but instinctively known. It was as natural as sunlight, as necessary as breathing. It is a fundamental recognition of the wonder, beauty and divine nature of the world. And from this sense of the sacred, real meaning is born, the meaning that makes our hearts sing with the deepest purpose of being alive.” Llewellyn Vaughn-Lee shares more in this beautiful passage. { read more }

MNN: Get ready for the Great Backyard Bird Count
4-day event is a chance to enjoy nature while helping bird populations.
Valentine’s Day weekend marks the annual Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC), a four-day event that makes “citizen scientists” out of bird watchers and nature lovers across North America. The campaign is part of a broad effort to keep tabs on the continent’s bird populations, using volunteers of all ages and backgrounds to supplement more formal research.
At present, the waxing gibbous moon is bright enough to erase many stars from the blackboard of night. But you’ll likely still see the two bright Gemini “twins” – the stars Castor and Pollux – in the moon’s glare. Another bright star is nearby; it’s Procyon, brightest star in the constellation Canis Minor the Lesser Dog, also known as the Little Dog Star.
This is a post that originally appeared on the 3 Pagans and a Cat website on June 20th, 2018. It was an attempt to put devotion, faith, and the experience of the divine into language. It was an attempt at expressing the numinous. I am no more able to describe the experience it attempts to convey now than I was then. Some things just are. You’ll know them when you feel them.
“Time is life. It is irreversible and irreplaceable. To waste your time is to waste your life, but to master your time is to master your life and make the most of it.”

Refuse to feel USED by life! Make full use of it instead.
To do this, we initially need to take control of the time of our lives. Time management is life management, from the inside out. It’s an INSIDE job. You already have everything you need. You have the power to create a life of meaning, fulfillment and joy.
Your challenge is to find what works for you! Review the literature but make your own decisions. To do this, you’ll need to:
Get to know yourself — your desires and passions, rhythms, styles, challenges, needs and habits.
Be aware that you always have choice. Claim your independence and power to choose what is right for your life, moment by moment.

Courage
“Courage: to bear unflinchingly what heaven sends.”
-Euripides (485?-406 B.C.)
Courage is such a big word when we think about all that it means and all that it represents. There’s the courage it takes to fight for what we believe in. There’s the courage that we find when we need the strength to face adversity. We think of courage as being associated with heroes – and yet we all have the capacity to be courageous. We can all be heroes.

The biggest danger you face today is being aloof and thus fail to see an approaching problem. This can cost you the chance to intercept the difficulty and minimize it, if not avoid it all together. “If we want to be compassionate we must be conscious of the words we use. We must both speak and listen from the heart.”
— Marshall B. Rosenberg
Conscious communication requires us to be truly present to what is occurring. When we are unconscious, we both speak to and react to others out of habit. And in the face of what we perceive as someone’s judgment and criticism, we automatically (and unconsciously) defend, withdraw or attack.
To communicate consciously requires attention to two areas:
1. I need to speak from awareness of what I am perceiving, feeling and needing, and
2. Through watching and listening, I need to be aware of those same needs in others.
“When we focus on clarifying what is being observed, felt, and needed rather than on diagnosing and judging, we discover the depth of our own compassion.”

Courage
“Courage charms us because it indicates that a man loves an idea better than all things in the world, that he is thinking neither of his bed, not his dinner, nor his money, but will venture all to put in act the invisible thought of his mind.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)
Courage is attractive! What made Prince Charming so charming? His courage! The way that he fought dragons and witches and wouldn’t let anything get in his way as he worked towards his goal. His goal was the most important thing to him – and his goal was love. It takes courage to love like that, with such abandon, with such totality. Who wouldn’t be attracted to someone so courageous?

About Cat’s Morning Bits: These daily posts are reblogged from various email newsletters that I receive each day.
Thank you. These two simple words can mean a lot to someone. Every day we do helpful or kind things for others and they do things for us. But do we always express gratitude for kindness shown or are we too wrapped up in other things to acknowledge it? Our quote today reminds us to be mindful of the good things done for us. Even the smallest things can make a difference in our day. The challenge lies in the expression of thanks and a little thank you goes a long way to creating a brighter day!
Imbolc is a time of new growth. Plant your “seed thoughts” and tend them with care and remember that lifes challenges are part of the adventure. So garden as you go and get ready for those positive shifts. Do what you need to do to ensure that your dreams grow towards the light.
Deities: Brigid, Ceres, Demeter, Dagda, Cerridwen, Eros, All virgin goddesses/gods of love and fertility.
Food & Drink: Dairy products, raisins, creamy soups, olives, leeks/shallots. white wine, milk, soy milk or water
Symbols: Ploughs and garden tools, brooms, candles, yellow flowers, Brigids crosses, Bride Dolls.
Imbolc is a Greater or White Sabbat and a cross-quarter day. It symbolizes fire and purification, the quickening of the earth, and flows of milk for the =aby Sun God. This is a time for initiation, dedication, re-affirmation and burning the Yule greens. At one time Imbolc was called “The festival when the ewes lactate” and is the mid-point of the dark part of the year. The fire that she kindled at Yule is now evident in the pregnancy of the herd animals and the fullness of their udders. It also celebrates the waiting bride of the Sun God.
The patroness of this holiday is Brigid. She is associated with the livestock and other domestic creatures and is patron the goddess of blacksmiths and bards. Brigid brings us blessings of inspiration/ creativity, poetry, healing/midwifery, weaving, knowledge/ wisdom, and reflection. This Lady was so popular among the ancient people that the Catholic church made her a saint.
This is a great time to do a personal dedication or re-dedication ceremony and divination work in regards to the prosperity and welfare of your family. You can also make known the things you want to draw into your life and send them out into the universe to begin the manifestation process
Activities for this Sabbat include: Blessings seeds and bulbs for this year’s garden as well as consecrating farm tools. Home fires are put out and relit as are the smithy fires, both are blessed. This is also the time to make Brigid’s crosses for yourself and for others as protective charms for the home. Brigid’s snake emerges from the Earth Mothers womb to see what the weather will be– if this sounds familiar, it should, as this is the origin of Groundhogs Day! If you made a corn dolly for Lughnasadh, you should make a Brides bed the evening of Feb 1st. She should be dressed in white or blue and placed in a basket near the hearth. The Celts would toss nuts into the basket as fertility symbols. Besoms should be consecrated and blessed at this time and you can even start the spring cleaning by “sweeping out the old to make room for the new”. Using your besom, sweep old energy right out the front door. Then place your besom near the entry to your home (straw pointing up).
Brighid of the Mantle,
encompass us,
Lady of the Lambs,
protect us,
Keeper of the Hearth,
kindle us.
Beneath your mantle,
gather us.
Guide our hands in yours,
Your hands upon ours,
Our hands within yours
The Mantle of Brighid about us,
The Memory of Brighid within us,
The Protection of Brighid keeping us
From harm, from ignorance, from
heartlessness.
This day and night,
From dark till light.
(Celtic Prayer to Brighid)

“Candlemas’ is the Christianized name for the holiday, of course. The older Pagan names were Imbolc and Oimelc. ‘Imbolc’ means, literally, ‘in the belly’ (of the Mother). For in the womb of Mother Earth, hidden from our mundane sight but sensed by a keener vision, there are stirrings. The seed that was planted in her womb at the solstice is quickening and the new year grows. ‘Oimelc’ means ‘milk of ewes’, for it is also lambing season. The holiday is also called ‘Brigit’s Day’, in honor of the great Irish Goddess Brigit. At her shrine, the ancient Irish capitol of Kildare, a group of 19 priestesses (no men allowed) kept a perpetual flame burning in her honor. She was considered a goddess of fire, patroness of smithcraft, poetry and healing (especially the healing touch of
midwifery).”

ThoughtCo: Smooring the Fire—A Prayer to Brighid
Alexander Carmichael was a folklorist and author who spent nearly five decades traveling around the highlands of Scotland collecting stories, prayers and songs. His most noteworthy work, the Carmina Gadelica, is an interesting blend of early Pagan tradition mixed with the influences of Christianity. Smooring the Fire is from Carmichael’s Carmina Gadelica, published 1900, and is a Gaelic hymn to Brighid, honoring the tradition of smooring, or dampening, the hearth fire at night, and particularly on the night before Imbolc.
An Tri numh (The sacred Three)
A chumhnadh, (To save,)
A chomhnadh, (To shield,)
A chomraig (To surround)
An tula, (the hearth)
An taighe, (The house,)
An teaghlaich, (The household,)
An oidhche, (This eve,)
An nochd, (This night,)
O! an oidhche, (Oh! this eve,)
An nochd, (This night,)
Agus gach oidhche, (And every night,)
Gach aon oidhche. (Each single night.)
Amen.
At Imbolg, the Maiden aspect of the Goddess might be represented in a great variety of ways — by a simple ear of dried corn, a figure made of grain at Lughnasadh, or straws or wheat braided into an intricate design. One representation of the Goddess is Brigid’s Cross. Although the original design may well have been made from rushes, wheat versions have been recreated for centuries. Make a cross for each room in the house to invite the blessings of the Goddess into them.
